When depth is the constraint

Micro Subwoofer Boxes

Stack-fabricated shallow-mount cabinets, CNC-cut in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Proline X Micro Series - Audio Intensity

When depth is the constraint

Micro Series exists for one problem: the space has a depth the vehicle decided and you cannot argue with it. Behind a seat, under a seat, in a cargo well with a false floor above it.

These are stack-fabricated cabinets, layered CNC-cut panels with dowels between the layers acting as tension reinforcement, which keeps the walls rigid at an external footprint a conventional dado-jointed box cannot reach.

Shallow-mount cabinets in stock | stack-fab with dowel reinforcement | all sealed | ships with feet, so down-fire or upright | 2 year warranty

Cut, assembled and finished in Tullahoma, Tennessee, on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF.

Net volume for a driver-matched cabinet is calculated from the parameters the driver manufacturer publishes for that model. Universal-cutout cabinets are cut to a standard cutout and a stated volume range instead.

Micro Series Against the Standard-Depth Builds

The comparison worth reading before you commit to a shallow build, because shallow costs something and it is better to know what.

Shared across every row: Langboard Elite MDF cut on ShopSabre routers in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Plush black carpet. A Proline X ABS and carbon fibre composite terminal cup with stainless hardware, pre-wired in 12-gauge OFC. Construction method varies by series and is stated on each product page.

Stack Fabrication, and Why It Is Not Just a Smaller Box

A shallow cabinet built the conventional way runs out of wall stiffness before it runs out of space. Stack fabrication solves that differently: instead of joining six panels at their edges, the cabinet is built up from layers, with dowels through them putting the structure in tension.

That buys two things. The walls stay rigid at a reduced external size, and the area behind the driver magnet can be precision milled to recover internal volume and relieve backpressure against the voice coil. All four corners are radiused three inches top down. Internal volume is calculated by summing each layer opening rather than estimated from the outside.

How to Choose a Micro Series Enclosure

Establish the depth budget before anything else

It is the only reason to be on this page. If a standard-depth cabinet fits your space, a Performance Optimized build will generally give you more cabinet for the money.

Then match the driver model

Each cabinet is cut to one shallow-mount driver published parameters. The product page names it, and that name is the match to work from.

Single or dual

A dual Micro is common chamber on some builds and dual chamber on others, and the listing states which. Either way each driver gets less volume than it would alone, because the external footprint is the fixed constraint.

Decide whether you want it to go either way

Every Micro ships with feet, so it runs down-firing or upright. That flexibility is worth something if the cabinet may move to another vehicle later.

Measure Depth First, and Measure It Properly

With the trim in place, not off a drawing

The number that matters is the real clearance in the vehicle, which is almost always less than the published cabin dimension. Under a fold-flat seat, measure to the seat back at its lowest position rather than its highest.

Count the feet into the total height

Every Micro ships with feet. If you are running it down-firing they set the clearance the cone needs; either way they add to the overall height, and that is the figure that has to fit.

Then confirm the driver is shallow enough too

A Micro cabinet does not make a standard-depth driver fit a shallow space. The cabinet and the driver both have to be shallow, which is why each listing names the model it was cut for.

Shallow Is a Solution to a Constraint, Not an Upgrade

If you have the depth for a standard driver in a standard cabinet, that will generally give you more output for the money. Micro Series exists because behind-seat and under-seat spaces have a depth the vehicle fixed and you do not. Buy it for the constraint, not for the badge.

Every Micro Ships With Feet

That is why a Micro cabinet can carry a standard orientation on its spec panel and still appear on the down-fire page. The feet make it down-fire capable without it being cut exclusively for that, which is a genuine advantage if the cabinet may move vehicles later.

Sealed, and Down-Fire Capable Without Being Cut For It

Every Micro cabinet is sealed and ships with polyfill already installed. The spec panel lists a standard orientation, and every one also ships with feet, which makes it down-fire capable without being cut exclusively for it. If you want a cabinet that can go either way in a future vehicle, that is the distinction to shop on.

Ten, twelve and fifteen inch, single and dual, each cut to one driver published parameters on a 1.5 inch baffle.

Why this range exists

Behind a seat, under a seat, or beneath a false floor. If a standard-depth cabinet fits, you do not need this standard and should not pay for it.

The flexibility

Ships with feet

Runs either way

Down-fire capable without being cut exclusively for it, so the same cabinet works upright or aimed at the floor if it moves to another vehicle.

Count the feet into total height

Baffle thickness and construction method vary by series. Each product page states how that cabinet is built and, where it is driver-matched, which model it was cut for.

Micro Series Questions

What is a Micro Series enclosure?

A shallow-mount cabinet built by stack fabrication rather than conventional joinery: layered CNC-cut panels with dowels between them acting as tension reinforcement. That keeps the walls rigid at a smaller external size, which is what a behind-seat or under-seat space needs.

Will a Micro box make my standard subwoofer fit a shallow space?

No. The cabinet and the driver both have to be shallow. A Micro cabinet is cut to a specific shallow-mount driver published parameters, and the product page names the model. Putting a standard-depth driver in one does not work geometrically.

Are these down-firing or standard?

Both, which is why they appear on the down-fire page as well. The spec panel lists a standard orientation, and every Micro ships with feet, so it runs down-firing or upright. It is down-fire capable without being cut exclusively for it.

Do I give anything up by going shallow?

Yes, and it is worth being clear about. A shallow driver in a reduced cabinet will not match a standard driver in a standard box for output at the same price. Shallow is a solution to a space constraint. If you have the depth, spend the money on the standard build instead.

Why is the warranty longer than Performance Optimized?

Micro Series carries a 2 year limited warranty on craftsmanship and materials against 1 year for Performance Optimized. Stack fabrication with dowel reinforcement is the more involved build, and the warranty follows the construction.

Are the dual cabinets common chamber or dual chamber?

It varies by build and the listing states which. Either way each driver gets less volume than it would have alone, because the external footprint is the constraint the whole cabinet is designed around.
