INSTALLER'S TAKE

The dual thinPRO 12 in an 8" deep enclosure is the product that ends the conversation about shallow-mount limitations. Two 12" competition-grade drivers running 1,500W combined in a system that fits in a trunk floor at 8" deep — there is no conventional dual 12" setup that comes close to this footprint. The 5" voice coils and strontium magnet motors are what make it work. This is not two budget shallow drivers in a box.

The impedance selection at checkout drives the amplifier conversation more than anything else on this product. Know your amplifier before you order. The 1-ohm option gives you the most power from a high-output monoblock but requires an amplifier explicitly rated for 1-ohm operation — not all amps that claim 1-ohm are thermally stable at sustained power. The 2-ohm option is the broadest match for quality Class D monoblocks. The 4-ohm option is the safest electrical choice but requires a monoblock with strong 4-ohm output ratings to hit the power ceiling these drivers need.

At 29" wide and 15" deep, measure your trunk floor before ordering. This is a significant footprint even at 8" tall.

Built Around the Wavtech thinPRO 12

Nothing about this box is generic. Every layer is cut to the thinPRO 12's published sealed target, with the baffle bored to the thinPRO 12's 11.125 in cutout with 8/32 threaded inserts set on the back face, and clearance cut for its 3.0 in mounting depth.

The thinPRO 12 carries a published Fs of 25 Hz, Qts of 0.49 and Vas of 42 litres, and an EBP of 45, which puts it in sealed enclosure territory. We ran the alignment math on that data and built the box to land where it belongs.

Two Drivers, Two Sealed Chambers

A full divider splits this cabinet down the middle. Each thinPRO 12 gets its own 0.60 cubic foot sealed volume, 1.20 cubic feet total. Neither driver sees the other's back pressure, so the pair behaves like two matched single builds rather than one shared chamber.

True net, not marketing net. Internal volume is calculated by summing each CNC cut layer's opening, not estimated from external dimensions minus wall thickness.

Proline X Micro Series Construction

This enclosure is stack fabricated on our ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite 3/4 inch MDF, a dense 48.5 lb/ft³ board with a 200 psi internal bond and 410,000 psi MOE. Every layer is a precision cut ring and the stacked layers do the joining themselves, so there is no butt joint or dado to flex or leak. Dowel reinforcement runs between layers as tension hardware only.

Threaded Inserts, Not Wood Screws

8/32 threaded inserts are set on the backside of the baffle so the driver mounts on machine screws. Pull it a dozen times and the threads are still there.

Pre-Wired Terminal Cup

Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite cup with stainless hardware and copper ring terminals, pre-wired internally with 12 gauge OFC. No CCA anywhere in the build.

Damped and Finished

Polyfill is pre-installed to smooth the in box response, and the shell is wrapped in plush black carpet. Built in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Enclosure Only or Loaded

Order the enclosure bare and mount your own pair of thinPRO 12 drivers, or order it loaded and we mount the drivers, dress the wiring and ship it ready to bolt in.

Sealed Enclosure Performance: Pre-Calculated

Using the published Thiele Small parameters for the Wavtech thinPRO 12, here is the predicted Qtc, system resonance (Fc) and F3 rolloff for this enclosure. Calculated with the same formulas as the Audio Intensity Sealed Box Calculator.

Note on coil choice: The figures above are the thinPRO12-2 set. The thinPRO12-4 carries Qts 0.46 and Vas 42 litres, and a different Fs of 26 Hz, which in this same 0.60 cubic foot volume lands at Qtc 0.857, Fc 48.4 Hz and F3 41.4 Hz. Worth accounting for if you are choosing between the two. Run your own numbers in the Sealed Box Calculator.

Cut for the Driver, Not the Catalog

Select your configuration above. This enclosure ships free to the lower 48 with a 2 year limited warranty, built one at a time in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Ordered loaded, the thinPRO 12 carries its own 1 year manufacturer warranty through authorized dealers.

