X Series Built for Solo-X

Proline X | X Series Enclosures | Built for the Kicker Solo-X

CNC-engineered Proline X X Series enclosures spec'd to the Thiele-Small parameters of every Kicker Solo-X driver size.

The Kicker Solo-X is one of the most mechanically demanding subwoofers ever built. Long excursion, high power handling, and a motor structure that rewards precision. It does not perform to its potential in a generic box. The Proline X X Series was engineered specifically for that driver.

Every X Series enclosure is CNC-cut from 3/4" Langboard Elite MDF on our ShopSabre routers and tuned to the Thiele-Small parameters of the Kicker Solo-X lineup. Internal volume, port area, and tuning frequency are dialed in by size, not approximated. Construction uses dado and V-groove joinery for joint integrity that resists the internal pressure these drivers generate at sustained high power. The result is an enclosure that lets the driver do exactly what it was designed to do: move serious air with authority.

Available in single, double, and triple configurations for 8", 10", and 12" Solo-X drivers, and single and double configurations for the 15" and 18" variants, the X Series covers the full range of Solo-X builds, from a tight single-driver street setup to a wall-level triple stack.

These are enclosure-only units. You source the driver, we handle the box. Every cut is executed to spec, every joint is precision-machined, and every port is tuned to work with the Solo-X's specific displacement and excursion characteristics.

If you already have Solo-X drivers sitting in a box that's holding them back, this is the upgrade. If you're building from scratch and want the acoustic foundation dialed in from day one, start here.

Why Enclosure Design Matters More With High-Excursion Drivers

Most subwoofers will survive a mediocre box. They will lose output, compress early, and sound loose at high power, but they will play. High-excursion drivers like the Solo-X are less forgiving. The motor and suspension are tuned to operate within a specific acoustic load. Put that driver in a box with the wrong volume or wrong port tuning and you are not just leaving output on the table. You are working against the engineering that makes the driver exceptional.

The Solo-X lineup operates with long xmax ratings and significant cone displacement. That displacement has to go somewhere acoustically. Port area, port length, and internal volume all have to be sized to manage that air movement at the frequencies where the driver is doing its hardest work. Get it wrong and you get port noise, early unloading, or a driver that sounds bloated at low power and harsh at high power. Get it right and you get controlled, pressurized low-frequency output that scales cleanly with power. The X Series gets it right.

CNC-Cut to Spec, Not CNC-Cut to Fit

There is a meaningful difference between a box built on a CNC router and a box engineered for a specific driver. CNC routing is a manufacturing method. It produces consistent cuts and square joints. That matters. But what matters more is what is programmed into the router in the first place.

Every X Series enclosure starts with the Thiele-Small parameters for the corresponding Solo-X driver. Internal net volume is calculated after accounting for port displacement, bracing, and material thickness. Port dimensions are sized to deliver the target tuning frequency without chuffing at sustained high-power output. The ShopSabre CNC routers we build on hold tolerances that manual fabrication cannot match. Every piece fits precisely. Every joint closes cleanly. That consistency is not cosmetic. It directly affects the acoustic integrity of the finished enclosure.

Dado and V-Groove Joinery for Joint Integrity

X Series enclosures are constructed using dado and V-groove joinery, the same construction approach used on our Professional Series competition enclosures. Dado joints create a recessed channel in one panel that the mating panel seats into, providing positive mechanical engagement before the adhesive bond is established. V-groove joinery on outside corners produces tighter exterior closure and a cleaner finished edge than butt joints.

The result is a joint that resists the internal pressure these high-excursion drivers generate at sustained output. Conventional butt-jointed enclosures rely entirely on adhesive shear strength to hold the panels together under load. Dado and V-groove construction adds mechanical interlock to the equation, distributing the load across more contact surface and reducing the risk of joint failure over the long term.

Matching the Right Configuration to Your Application

Single configurations are suited for builds where space is the primary constraint: behind-seat truck installs, trunk builds with limited depth, or systems where a single high-powered driver covers the low-frequency duties. A single Solo-X in a properly tuned enclosure outperforms two drivers in a compromised one.

Double configurations are the most versatile option in the lineup. Two drivers with port tuning calibrated for the combined displacement. Well-suited for dedicated trunk builds, hatchback setups, and competition builds that need output without going to a triple.

Triple configurations (available for 8", 10", and 12" Solo-X drivers) are competition-oriented. Three drivers, maximum cone area, and a ported enclosure tuned to handle the combined excursion load. Wall builds, bandpass stage builds, and maximum-output installs.

