SIZE GUIDE
How to choose a subwoofer size
Size is the most consequential choice you make, and it is driven by the space your vehicle can hold first, your output goal second. A bigger cone moves more air for higher output and deeper extension, but only when the enclosure is sized to support it. Measure the space you have, then pick the largest driver that fits its correct box. A properly sized 10 in the right enclosure beats an oversized 12 crammed into too little air every time.
8 inch: tight and articulate
The pick for the tightest installs: underseat and behind-seat trucks, powersports, motorcycles, and small sedan trunks. An 8 gives fast, articulate low end that blends cleanly with your door speakers, trading ultimate output for speed and placement flexibility. Browse the 8 inch subwoofers.
10 inch: the sweet spot
The best balance of output and box size for most car audio buyers. A 10 has enough cone area for usable bass into the low 30Hz range while staying compact enough for most sedan trunks and behind-seat truck installs. If you are unsure where to start, start here. Browse the 10 inch subwoofers.
12 inch: serious bass
The most popular size for a serious bass build. A 12 delivers strong output at any listening volume with enclosure requirements that still fit most vehicles. It is the default choice when you want real impact without moving to a dedicated SPL setup. Browse the 12 inch subwoofers.
15 inch: maximum output
Maximum cone area and the deepest extension, for buyers who specifically chose 15 over 12 because they need the SPL a smaller driver cannot deliver. A 15 rewards real airspace and amplifier power, and suits trucks and SUVs built around bass. Browse the 15 inch subwoofers.

TYPE GUIDE
Component, loaded, shallow, or powered
Beyond size, subwoofers come in a few build types. Which one is right depends on how much of the system you want to assemble yourself, and how much space and power your vehicle gives you.
Component drivers (raw subs)
The subwoofers in this collection. You choose the driver, then pair it with the correct enclosure and amplifier. This path gives the most flexibility and the best performance per dollar, because every piece is matched to your goal rather than compromised into a one-size box. It is the right choice when you want control over the final result. Pair a driver with a matched enclosure and a monoblock amplifier.
Loaded enclosures (sub plus box)
A driver already installed in a matched enclosure, which removes the box math entirely. Add an amplifier and you have bass. Choose a sealed box for tight, accurate low end, or a ported box for more output from the same driver.
Shallow-mount subwoofers
Purpose-built for installs where a standard-depth sub will not physically clear: behind-seat and under-seat truck spaces, tight doors, and shallow cargo areas. A shallow-mount driver keeps the mounting depth low while still moving real air. Browse the shallow-mount subwoofers.
Powered subwoofers
All-in-one units with the amplifier built in. This is the simplest path to added bass, ideal for compact vehicles and clean installs where space, wiring, and electrical headroom are limited. Browse the powered subwoofers.
Which Type Fits Your Goal
Going the component route is where Audio Intensity has an advantage no other retailer offers: every driver in this collection can be paired with a Proline X enclosure cut to its exact Thiele-Small parameters, covered in the next section.
SPEC-MATCHED ENCLOSURES
The Proline X advantage
Every subwoofer in this collection can be paired with an enclosure built specifically for it, and no other retailer carrying these brands offers that. Not a generic box that approximates the right dimensions, but a CNC-manufactured enclosure calculated from the driver's measured Thiele-Small parameters and cut to those specs on a ShopSabre router in Tullahoma, Tennessee, to 0.005 inch tolerance.
The enclosure is half the system. A correctly matched box is the difference between a subwoofer that performs the way it was engineered to and one that only approximates it. That is the entire reason Proline X exists.
Spec-Matched
Internal volume, port tuning, and baffle dimensions calculated from each driver's actual T-S parameters.
CNC-Cut
Machined on a ShopSabre CNC router to 0.005 inch tolerance for a repeatable, airtight build.
Langboard Elite MDF
Dense 48.5 lb/ft³ MDF with an ABS and carbon-fiber terminal cup, pre-wired with OFC.
Built in Tullahoma, TN
Designed, cut, and shipped from our own Tennessee shop, not drop-shipped.
Driver-matched enclosures are available across the Proline X Performance, Professional, and Micro series, plus vehicle-specific direct-fit boxes for trucks and SUVs. Loaded systems pair the driver with its matched enclosure, pre-installed and pre-wired. Browse the full enclosure lineup.

FAQ
Frequently asked car subwoofer questions
What size subwoofer should I get for my car?
Size selection is driven by available enclosure volume first and your output goal second. An 8 inch fits behind-seat trucks and tight installs, a 10 inch is the practical sweet spot for most sedans and trucks, a 12 inch is the most popular size for serious bass with room to spare, and a 15 inch delivers maximum output for SPL builds with real airspace. Match the driver to the size your install location can actually hold.
What is the best subwoofer for sound quality?
For sound quality, look for a driver with strong motor control and low distortion at high excursion, paired with a sealed enclosure. Image Dynamics is the SQ benchmark, and Arc Audio and Audiomobile cover SQ-focused builds with tight cone control. The best result comes from matching an accurate driver to a correctly sized box rather than chasing raw size or wattage.
Sealed or ported box for a car subwoofer?
A sealed box plays tighter, more accurate bass and is the choice for sound-quality builds and smaller spaces. A ported box plays louder and deeper from the same driver and suits output and SPL builds, but it needs more airspace. The driver's parameters determine which enclosure type extracts its best performance, which is why a spec-matched box matters.
What amplifier do I need for a car subwoofer?
Match the amplifier's RMS output at your final wired impedance to the subwoofer's RMS rating. The standard approach is a monoblock amplifier set to the driver's RMS at the wired impedance. Do not underpower the driver, because underpowering and clipping is the most common cause of voice coil failure.
What is a shallow-mount subwoofer?
A shallow-mount subwoofer is engineered for a low mounting depth so it clears tight spaces where a standard sub will not fit, such as behind-seat and under-seat truck locations. It keeps the depth minimal while still moving real air, making it the right choice for trucks, powersports, and stealth installs.
What is the Proline X enclosure advantage?
Audio Intensity manufactures CNC-cut enclosures spec-matched to specific drivers in this collection. Internal volume, port tuning, and baffle dimensions are calculated from each driver's Thiele-Small parameters and cut to 0.005 inch tolerance in Tullahoma, Tennessee. No other retailer carrying these brands builds matched enclosures this way, so the subwoofer performs the way it was designed to rather than approximated in a generic box.
Are these new subwoofers with a manufacturer warranty?
Yes. Every subwoofer in this collection is brand new, sold by an authorized dealer, and carries the full manufacturer warranty. We are not a closeout or grey-market retailer. Closeout pricing applies only to specific clearly marked SKUs, typically previous-generation models being phased out.
