Micro Series Subwoofer Boxes Designed for Compact Spaces
Why a Driver-Specific Compact Enclosure
Most compact and shallow subwoofers ship without a recommended enclosure. The driver works in a sealed box of approximately the right volume, but "approximately" is a problem. Too much internal volume and the driver loses control at higher excursion. Too little and the cone can't move freely. Either way, the result is bass that doesn't perform the way the driver was designed to perform.
The Micro Series solves the problem at the box level. Internal volume, baffle dimensions, and internal bracing are calculated specifically for each driver model the enclosure is built for. The driver's Thiele-Small parameters determine the cabinet, not a one-size-fits-most template. The result is an enclosure that delivers the cleanest, most controlled output the specific driver can produce.
Driver Brands We Build For
The Micro Series currently fits the following compact and shallow driver lines.
Wavtech thinPRO 10 and thinPRO 12: Carried directly. The thinPRO line is purpose-built around shallow-mount constraints, delivering 750W RMS in 2.9 to 3 inch mounting depth. The Micro Series is the right enclosure pairing for thinPRO drivers in single and dual configurations.
JL Audio 10TW3-D4 and 12TW3: Carried directly. The TW3 line is JL Audio's reference shallow-mount sub, the long-standing benchmark for sealed-box shallow performance. The Micro Series is tuned to TW3 parameters specifically.
Alpine RSW10: Carried directly. The RSW line is Alpine's high-output shallow 10 inch driver. The Micro Series enclosure for the RSW is calculated for that driver's specific behavior.
ResoNix GUS 10, GUS 12, and GUS 15: Driver not carried, fitment supported. Audio Intensity does not sell the ResoNix GUS line, but we build enclosures for them. If you own (or plan to buy) a ResoNix GUS driver, the Micro Series enclosure is spec-matched to its parameters. We support the install regardless of where the driver was purchased.
Stack Fabrication Construction
Micro Series cabinets are built using stack fabrication rather than panel-and-joint assembly. Each enclosure is cut as a series of horizontally stacked MDF layers, each layer machined to the internal profile, then glued and clamped into a single solid block with the cavity carved through it. There are no panel joints in the airflow path and no seams along the internal walls.
The structural advantage is significant. A stack-fabricated cabinet is denser and more rigid than equivalent panel-built construction. There are no glue joints under stress when the driver moves air, no panel intersections to vibrate at high excursion, and no adhesive bond integrity to degrade over time. For compact enclosures where every cubic inch of internal volume needs to perform, stack fab eliminates the structural compromises that small panel-built boxes typically suffer from.
Cabinets are built from Langboard Elite MDF (48.5 lb/ft³ density, 200 psi internal bond strength), the highest-grade MDF available for enclosure construction. Each layer is CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers in our Tullahoma, Tennessee facility. Internal dowel reinforcement adds additional rigidity at high-stress points within the stack. The baffle cutout is machined to the specific driver the enclosure is built for, with the mounting surface seated flush against the driver basket.
Mounting Hardware and Wiring
The Micro Series ships with 8/32 threaded inserts pressed into the baffle, ready to accept stainless 8/32 machine screws for driver mounting. The threaded insert system is a meaningful upgrade over wood screws or plain T-nuts. The driver torques securely and consistently, the inserts won't strip out over the life of the install, and the driver can be removed and re-mounted without compromising the baffle.
Each enclosure ships pre-wired with 12 gauge OFC (oxygen-free copper) speaker wire to the terminal cup, ready for the installer to land on the amplifier. The terminal cup is the Proline X ABS/carbon fiber composite cup, used across the Proline X enclosure lineup, designed for clean wire termination at higher gauges than standard spring-clip cups will accept.
Build Inclusions
The Micro Series ships complete with polyfill (sized to the specific enclosure volume) and rubber feet. The polyfill is included because in a sealed alignment with a properly tuned cabinet, polyfill effectively increases the apparent internal volume by reducing standing wave reflections and improving the cabinet's acoustic loading. The rubber feet support down-fire installation orientations where the enclosure sits cone-down on a flat surface (cargo bed, trunk floor, behind-seat shelf).
The cabinet exterior is finished in plush black carpet. Plush black is the only finish available for the Micro Series.
Frequently Asked Micro Series Questions
Which drivers does the Micro Series fit?
The Micro Series currently fits Wavtech thinPRO 10 and thinPRO 12, JL Audio 10TW3-D4 and 12TW3, Alpine RSW10, and ResoNix GUS 10, GUS 12, and GUS 15. Each enclosure is calculated for the specific driver model. If your driver isn't listed, contact our tech team. We build vehicle-specific and driver-specific enclosures on request.
Why don't you carry ResoNix drivers?
Audio Intensity carries a curated lineup of subwoofer brands. ResoNix isn't currently in our driver lineup, but the GUS series is a strong shallow-mount driver and a number of buyers ask for matched enclosures. We build the Micro Series enclosures to ResoNix GUS parameters as a fitment service for buyers who already own the driver or are buying it elsewhere.
What's the difference between Micro Series and Performance Optimized?
Both are driver-matched. The differences are construction method and driver class. Performance Optimized uses Dado and V-Groove panel construction, sized for full-depth high-output drivers like Arc Audio, Image Dynamics, and JL Audio W-series. Micro Series uses stack fabrication construction, sized for compact and shallow drivers where mounting depth is the limiting constraint. Both deliver matched tuning. Each is the right tool for its specific driver class.
Will a Micro Series enclosure work with a different driver than it's labeled for?
The baffle cutout is machined to the labeled driver's exact dimensions, and the internal volume is calculated for that driver's parameters. Mechanically a different driver might fit the cutout, but the enclosure won't be performing the way it was designed to. For best results, match the enclosure to the labeled driver.
Are these sealed only or are ported options available?
The Micro Series is sealed only. Sealed alignment is the right match for shallow and compact drivers in space-constrained installs. Ported alignments require significantly more internal volume, which defeats the compact design intent. For ported builds with full-depth drivers, the Performance or Performance Optimized series is the right pick.
Does polyfill affect the tuning?
Polyfill is included in the Micro Series because in a sealed alignment, polyfill works with the tuning rather than against it. Polyfill reduces standing wave reflections inside the cabinet and effectively increases the apparent internal volume, giving the driver a slightly larger acoustic environment than the cabinet's physical dimensions. The polyfill quantity in each Micro Series enclosure is sized to the specific cabinet volume to optimize this effect.
What size amplifier do I need?
Match your amplifier's RMS output at your wired impedance to the driver's RMS rating. The Micro Series enclosure doesn't change the power requirement. Wavtech thinPRO drivers run 750W RMS. JL Audio TW3 drivers run 400W RMS. Alpine RSW drivers run 250 to 750W RMS depending on model. ResoNix GUS drivers run 350 to 800W RMS depending on size. A monoblock amplifier matched to the driver's RMS rating at the final wired impedance is the standard approach.
