Sealed rather than ported, because that is what this driver wants. Mobile ES is Sony's sound quality line rather than an output line, and its parameters put it in sealed territory. A sealed cabinet gives you the shallower rolloff and tighter transient response the driver was engineered around.

Twenty Ways to Order It

Two carpet choices, plush black or dark gray trunkliner. Five acrylic baffle inserts, black, blue, red, white or none. Bare or loaded. The inserts are laser cut in house and sit proud of the baffle. They are cosmetic rather than acoustic, so pick on appearance and do not expect them to change anything you can hear.

Where This Fits

The Mobile ES line is aimed at people building for accuracy rather than output, which is a smaller group than the SPL crowd but a group that cares more about the enclosure being right. Net volume here comes from the XS-W104ES published Thiele Small parameters rather than a generic 10 inch template, because on a sound quality driver a box sized by cone diameter undoes most of what you paid for.

How These Are Built

Langboard Elite 3/4 inch MDF, CNC cut on ShopSabre routers in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Internally braced, prewired to a Proline X ABS and carbon fiber terminal cup with stainless steel hardware, and shipped with polyfill installed. Performance Optimized enclosures carry a 1 year limited warranty on craftsmanship and materials.

Why sealed rather than ported?

The Mobile ES is a sound quality driver and its parameters suit a sealed alignment. Ported would chase output the driver was not built to win, at the cost of the control that is the reason to choose it.

Does the acrylic insert affect the sound?

No. It is a cosmetic baffle insert cut on our laser. Choose it on appearance.

What is the difference between bare and loaded?

The loaded version arrives with the XS-W104ES mounted, wired and sealed against the baffle. The bare cabinet is for people who already own the driver.

Can you build a dual version?

Yes. Tell us the space you have and we will size a dual cabinet from the driver parameters.

Do I need an amplifier?

Yes. This is a passive enclosure with no amplification built in. For a single subwoofer a monoblock matched to the final impedance is the standard approach.

What is the warranty?

Performance Optimized enclosures carry a 1 year limited warranty on craftsmanship and materials. Micro Series and Professional Series carry 2 years. The Sony driver carries its own manufacturer warranty separately.
