Trunk-Load Wedge Design Explained
This wedge is not a front-firing enclosure. The woofer is mounted on the vertical face that sits at the back of the box, closest to the trunk lid, and fires rearward into the trunk cavity. The angled face is on the opposite side of the box — the side that faces the front of the vehicle — and tucks against the rear seat back. Two different problems solved by one geometry, applied here to a driver that rewards the trunk-load approach with the extension and control an audiophile alignment can deliver.
Seat-Side Face Matches Seat Lean
Most factory rear seat backs lean roughly 20 degrees back from vertical. The angled face of this wedge (9.67" at the top, 14.77" at the bottom) matches that lean, tucking against the seat back with no wasted gap. The IDMAX10's 7.68" mount depth is accommodated by the top face without pushing the driver into cabin space.
Trunk-Lid-Side Face Fires the Woofer

Audiophile Alignment Explained | Why 1.28 Cubic Feet Net
Image Dynamics publishes multiple sealed alignments for the IDMAX10 platform in the V.4 series manual — a compact alignment (roughly 0.75 cu ft) for maximum power handling in constrained installs, a universal alignment (roughly 1.0 cu ft) for balanced performance, and the audiophile alignment (roughly 1.25 cu ft) for maximum extension and lowest Qtc. Each alignment produces a different acoustic character with different power handling ceilings and different F3 targets. Both alignments are legitimately audiophile. The D2 sits near classic Butterworth (Qtc 0.707) with a slight lift and the deepest F3 available from a 10" driver in a sealed cabinet. The D4 sits below Butterworth for a smoother, more damped rolloff that pairs well with sound-quality competition scoring that rewards transient accuracy. Neither alignment is the punchy midbass-lift character produced by compact cabinets — the IDMAX10 in a compact alignment is a different animal entirely. This cabinet is engineered for the audiophile side of the driver's capabilities.
What Audiophile Alignment Trades Against
The extended low-end and controlled Qtc come with real trade-offs worth understanding before you order. Cabinet size is significantly larger than a compact 10" enclosure — 23.5" wide, 14" tall, taking up meaningful trunk space. Power handling in a larger cabinet is lower than in a compact alignment because reduced air-spring loading allows greater cone excursion at the same input power — plan for 400-500 watts RMS input rather than pushing the driver's 500W thermal limit continuously. Efficiency is slightly lower — cabin gain and vehicle acoustics matter more when the cabinet does not add its own peak. The audiophile alignment is the right answer when accuracy and extension matter more than compact fitment or maximum output. It is the wrong answer when you need a punchy midbass-forward SPL box in a small space.
D2 vs D4 Selection
The D2 wired in parallel presents a 1-ohm load — pair it with a modern class D monoblock stable at 1 ohm delivering 400-500 watts RMS. The D4 wired in parallel presents a 2-ohm load — pair it with a class D monoblock delivering 400-500 watts RMS at 2 ohms. Both variants fit this cabinet identically since the physical dimensions and displacement are the same across the DVC configurations.
Mounting Geometry and Driver Fitment
The vertical trunk-lid-side baffle is cut to the IDMAX10 V.4's exact 9.65" cutout specification. The IDMAX10's 7.68" mounting depth fits inside the cabinet with proper clearance — internal depth from the vertical baffle to the interior of the angled seat-side face ranges from approximately 8.7" at the top baffle edge to 13.27" at the bottom (after accounting for 3/4" MDF panel thickness), with the driver's mounting position at cabinet center providing over 11.4" of clearance behind the motor. Comfortable room for the IDMAX10's oversized motor structure and heavy backplate.

Langboard Elite MDF
Premium 3/4" MDF panels milled to documented spec — denser and more dimensionally stable than commodity MDF. Panel resonance at the low frequencies the IDMAX10 audiophile alignment reaches would color the character of a driver chosen specifically for accuracy. Langboard's density stops the panels from adding their own signature to the driver's output.
V-Groove and Dado Joinery
CNC-cut V-grooves at every panel intersection let the wedge cabinet fold into its angled shape with maximum glue surface. Dado joints lock the vertical woofer baffle and the angled seat-side panel into the side walls — no fasteners visible from outside, no exposed end grain at joints, no compromise on structural integrity under sustained low-frequency loading.
Internal Bracing
Perimeter cross-brace between the two large opposing faces adds panel stiffness at the wall spans most likely to flex under IDMAX-level cone motion. Standard on this cabinet as delivered.
Pre-Wired Terminal Cup

Wiring the Image Dynamics IDMAX10 V.4 to Your Amplifier
The IDMAX10 V.4 is a dual-voice-coil driver available in two impedance configurations. The pre-wired terminal cup accepts the two-conductor connection via 12-gauge OFC, with stainless steel input hardware accepting both spade and banana terminations.
IDMAX10 V.4 D2 (Dual 2-ohm): Parallel wiring presents a 1-ohm load — ideal for modern class D monoblocks stable at 1 ohm delivering 400-500 watts RMS at that impedance. Series wiring presents 4 ohms if your amplifier is not 1-ohm stable, or in dual-driver installs where paralleling two series-wired drivers at the amp returns to 2 ohms total.
IDMAX10 V.4 D4 (Dual 4-ohm): Parallel wiring presents a 2-ohm load — compatible with essentially all class D monoblocks. Series wiring presents 8 ohms for amplifiers that prefer higher impedance loads. The D4 is generally the easier match for standard mainstream amplifiers.
The IDMAX10 is rated for 500 watts RMS continuous. In the audiophile 1.28 cu ft alignment, the reduced air-spring loading means the driver reaches its mechanical excursion limit before its thermal limit — plan for 400-500 watts RMS input from a well-regulated class D monoblock rather than pushing continuous operation at or above the thermal rating. Set your amplifier's active low-pass filter between 70 and 90 Hz for musical accuracy in a full-range system. Subsonic filter around 20-25 Hz to protect the mechanical suspension at frequencies well below the alignment's Fc.

Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF, 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure, because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.
Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

200 psi: The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures
The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually. The symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.
410,000 psi MOE: Less Flex, Less Resonance
The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness, its resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level, not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.
325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge: Joints That Stay Locked
Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint, where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.
Named Panel Stock: Not "Premium MDF"
The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification. It is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec. You can look up Langboard Elite independently, verify the numbers on this page, and confirm you are getting what we say you are getting. That is the point.
