Cut for the Audiofrog GB series

Audiofrog's GB series is a sound-quality subwoofer line, and it is one of the very few whose published parameters survive every check we run against them. So these cabinets are built to Audiofrog's own recommended sealed volume rather than to a target we picked: 0.60 cubic feet net for the GB10 and 1.00 for the GB12, exactly the figures in their manual.

Every one is sealed, CNC-cut in Tullahoma, Tennessee, and supplied bare for a driver you already own. Most are rear-firing wedges; the dual 10 is also built as a down fire for a floor with no seat back to lean against. We do not stock Audiofrog drivers, so there is no loaded option here.

Only the dual 10 is offered both ways, and the two hold the same air, so this is a fitment decision rather than a sound one.

Built to the Manufacturer's Alignment, Not Ours

Most brand pages involve a judgement call, because most manufacturers publish an enclosure recommendation that does not agree with their own Thiele-Small data. Audiofrog is the exception. Their recommended sealed volumes land at a system Qtc between 0.82 and 0.88 across both sizes and both coil versions, which is a deliberate, consistent voicing rather than an accident.

That is a moderately damped alignment. It trades a little of the transient dryness a textbook 0.707 would give you for a slight lift through the midbass, and it is the character Audiofrog designed the driver around. Building to a different number would give you a different speaker.

Choosing Between Them

Start with the driver you own or intend to buy, because the cutout is not interchangeable between the GB10 and the GB12.

Then decide on one driver or two

A single cabinet is smaller in every dimension and lighter to carry, and one GB driver on 500 watts is already a serious subwoofer. A dual doubles the cone area and the power handling, and because each driver gets its own sealed chamber the pair behaves exactly as the single does rather than modulating each other's air load.

Watch the width on the dual 12

The dual GB12 is the largest cabinet in the range and it sits at our 32 inch width cap, with the extra volume taken up in depth instead. Measure the trunk opening before ordering it. The dual GB10 is under 28 inches wide and clears most sedan openings comfortably.

The coil version does not change the box

It changes what your amplifier sees. The GB series carries an impedance selection switch on the driver rather than bringing the coils out to the terminals, so the D2 version selects 1 or 4 ohms and the D4 selects 2 or 8. Set it before you mount the driver, because the switch faces the motor.

Which Cabinet Fits Your Driver

Match the size first and the driver count second. Both coil versions of a given size share a frame, a cutout and a mounting depth, so a cabinet cut for the GB10 fits the GB10D2 and the GB10D4 without modification.

The GB10 cabinets take a 9.252 inch cutout and clear the 6.26 inch mounting depth the driver needs. The GB12 cabinets take an 11.063 inch cutout and clear 6.654 inches. Those figures come off Audiofrog's own mounting template, which prints them in both millimetres and inches; where the two disagree slightly we cut to the larger, so a driver is never fighting an undersized hole.

Then pick the shape. A wedge has a vertical baffle and a tapered rear panel, sits against the rear seat back and fires into the trunk. The down fire dual 10 sits flat with the cones facing down and its feet ship uninstalled, so it can be run front firing instead. Built to Audiofrog's Own Volume

Both sizes are cut to the sealed volume Audiofrog publishes, 0.60 cubic feet for the GB10 and 1.00 for the GB12. Their figure is a net volume, confirmed against their own enclosure drawings, so it goes in unchanged rather than being converted.

Impedance Is a Switch, Not a Wiring Job

The GB series does not bring its coils out to the terminals. A switch on the driver selects 1 or 4 ohms on the D2 version and 2 or 8 on the D4. On a dual cabinet set both drivers to the high position, because the terminal cup wires the two positions in parallel.

One Series, Two Sizes, Two Shapes

Everything here is a sealed Performance Optimized cabinet, in ten and twelve inch, with a single and a dual version of each. Nothing is ported, because the GB series is a sealed driver and a sealed box is what Audiofrog themselves recommend for it.

Most are rear-firing wedges. The dual 10 is also built as a down fire, on a flat 30 by 15 inch footprint, and it holds the same volume per chamber as the wedge does. The two are the same enclosure in two shapes, so that choice is about where the cabinet has to sit rather than how it performs.

The duals hold exactly the same volume per chamber as the singles too, so a GB10 dual publishes the same Qtc and the same F3 as a GB10 single. Choosing between them is a question of output and space, not of alignment.

Which Audiofrog subwoofers do these boxes fit?

The GB series, in ten and twelve inch. A cabinet cut for the GB10 fits both the GB10D2 and the GB10D4, and a GB12 cabinet fits the GB12D2 and the GB12D4, because the coil versions share a frame, a cutout and a mounting depth.

Do you sell Audiofrog subwoofers too?

No. We cut enclosures for them but we are not an Audiofrog dealer, so every cabinet here ships bare for a driver you already own or buy elsewhere. If the driver is still an open decision, the subwoofers we do stock are worth a look.

Should I get the wedge or the down fire?

Whichever fits the space, because acoustically there is nothing between them. The down fire dual 10 holds the same 0.60 cubic feet per driver as the wedge dual and publishes the same Qtc and the same F3. The wedge leans against a rear seat back and fires into the trunk; the down fire sits flat on the floor with the cones facing down, and its feet ship uninstalled so it can be run front firing instead.

Why are these built to 0.60 and 1.00 cubic feet?

Because those are Audiofrog's own recommended sealed volumes, and unusually their recommendation agrees with their published Thiele-Small data. Both land at a system Qtc between 0.82 and 0.88, a consistent voicing across the range rather than a number that only works on one model.

Does the dual hold less air per driver than the single?

No. Each chamber in a dual cabinet holds exactly the same volume as the single version, so both publish the same Qtc and the same F3. The dual is a bigger cabinet because it holds two of that chamber, not because the chambers are compromised.

Are these sealed or ported?

Sealed, all of them. Audiofrog does publish a vented recommendation for the GB series, but the sealed alignment is what suits the driver's parameters and what fits a car. Every sealed cabinet we build ships with polyfill already installed.

What impedance will my amplifier see?

That depends on the switch on the driver rather than on any wiring you do. A single D2 gives 1 or 4 ohms and a single D4 gives 2 or 8. On a dual cabinet the terminal cup parallels the two positions, so set both drivers high: a D2 pair then presents 2 ohms and a D4 pair presents 4.
