Ported, Standard Front-Firing

These are ported cabinets cut for Ground Zero subwoofers, machined in Tullahoma, Tennessee to the parameters Ground Zero publishes for the driver each one names.

Both are standard front-firing builds, and both have the port cut and tuned as part of the design rather than added to a sealed box afterwards.

Ported Ground Zero enclosures in Performance Optimized and Professional Series, standard front-firing, with the port tuned per cabinet.

Cut, assembled and finished in Tullahoma, Tennessee, to the parameters Ground Zero publishes for each driver.

Driver parameters are taken from Ground Zero published data. We stock Ground Zero subwoofers and cut enclosures to those figures.

Ported, With the Port Designed In

Port length and cross-sectional area together set the tuning frequency, and that frequency is chosen for one specific driver. Around it the port radiates alongside the cone and the cabinet produces more output than a sealed box of the same size. Below it the port unloads the cone and output falls away.

The cost is volume. A ported cabinet needs more airspace than a sealed one for the same driver, because the port lives inside it and the alignment needs the room. If your space will not take that, a sealed cabinet in the same spot will do better than a ported one squeezed to fit.

Every Ground Zero Model We Build For

10 Ground Zero models, each with its own cabinets. Ported tunings are the frequency each box is tuned to.

8 inch

How to Choose

Confirm the space takes a ported cabinet

Ported needs more airspace than sealed for the same driver. That is the first thing to establish.

Read the variant, not just the title

A listing here offers more than one driver size and configuration under a single product. The variant you pick determines the cabinet you get.

Check the tuning frequency

Two cabinets of the same net volume tuned a few hertz apart are different products. The stated tuning tells you where the cabinet does its best work.

Airspace, Tuning and the Model

Airspace decides whether ported is possible

The cabinet has to hold the net volume the alignment needs plus the port itself. Measure the opening before anything else, because this is the constraint that rules the alignment in or out.

Then the tuning frequency

Lower tuning extends deeper and gives up midbass impact; higher tuning does the reverse. It is fixed by the port rather than adjustable afterwards, and each listing states what its cabinet is tuned to.

Then confirm the Ground Zero model

A cabinet here covers more than one driver size across its variants, so read the variant as well as the product title. The product page states which Ground Zero model and which configuration each option is cut for.

The Port Is Tuned, Not Just Cut

Port length and area together produce a specific tuning frequency for a specific Ground Zero driver, and the area is sized for the excursion that driver is rated to. A port too small for the excursion will make noise at volume, and no amount of tuning afterwards removes it.

A Listing Can Cover Several Variants

A cabinet here is offered in more than one driver size and configuration under a single product, so the variant you choose decides the enclosure you receive. Read the variant as well as the product title before ordering.

Two Build Standards, Both Ported

A Performance Optimized cabinet on a 1.5 inch double baffle, and a Professional Series build with heavier baffle and bracing work. Both standard front-firing, both single-driver.

Port area is sized for the excursion the driver is rated to rather than for a convenient number, because a port too small for the excursion will make audible noise at volume and no tuning afterwards removes it.

Driver-matched

Performance Optimized Series

Ported

Cut to one driver on a 1.5 inch double baffle, with the port tuned for that driver rather than to a generic figure.

Cut to one driver

Heavier build

Professional Series

Ported

More baffle and more internal bracing, which a ported alignment rewards more than a sealed one does.

Ground Zero Subwoofer Box Questions

Which Ground Zero subwoofers do these boxes fit?

Each cabinet is cut to the published parameters of a specific Ground Zero model, named on its product page. A listing here covers more than one driver size across its variants, so read the variant as well as the title.

Are these sealed or ported?

Both are ported, with the port cut and tuned as part of the design. Around the tuning frequency a ported cabinet produces more output than a sealed box of the same size; below it, output falls away steeply.

Why does a ported box need more space?

Because the port has to fit inside the cabinet and the alignment itself needs more net volume to work. If your space will not take the larger cabinet, a sealed enclosure in that space will outperform a ported one that was shrunk to fit.

What is the difference between the two builds?

One is a Performance Optimized cabinet on a 1.5 inch double baffle. The other is Professional Series, with heavier baffle and internal bracing work. Both are cut to the published parameters of the driver they name.

Can I modify the port to change the tuning?

We do not recommend it. Port length and area are cut to produce a specific tuning for a specific driver, and altering either leaves you with an alignment nobody designed.

Do you stock Ground Zero products?

We hold some Ground Zero stock. Availability on this range moves, so the product page shows the current position rather than this one.
