Wāvtech thinPRO12 – High-Performance Shallow-Mount Subwoofer
The Wāvtech thinPRO12 is a 12-inch shallow-mount subwoofer designed to deliver deep, powerful bass in space-limited installations. With an ultra-thin 3-inch mounting depth, it fits where traditional subwoofers cannot. Engineered for high excursion, durability, and efficiency, the thinPRO12 provides tight, impactful bass without compromising performance.
Compact Design with Maximum Performance
The thinPRO12 is built with aerospace-grade materials to maintain a lightweight yet rigid structure. Its honeycomb Nomex® and glass fiber cone minimize distortion while ensuring long-lasting durability. The nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) surround and dual NBR spiders support over 2 inches of peak-to-peak excursion, allowing it to perform like a larger subwoofer. A 5-inch, 4-layer voice coil on a vented polyimide composite former handles 750W RMS (2250W peak power), delivering clean, powerful bass. This subwoofer is designed to work efficiently in both sealed and ported enclosures, giving flexibility in tuning.
Optimized for Space-Limited Installations
With a 3-inch mounting depth, the thinPRO12 fits in tight spaces such as under-seats, behind panels, or in custom enclosures. The cast-aluminum basket provides a rigid foundation while maintaining a lightweight structure for secure mounting. Eight-gauge push terminals ensure a strong connection, reducing signal loss for better sound quality. The device adapts to different system requirements and is designed for both sealed and ported enclosures. The optional TP12G protective grille helps safeguard the subwoofer from damage in exposed installations.
Engineered for High-Power Handling
With its 750W RMS (2250W peak) power rating, the thinPRO12 is built to handle extreme conditions. The large voice coil and vented pole piece efficiently dissipate heat, preventing thermal overload during extended play. A custom suspension system allows the cone to move freely while maintaining stability at high excursion levels. The subwoofer's high power capability means it can handle deep bass frequencies without distortion, ensuring clarity at all volume levels. This makes it ideal for both daily drivers and competition-grade audio setups.
Versatile Enclosure Compatibility
The thinPRO12 is designed for both sealed and ported enclosures, providing flexibility for different bass preferences. A sealed enclosure between 0.4 to 1.0 cubic feet is recommended for tight, accurate bass. A ported enclosure between 0.8 to 1.5 cubic feet is ideal if higher output and deeper bass are preferred. The recommended tuning frequency for a ported box is 34Hz, ensuring deep and controlled low-end response. It integrates easily with various amplifier setups with both 2-ohm and 4-ohm configurations available.

Product Specifications
General Specifications | |
---|---|
Continuous Power Handling (RMS) Continuous Power Handling (RMS) refers to the amount of power a subwoofer can handle continuously, measured in watts. This ensures the subwoofer operates efficiently without distortion or damage during extended use, providing reliable performance.
Peak Power Handling Peak Power Handling is the maximum power a subwoofer can handle in short bursts, measured in watts, without damage. It represents the highest power level the subwoofer can manage for brief moments, unlike continuous RMS power.
Recommended Amplifier Power (RMS) Recommended Amplifier Power refers to the optimal power range, measured in watts, that a subwoofer should receive from an amplifier. This ensures the subwoofer performs efficiently without risking damage or distortion during use.
Frequency Response Frequency Response refers to the range of frequencies a subwoofer can reproduce, typically measured in Hertz (Hz). It shows the lowest and highest tones the subwoofer can effectively deliver, with wider ranges providing more detailed sound reproduction.
Voice Coil Size Voice Coil Size refers to the diameter of the voice coil in a subwoofer, typically measured in inches. It impacts the subwoofer’s power handling and performance, with larger voice coils generally allowing for more power and better heat dissipation.
Physical Specs | |
Overall Diameter Overall Diameter is the total outer measurement of a subwoofer, from one edge to the opposite edge, including the mounting frame. This dimension is important for ensuring the subwoofer fits correctly in the intended installation space.
Mounting Hole Diameter Mounting Hole Diameter refers to the size of the hole required to fit the subwoofer into an enclosure. This measurement ensures the subwoofer can be properly installed without gaps or fitment issues.
Bolt Hole Circle Diameter Bolt Hole Circle Diameter refers to the diameter of the circle passing through the centers of all mounting bolt holes on a subwoofer. It ensures proper alignment for securing the subwoofer to an enclosure or mounting surface.
Mounting Depth Mounting Depth refers to the distance from the mounting surface to the back of a subwoofer. It indicates how much space is needed for the subwoofer to fit properly in an enclosure or vehicle without obstructing other components.
Parameters | |
Free Air Resonance (Fs) Free Air Resonance (Fs) is the frequency at which a subwoofer's cone naturally vibrates without an enclosure, measured in Hertz (Hz). A lower Fs value indicates better low-frequency response, allowing the subwoofer to produce deeper bass.
Electrical “Q” (Qes) Electrical "Q" (Qes) measures the electrical damping of a subwoofer, primarily determined by the voice coil and magnet system. It influences how efficiently the subwoofer converts electrical power into motion, affecting its performance in different boxes.
Mechanical “Q” (Qms) Mechanical "Q" (Qms) measures the mechanical damping of a subwoofer, focusing on the suspension components like the surround and spider. A higher Qms indicates less mechanical resistance, affecting the subwoofer's efficiency and transient response.
Total Speaker “Q” (Qts) Total Speaker "Q" (Qts) is the overall damping factor of a subwoofer, combining mechanical (Qms) and electrical (Qes) properties. It helps determine how the subwoofer performs in different enclosure types, influencing sound quality and bass response.
Equivalent Compliance (Vas) Equivalent Compliance (Vas) represents the volume of air that has the same compliance (springiness) as the subwoofer's suspension. Measured in liters, it helps determine the ideal enclosure size for the subwoofer to achieve optimal performance.
One-Way Linear Excursion (Xmax) One-Way Linear Excursion (Xmax) is the maximum distance a subwoofer’s cone can move in one direction without distortion. Measured in millimeters (mm), it indicates how much air the subwoofer can displace, affecting its ability to produce deep bass.
Efficiency Efficiency refers to how effectively a subwoofer converts electrical power into sound. It is usually measured in decibels (dB) per watt at a 1-meter distance. A higher efficiency rating means the subwoofer can produce more sound with less power.
Effective Piston Area (Sd) Effective Piston Area (Sd) is the surface area of a subwoofer cone that moves air to create sound, measured in square centimeters (cm²). A larger Sd increases air displacement, resulting in stronger bass output.
Sealed Enclosure Specifications | |
Sealed Volume Sealed Volume refers to the internal air space within a sealed subwoofer enclosure. This volume is crucial for controlling the subwoofer’s movement and affects bass response. A properly calculated sealed volume results in tight, accurate bass.
Ported Enclosure Specifications | |
Ported Volume This is a net volume, which does not include speaker displacement or port displacement.
Tuning Frequency Tuning Frequency is the frequency at which a subwoofer enclosure is designed to resonate, maximizing bass output. It’s typically measured in Hertz (Hz) and is crucial for balancing deep bass response and loudness, particularly in ported enclosures.
