INSTALLER'S TAKE

The IDMAX15 V.4 is the flagship of the IDMAX platform and one of a very small number of 15" drivers that legitimately competes at SQ events. Same core platform as the IDMAX10 and IDMAX12: glass fiber reinforced pressed paper pulp cone, aluminum neck joint, Nomex spider, parabolic surround (EPDM rubber on the 15 specifically), American-made flat-wound extended voice coil, cast aluminum frame, field-replaceable cone assembly. Bigger everything: 575 oz motor (vs the 12's 400 oz), 60mm BASV voice coil former, 2.5" voice coil, 934 cm² of piston area (72% more than the IDMAX12, 146% more than the IDMAX10), 22mm one-way linear excursion, 44 lb driver weight, 10.40" mounting depth.

Volume math: 3.26 cu ft gross minus the IDMAX15's 0.26 cu ft mounted displacement = exactly 3.00 cu ft net. Image Dynamics publishes 3.0 cu ft as the Audiophile sealed alignment for the IDMAX15 platform. Direct hit on ID's published spec.

Qtc math using Amazon-published T/S parameters: D2 (Qts 0.48, Vas 104.03 L, Fs 29.9 Hz) at 3.00 net lands Qtc near 0.72. Fc around 45 Hz, F3 around 44 Hz sealed. Essentially Butterworth. Flat, controlled, musical. D4 (Qts 0.50, Vas 109.03 L, Fs 29.61 Hz) at 3.00 net lands Qtc near 0.76. Fc around 45 Hz, F3 around 42 Hz sealed. Slight lift above Butterworth, marginally deeper F3, warmer character.

Both variants are similarly-aligned in this cabinet. The D2 vs D4 character difference on the IDMAX15 is much more subtle than on the IDMAX10 or IDMAX12. In practical terms, choose based on impedance for your amp — not on character preference, because the character difference here is subtle.

Here's the honest talk about IDMAX15 sealed vs ported that most product pages skip: the IDMAX15 has a higher Fs (30 Hz) than the IDMAX10 (27 Hz) and IDMAX12 (26 Hz). Combined with the Vas math at ID's Audiophile sealed alignment, this means the IDMAX15 sealed F3 stays in the low 40s even at 3.0 cu ft. The smaller IDMAX 10 and 12 actually reach lower F3 sealed in their respective Audiophile alignments (~37 Hz for both). This is counterintuitive — usually bigger = deeper. Not here. The IDMAX15's advantage over the smaller drivers is cone area and output capability at any given SPL, not sealed extension depth.

For deep extension below 30 Hz on an IDMAX15, you want ported. ID publishes an Audiophile ported alignment at 4.0 cu ft tuned to 27 Hz reaching F3 at 27 Hz. That's the configuration that scores points on deep-bass SQ tracks. This sealed build gives you the IDMAX15's musical control and maximum sealed output, with F3 in the low 40s. Both are legitimate depending on what matters — if you need F3 below 30, this isn't it. If you want sealed transient control paired with 934 cm² of cone area, this is exactly it.

Cabinet size: 30.6" wide, 18" tall, 11.92" deep at top, 18.47" deep at bottom. This is the biggest cabinet in the entire PO Wedge line by a real margin. Wider than the RF T1D215 15" wedge, wider than the RF P3D2-15 wedge, taller than every other 15" wedge. If your vehicle can't accommodate approximately 31" of width and 19" of trunk-floor depth, this is not your build. Verify before ordering.

Mounting: 10.40" mount depth. Deepest driver in the entire PO Wedge lineup — 0.47" deeper than the IDMAX12 (8.15"), 2.65" deeper than the RF T1D215 (7.75"). Cabinet has about 4.05" of rear clearance behind the driver at cabinet center. Adequate for the IDMAX15's 575 oz motor and 60mm former assembly, but not generous.

Weight and shipping: this thing is heavy. Empty cabinet approximately 65 lb in Langboard MDF. Add the 44 lb driver = ~109 lb loaded. Two-person install required, no ambiguity. Standard UPS ground is capped at 150 lb but oversize surcharges apply above 96" length + girth combined — this cabinet is borderline. Expect either freight shipping or heavy-parcel handling. If you're not sure your trunk opening will accommodate a 30.6" wide cabinet, measure before ordering.

Power target: 600 watts RMS per ID's V.4 spec sheet. Real-world sweet spot 500-800 watts RMS. The Rockford Fosgate T1000-1bdCP (1000W @ 1Ω / 700W @ 2Ω) is factory-scale for the IDMAX15. Arc Audio X2 1100.5 or similar 500-800W monoblocks work equally well. Set LPF around 70-90 Hz, subsonic around 20-25 Hz. Slope 24 dB/octave both.

