Sealed and Ported, 8 to 18 Inch

Digital Designs builds drivers across a wide range, from the 300, 500, 600 and 700 series and the SL line to the 9500 and 9900 series. The enclosures here cover that range from 8 to 18 inch: sealed and ported wedges, ported down-fires, and Professional Series ported cabinets for the drivers built to be pushed.

Every cabinet is machined in Tullahoma, Tennessee to the parameters DD publishes for the one driver it names, so match the model number rather than the cone size.

Two Series, Two Jobs

Performance Optimized: shaped to the space
Sealed and ported wedges and ported down-fires on a 1.5 inch double baffle, each cut to one DD driver's published alignment. The sealed versions ship with polyfill installed; the ported versions ship without it, with the tuning on the listing.

Professional Series: ported, built heavier
Standard front-firing ported cabinets with a thicker baffle and more internal bracing, from a single 8 to the 9518L ESP at 18 inch. This is where the largest DD alignments live, including duals for the 508e, 710g and 715f.

How to Choose

Start from the model number
Each cabinet is cut to one DD driver's published parameters. A 512e and an SL612 are both twelves and want different cabinets, so match the model rather than the size.

Then pick the alignment
Sealed is the smaller, more forgiving box and holds its output below tuning. Ported gives more output around its tuning frequency from a larger cabinet. The sealed and ported pages set the two side by side.

Read the tuning, not just the volume
The ported DD cabinets run from 30 to 37.5 Hz, and every ported listing states its figure. The subwoofer tuning tool helps if you are deciding, and the port area calculator shows why the ports on high-excursion DD drivers are sized the way they are.

Then source the driver
We do not stock Digital Designs subwoofers, so these cabinets are cut for a driver you already own or buy elsewhere. Other brands are on the subwoofer box hub.

Choosing the Shape

Wedge: against a seat back
The rear panel is tapered to sit flush against a raked seat back or a truck cab wall, recovering airspace a square box would waste. Most of the DD range is offered this way, sealed or ported.

Down-fire: on a flat floor
The cone faces the floor, with the gap set by the cabinet's feet. It suits an SUV or hatch cargo floor where height is short.

Standard front-firing: an open trunk
The Professional Series cabinets are conventional rectangles. They need the most room and suit the drivers that want the largest ported alignments.

Port Area Is Sized for the Excursion

On the ported cabinets, port length and cross-sectional area are cut together to hit the stated tuning, with the area sized for the excursion the driver is rated to. On a long-throw DD driver that is why the port looks large next to a generic one, and why it stays quiet at volume.

We Cut the Box, You Source the Driver

We do not stock Digital Designs subwoofers. These cabinets are built to DD's published figures for a driver you already own or buy elsewhere. Nothing about the fit depends on where the driver came from.

The DD Range at a Glance

8 inch: sealed wedges for the 2508g ESP and 608f, a ported wedge for the SL608, and Professional Series ported cabinets for the 508e in single and dual.

10 inch: sealed wedges for the 610f, 9510L ESP and SL710, ported down-fires for the 310e and SL610, and Professional Series ported cabinets for the 710g in single and dual.

12 inch: a sealed wedge for the 712f, a sealed down-fire and a ported wedge for the SL712, ported wedges for the 312e, 512e and SL612, and a Professional Series ported cabinet for the 9512L ESP.

15 and 18 inch: a sealed wedge for the 9915c, ported wedges for the 515e and SL715, Professional Series ported cabinets for the 715f in single and dual, and the 9518L ESP.

Digital Designs Subwoofer Box Questions

Which Digital Designs subwoofers do these boxes fit?

Drivers from the 300, 500, 600, 700 and SL series and the 2500, 9500 and 9900 series, from 8 to 18 inch. Each product page names the exact model its cabinet was cut for. Match that model rather than the nominal size, because two DD twelves from different series want different cabinets.

Do you sell Digital Designs subwoofers?

No. We build the enclosure to the figures DD publishes and you source the driver. If you already own the subwoofer, that is exactly what these cabinets are for.

Should my DD sub go in a sealed or ported box?

It depends on the model and your space. Sealed is smaller and holds its output below tuning; ported gives more output around its tuning frequency from a larger cabinet. Our EBP calculator is a quick first check on which alignment a driver favours.

What is the difference between Performance Optimized and Professional Series?

Performance Optimized cabinets are wedges and down-fires on a 1.5 inch double baffle, sealed or ported, and carry a 1-year limited warranty. Professional Series cabinets are standard front-firing ported builds with a heavier baffle and more internal bracing, and carry a 2-year limited warranty.

What tuning are the ported cabinets cut to?

Each listing states its figure. Across the DD range the ported cabinets are tuned between 30 and 37.5 Hz. Lower tuning extends deeper and gives up some midbass punch; higher tuning hits harder and gives up extension.

Do the sealed boxes come with polyfill?

Yes. Every sealed cabinet ships with polyfill installed. The ported cabinets ship without it, so the tuning stated on the listing is the tuning you get.

Can you build for a DD model that is not listed?

Usually. Everything is CNC-cut to order in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Send us the exact model, sealed or ported, and your maximum external dimensions through contact, and we will tell you whether we can cut it and quote it.
