Where the cabinet is the point

Professional Series is where the cabinet stops being a container and becomes part of the system. Heavier baffles, more internal bracing, and the port work that a high-excursion driver actually needs rather than the port that happens to fit.

It is also the part of the range that has always run ported, because the drivers built to take that kind of loading are the ones this standard exists for.

Net volume for a driver-matched cabinet is calculated from the parameters the driver manufacturer publishes for that model. Universal-cutout cabinets are cut to a standard cutout and a stated volume range instead.

The Standard That Runs Ported

Across the rest of the range the alignment follows the driver: a Performance Optimized cabinet is solved sealed or ported to suit the model it is cut for. Professional Series starts from the port. The drivers at this level are built for output, their parameters put them in ported territory, and a sealed cabinet would cost a significant part of what they are capable of.

That changes what the cabinet has to do. Port area has to suit the excursion the driver is rated for, because an undersized port produces audible chuffing at high excursion that sounds like a fault and is just air velocity. Port length sets the tuning, and the tuning is fixed at the cut rather than adjustable afterwards.

How to Choose a Professional Series Enclosure

Establish the space takes a ported cabinet

Ported needs more airspace than sealed for the same driver, and there is no way around that. If your space will not take the larger cabinet, a sealed enclosure in that space will outperform a ported one that was shrunk to fit.

Read the tuning, not just the volume

Two cabinets of identical net volume tuned a few hertz apart are different products. The stated tuning is the number that tells you where the cabinet does its best work.

Match the amplifier to the driver, honestly

These cabinets are built for drivers that draw real current. Work from RMS at your final wired impedance rather than from peak figures, and confirm the electrical system before ordering.

Then single or dual

On a ported build a dual usually shares one chamber and one port sized for the pair, so the quoted volume is the total rather than per driver. The listing states which arrangement it uses.

Sealed at this standard exists too

A few cabinets here are sealed, for reference drivers where control rather than output is the point. The construction is the same; the alignment is not.

Volume, Port, Then Driver

Confirm the airspace before anything else

A ported cabinet has to hold the net volume the alignment needs plus the port itself, and at this end of the range that total is substantial. Measure the whole opening rather than the face. This is the constraint that rules the alignment in or out.

Then read the tuning frequency

Lower tuning extends deeper and gives up midbass impact; higher tuning does the reverse. It is set by the port at the point of cutting, not adjustable afterwards, and each listing states what its cabinet is tuned to.

Then confirm the driver model

Two drivers of the same nominal size want different volumes and different tunings, and at this level the gap between them is larger in absolute terms. The product page names the model each cabinet was cut for.

Port Area Is Not a Detail

A port too small for the excursion the driver is rated to will make audible noise at volume, and no tuning afterwards removes it. Port area at this standard is sized for the excursion rather than for a convenient number, which is part of why the cabinets are as large as they are.

Baffle thickness at this standard runs beyond the 1.5 inch double used across Performance Optimized, with threaded inserts matched to the driver bolt pattern where we hold it. The bracing is doing real work here, because the panel areas are large and the internal pressures are high.

Net volumes reach ten cubic feet, which is the largest cabinet we cut. At that size the space is not something you find, it is something you plan the vehicle around.

What makes a cabinet Professional Series?

How much space does a Professional cabinet need?

More than most people plan for. A ported cabinet holds the net volume the alignment needs plus the port, and net volumes at this standard reach ten cubic feet. Published external dimensions are on every listing. Check them before you commit to the driver.

Can I change the tuning by modifying the port?

We do not recommend it. Port length and area are cut to produce a specific tuning for a specific driver, and altering either leaves you with an alignment nobody designed. If you want a different tuning, tell us and we will cut it.

What is the difference from Performance Optimized?

Performance Optimized is cut to one driver on a 1.5 inch double baffle, sealed or ported to suit that driver. Professional adds baffle thickness and bracing, usually runs ported, and covers the drivers built for that loading. Both are cut to published parameters; Professional is more cabinet around them, and carries a 2 year warranty against 1 year.

Do these need a bigger amplifier?

They need an honestly matched one. Work from the driver RMS at your final wired impedance rather than from peak figures, and confirm your electrical system supports the current draw before ordering.