This enclosure holds 0.60 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Wavtech thinPRO12 runs a system Qtc of 0.86 with half power at 41.4 Hz, and the cone reaches its 20.0 mm travel limit at 1600 W, above the driver’s 750 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 1787 W — +186 W, or 12 percent more power for the same 20.0 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 51.0
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 4 51.0
4 · EBP 51.0
At 51.0 the thinPRO12 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

02What the box does to it

The box lifts resonance from 26.0 Hz free-air to 48 Hz and half power lands at 41.4 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 20.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 1600 W unfiltered  →  1787 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 8 16 24 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 20.0 mm 1600 W reaches Xmax here
4 · 1600 W, no filter4 · 1787 W with subsonic at 25 Hz, 24 dB/octXmax 20.0 mm one-way
Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 20.0 mm. Unfiltered that is 1600 W, reached first at 27 Hz. It sits above the 750 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 1787 W before hitting the same 20.0 mm. That is 12 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Woofer Details
The Wavtech thinPRO 12 is a competition-grade shallow-mount 12" subwoofer built around a 5" dual-gap FEA-optimized motor with double-stacked strontium magnets. At 3.0" mounting depth it delivers 750W RMS handling and 20mm of one-way linear Xmax — specifications that match or exceed many full-depth daily drivers. The honeycomb Nomex and glass fiber composite cone is lightweight and rigid, maintaining cone control at high excursion. Dual mirrored NBR spiders and the patent-pending axial force transfer assembly keep the 5" voice coil centered under sustained high-excursion use. The vented cast aluminum frame manages heat and eliminates frame flex common in stamped steel at this power level. In the dual configuration, final impedance is determined by the driver variant and wiring: 1 ohm uses two Single 2-ohm drivers wired in parallel; 2 ohm uses two Single 4-ohm drivers wired in parallel; 4 ohm uses two Single 2-ohm drivers wired in series. Why This Combo Works

Dual Wavtech thinPRO 12 in a Proline X 1.20 ft³ Sealed Micro Series Enclosure

Each thinPRO 12 driver runs in its own 0.60 ft³ sealed chamber — Wavtech's published optimum sealed volume for this driver. Both chambers are fully separated internally so neither driver's loading affects the other. The 20mm Xmax and 54mm peak-to-peak mechanical travel give each driver the physical capability to produce real 12" output in that volume at sustained power levels. Combined, the system handles 1,500W RMS from a single amplifier connection at your selected final impedance.

The dual configuration doubles cone area and doubles power handling relative to the single 12" system in the same enclosure series, while keeping total enclosure depth at 8" — a dimension that fits in trunk floors and SUV cargo areas where a conventional dual 12" would require two to three times that depth. The polyfill pre-installed in each chamber acoustically extends effective volume, improving low-frequency extension at the bottom of the thinPRO 12's 25–26Hz resonant frequency range.

For amplifier power, the right choice depends on your impedance selection. At 1 ohm, target a 1-ohm-stable monoblock rated at 1,200–1,500W RMS — verify the amplifier is explicitly rated for 1-ohm operation. At 2 ohms, target a monoblock rated at 1,000–1,500W RMS at 2 ohms — the most common match for a high-output Class D monoblock. At 4 ohms, target a monoblock rated at 800–1,200W RMS at 4 ohms — the safest load for amplifiers with a 4-ohm minimum rating. Match your amplifier's stable impedance to your checkout selection before ordering.

Material

Built From a Spec Sheet, Not a Sales Sheet

Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF, 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure, because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.

Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

Specifications

Langboard Elite MDF: Published Mill Data

Property Value Why It Matters
Panel Stock Langboard Elite MDF Named, verifiable panel source, not generic "high-density MDF"
Thickness 3/4" (18mm) Industry standard for subwoofer enclosures; panels below this flex under pressure
Density 48.5 lbs/ft³ Higher density = less porosity, better screw retention, reduced resonance
Internal Bond 200 psi Measures resistance to delamination under sustained internal pressure. The most enclosure-relevant spec on this sheet
Modulus of Rupture (MOR) 4,200 psi Bending strength before the panel breaks, relevant for larger unsupported baffle spans
Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) 410,000 psi Stiffness under load; higher MOE means less panel flex under bass pressure, less resonance
Face Screw Holding 325 lbs How firmly the panel surface holds a screw; critical for baffle joint integrity over time
Edge Screw Holding 250 lbs Panel edge retention, relevant for every joint that isn't face-to-face
Internal Bond

200 psi: The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures

The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually. The symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.

Stiffness

410,000 psi MOE: Less Flex, Less Resonance

The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness, its resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level, not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.

Screw Holding

325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge: Joints That Stay Locked

Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint, where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.

Sourcing

Named Panel Stock: Not "Premium MDF"

The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification. It is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec. You can look up Langboard Elite independently, verify the numbers on this page, and confirm you are getting what we say you are getting. That is the point.

Why Proline X?

Most enclosures are built to a price point. Proline X is built to a spec. Every box starts with published-data MDF, gets CNC-cut to exact internal volume, and is assembled by hand in our Tennessee facility. The difference shows up in the measurements, and in how the box holds up two years into daily use.

CNC-Cut to Spec