3/4" Langboard Elite MDF: The Correct Material, Correctly Executed

Every X Series enclosure is built from 3/4" Langboard Elite MDF, the highest-grade MDF available for enclosure construction. At 48.5 lb/ft³ density and 200 psi internal bond strength, Langboard Elite is dense, consistent, and free of the grain variations and density inconsistencies that cause resonance problems in lower-grade MDF.

Joints are dado and V-groove machined, glued with construction-grade adhesive, and assembled for maximum contact surface. Internal bracing is incorporated where panel size requires it. The finished enclosure is acoustically inert. It does not add color to the output, it does not flex under pressure, and it does not introduce noise. These are bare MDF enclosures ready for carpet, vinyl wrap, or raw installation. No corners are cut on the structure to offset finishing costs.

Terminal Cup and Hardware

Every X Series enclosure ships with a Proline X ABS/carbon fiber terminal cup featuring stainless hardware and copper ring terminals. Dual configurations ship with two terminal cups (one per driver) for individual wiring runs and amplifier matching flexibility. Triple configurations ship with three terminal cups for the same reason. The terminal cup hardware is rated for the high-current connections that Solo-X-level builds require.

Large Format Solo-X: 15" and 18" Drivers, Independently Spec'd

The 15" and 18" X Series enclosures are available in single and double configurations. At these driver sizes the enclosure volume requirements scale significantly. These are not proportionally enlarged versions of the smaller boxes. They are independently spec'd to the Thiele-Small parameters of the 15" and 18" Solo-X variants. Internal volume, port area, and tuning frequency are recalculated from the ground up for each driver size. The result is the same acoustic relationship between driver and enclosure that the smaller configurations deliver, regardless of cone diameter.

Enclosure Only: You Source the Driver, We Handle the Box

The X Series is sold without drivers. Solo-X owners typically already have their drivers, or they are sourcing them through their preferred channel. What they need is the correctly tuned enclosure to make those drivers perform. No loaded option. No bundle. No generic box dressed up with driver-specific marketing.

Every X Series enclosure is spec'd to a specific Solo-X driver size and configuration, built in-house at our Tennessee facility on ShopSabre CNC equipment, and shipped ready to load your driver.

Frequently Asked X Series Solo-X Questions

What's included with an X Series enclosure?

The complete CNC-cut and assembled enclosure built from 3/4" Langboard Elite MDF with dado and V-groove joinery, plus the Proline X ABS/carbon fiber terminal cup with stainless hardware and copper ring terminals. Dual configurations ship with two terminal cups; triple configurations ship with three. The driver is not included; the enclosure is sold as enclosure-only.

Why isn't the driver included?

Solo-X owners typically already have their drivers, or are sourcing them through their preferred channel. Loading drivers we don't need to sell allows us to focus on what we do best: precision enclosure manufacturing for the Solo-X lineup. Every X Series enclosure is spec'd to a specific Solo-X driver size and configuration, built to deliver the acoustic foundation those drivers need to perform.

What's the difference between single, double, and triple configurations?

Single configurations house one Solo-X driver with port tuning calibrated for that single driver's displacement. Double configurations house two drivers with the port tuning recalculated for combined displacement (not just doubled). Triple configurations house three drivers in a competition-oriented build with maximum cone area and port tuning that handles the combined excursion load. Triples are available for the 8", 10", and 12" Solo-X. Singles and doubles are available across all driver sizes including 15" and 18".

How are the enclosures tuned?

Internal volume, port area, port length, and tuning frequency are calculated from the Thiele-Small parameters of the specific Solo-X driver and configuration. We don't scale up a generic box and call it driver-specific. Each X Series SKU is engineered to deliver the target tuning frequency without port chuffing at sustained high-power output.

What construction method is used?

Dado and V-groove joinery, the same construction approach used on our Professional Series competition enclosures. Dado joints create mechanical interlock between panels before the adhesive bond is established. V-groove joinery on outside corners produces tighter exterior closure than butt joints. The result is joint integrity that resists the internal pressure high-excursion drivers like the Solo-X generate at sustained output.

Are these enclosures finished or ready to wrap?

Bare MDF, ready for carpet, vinyl wrap, or raw installation. No surface finishing applied at the factory; the buyer or installer chooses the finish that suits the build environment. Internal surfaces are clean and ready for the driver.

What's the warranty?

2-year warranty on materials and construction. Full coverage on any defect in the MDF, the joinery, or the terminal cup hardware. The warranty does not cover damage from improper installation or driver overload.