D2 impedance warning — READ THIS CAREFULLY: The IDMAX15 D2 has Re of 1.4 ohms per coil. Parallel = 0.7 ohms DC-measured. This is BELOW the 1-ohm stable rating of essentially every class D monoblock on the market. Not "borderline" like the IDMAX12 D2 at 0.83 ohms — genuinely below 1 ohm. Most amps marketed as "1-ohm stable" will trigger thermal protection or shut down entirely on a 0.7 ohm load. Wire the D2 in series for 4 ohms unless your amplifier's actual spec sheet lists minimum impedance below 1 ohm. Do not trust marketing materials on this. The D4 doesn't have this problem — parallel = exactly 2 ohms, safe for everything.

Given the D2's problematic parallel impedance and the very similar acoustic character between D2 and D4 in this cabinet, the D4 is often the smarter buy for most installs. The D2 makes sense specifically for competitors running an amp designed for below-1-ohm operation.

Audiophile Alignment Explained | Why 3.0 Cubic Feet Net

Image Dynamics publishes three sealed alignments for the IDMAX15 platform in the V.4 series manual — a Compact alignment (approximately 1.5 cu ft) for maximum power handling in constrained installs, a Universal alignment (approximately 2.0 cu ft) for balanced performance, and the Audiophile alignment (3.0 cu ft) for maximum extension and lowest Qtc in a sealed cabinet. Each alignment produces a different acoustic character with different power handling ceilings and different F3 targets. The Performance Optimized Wedge Sealed 15 is engineered to the Audiophile sealed alignment exactly.

Both alignments sit close to classic Butterworth (Qtc 0.707). The D2 produces the flattest, most controlled response the IDMAX15 can deliver in a sealed cabinet. The D4 produces a marginally warmer character with the slight upper-bass lift Qts 0.50 provides at this alignment. Neither variant produces the punchy midbass-forward character of a compact sealed alignment or the deep tuned extension of a properly ported cabinet. D2 vs D4 Selection

The IDMAX15 D2 and D4 have very similar Qts values (0.48 vs 0.50), producing nearly identical Qtc alignments in this cabinet. The character difference is subtle — much more subtle than the D2/D4 differences on the IDMAX12 or IDMAX10. For the IDMAX15, the primary D2/D4 selection driver is impedance compatibility with your amplifier rather than character preference. Wiring the Image Dynamics IDMAX15 V.4 to Your Amplifier

The IDMAX15 V.4 is a dual-voice-coil driver available in two impedance configurations. The pre-wired terminal cup accepts the two-conductor connection via 10-gauge OFC, with stainless steel input hardware accepting both spade and banana terminations.

IDMAX15 V.4 D2 (Dual 2-ohm) — Read Before Wiring: The IDMAX15 D2 has DC resistance of 1.4 ohms per coil. Wired in parallel, the combined DC-measured load is approximately 0.7 ohms — meaningfully below the 1-ohm stable rating of nearly all modern class D monoblocks. This is not the 0.83-ohm parallel measurement on the IDMAX12 D2 that some amps tolerate; the IDMAX15 D2 parallel is a hard "no" for most amplifiers and will trigger protection modes on many designs marketed as 1-ohm stable. Wire the D2 in series for a 4-ohm load unless your amplifier is explicitly rated for sub-1-ohm operation and specifies minimum impedance below 1 ohm in the actual specification sheet (not the marketing materials). Series wiring at 4 ohms is compatible with essentially all high-quality class D monoblocks.

IDMAX15 V.4 D4 (Dual 4-ohm): Parallel wiring presents a 2-ohm load — compatible with all 1-ohm stable class D monoblocks operating at 2 ohms. Series wiring presents 8 ohms. The D4 is the easier match for standard mainstream amplifiers, especially given the D2's problematic parallel measured impedance. Given the very similar Qtc alignments the D2 and D4 produce in this cabinet, the D4 is often the practical choice unless you have a specific amplifier rated for sub-1-ohm operation and want the D2's slightly deeper F3 in parallel.

The IDMAX15 is rated for 600 watts RMS continuous with 1200 watts peak. In the Audiophile 3.0 cu ft alignment, reduced air-spring loading allows greater cone excursion at the same input power compared to a compact-cabinet alignment — plan for 500-800 watts RMS input from a well-regulated class D monoblock. The Rockford Fosgate T1000-1bdCP (1000W at 1 ohm) is the factory-scale amplifier match at 2 ohms with the D4 or 4 ohms with the D2 in series. Set your amplifier's active low-pass filter between 70 and 90 Hz for musical accuracy in a full-range system. Subsonic filter around 20-25 Hz to protect the mechanical suspension at frequencies well below the alignment's Fc.

Built From a Spec Sheet, Not a Sales Sheet

Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF, 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure, because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.

Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

200 psi: The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures

The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually. The symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.

Stiffness

410,000 psi MOE: Less Flex, Less Resonance

The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness, its resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level, not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.

Screw Holding

325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge: Joints That Stay Locked

Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint, where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.

Sourcing

Named Panel Stock: Not "Premium MDF"

The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification. It is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec. You can look up Langboard Elite independently, verify the numbers on this page, and confirm you are getting what we say you are getting. That is the point.
