INSTALLER'S TAKE

The T1 Slim 10 is a genuine 3 inch deep driver with a 2.5 inch four-layer coil and 15 mm of one-way Xmax behind an anodized aluminum cone. This cabinet puts it 12 inches deep for the space under a rear bench.

Here is what you need to understand before you buy a box for it. Free-air Qts is 0.95 on the 1 ohm model and 1.04 on the 2 ohm. Qtc only falls toward Qts as the box grows, never below it, so no sealed enclosure in any car puts a T1 Slim at 0.707. Every box built for it is under-damped with a peak near the corner.

In 1.003 cubic feet net the T1S1-10 sits at Qtc 1.148 with F3 at 37.9 Hz, and the T1S2-10 at Qtc 1.257 with F3 at 38.2 Hz. The peak is what holds F3 that low. It reads as punch, which is exactly what Rockford built this driver to do in a thin box.

Height was solved to the airspace, with nearly 3 inches left above the motor. More volume is the only lever with this driver, so we did not trim it. Single voice coil, so whatever you buy is what the amp sees. Target 350 to 500 watts RMS.

The Down Fire Wide Format

Down Fire Wide answers a specific space problem. The floor under the rear seat of a truck or SUV, and many narrow cargo floors, is long and shallow, and a standard 30 by 15 inch enclosure will not go in it.

So the cabinet is turned sideways. This one runs 41 inches wide by 12 inches deep by 6.6875 inches tall, measured in the down fire position. Against our standard 30 by 15 inch T1 Slim 10 cabinet it takes the same driver, sits 3 inches shallower front to back and runs 11 inches longer. The airspace lost from the depth is recovered along the length, so the driver still gets a full size chamber rather than a compromised one.

Which one to choose. If you have 15 inches of depth, the standard 30 by 15 cabinet is the pick: it is shorter end to end and easier to place. Choose this one when depth is the limiting dimension and you have 41 inches of run. Measure the depth first; under seat spaces vary widely between cab configurations.

Performance, Performance Optimized, and Micro

Proline X builds three tiers of Down Fire enclosure. The difference is not finish or materials, it is whether the cabinet was designed for a category or for a driver, and how much of the fitting work is already done for you.

This page is a Performance Optimized enclosure. The cutout, the mounting depth and the chamber volume all come from the Rockford Fosgate T1 Slim 10's own numbers. A Performance box fits your subwoofer. A Performance Optimized box was built for it.

Built Around the Rockford Fosgate T1 Slim 10

The baffle is bored to the T1 Slim 10's 9.13 inch cutout, and the internal height starts from its 3.03 inch mounting depth. The frame is round and sits on the 12 inch deep baffle with material to spare.

The T1 Slim 10 ships as the T1S1-10 (1 ohm single voice coil) or the T1S2-10 (2 ohm single voice coil), both rated 500 watts RMS and 1,000 watts program, with 15 mm of one-way Xmax. A 2.5 inch four-layer voice coil sits behind an anodized aluminum cone with Rockford's VAST surface technology and an integrated trim ring. Both models share the same cutout, mounting depth and displacement, so this cabinet is direct fit for either impedance.

It is a genuinely shallow driver that moves real air, and it is built for high Q. Free-air Qts is 0.95 on the T1S1-10 and 1.04 on the T1S2-10, and that single fact shapes everything in the alignment section below.

Net Volume and Alignment

The chamber holds 1.003 cubic feet net, from 1.038 cubic feet gross after the driver's displacement and the internal brace. Alignment figures are computed from the loudspeakerdatabase.com Thiele-Small set for each model: Fs 42 Hz, Qts 0.95, Vas 13.1 liters on the T1S1-10, and Fs 43.5 Hz, Qts 1.04, Vas 13.1 liters on the T1S2-10.

Model System Qtc Fc F3, anechoic
T1S1-10, 1 ohm SVC Qtc 1.148 50.8 Hz 37.9 Hz
T1S2-10, 2 ohm SVC Qtc 1.257 52.6 Hz 38.2 Hz

Height is the free dimension. With the footprint fixed at 41 by 12, the cabinet height was solved to put the chamber on the same airspace as the standard 30 by 15 box, then rounded up to the next sixteenth so the volume lands on the target rather than under it. The motor clears the top panel with 2.9 inches to spare, so airspace set this height, not clearance.

Run the numbers on a different volume with our sealed box calculator.

True net, not marketing net. Internal volume is calculated from the machined cavity dimensions and the driver displacement, not estimated from external dimensions minus wall thickness. All figures are anechoic; firing down into the floor, the sealed rolloff meets rising cabin gain and in-car response extends below them.

A High-Q Alignment, Stated Honestly

Both coils land well above 1.0. That is an under-damped, punchy alignment: the response rises into a peak of roughly 2 dB on the T1S1-10 and roughly 3 dB on the T1S2-10 just above the corner frequency, then rolls off more steeply below it. The peak holds output up through the corner, which is why F3 sits well below Fc here. The low F3 comes from the peak, not from deep flat extension.

No sealed box in a car gets this driver to a textbook 0.707. System Qtc can only fall toward the driver's own Qts as the box grows, never below it, and Qts itself is already above 0.707 on both models. There is no sealed volume, at any size, that reaches it.

That is Rockford's design intent rather than a defect. The T1 Slim was built for thin prefab boxes, where the peak plus cabin gain reads as punch and impact and makes a shallow cabinet sound larger than it measures. Firing down into the floor, the peak sits where cabin gain is already climbing. The only lever left is volume, and more is better: a smaller box raises Qtc and sharpens the peak, which is why this cabinet carries the full 1.003 cubic feet.

Down Fire Wide Construction

Cut with V-groove and dado joinery on our ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite 3/4 inch MDF, a dense 48.5 lb/ft³ board with a 200 psi internal bond and 410,000 psi MOE. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks before adhesive is applied, which keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling. Corners are square on Down Fire cabinets.

The cabinet measures 41 inches wide by 12 inches deep by 6.6875 inches tall, measured in the down fire position. The 1.75 inch feet ship with the enclosure but are not installed, so plan the space around an installed height of 8.4375 inches if you use them.

1.5 Inch Double Baffle

Two 3/4 inch layers laminated to 1.5 inches, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so the driver bolts to the inner layer on 8/32 threaded inserts. Stainless machine screws included.

Windowed U-Brace

A windowed U-brace dadoed to the shell ties the long 41 inch panels together without closing off the chamber. Polyfill is installed as a light wall lining.

Side-Mounted Terminal Cup

One Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite cup with stainless hardware and copper ring terminals, side mounted and pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC, so it stays accessible with the baffle facing the floor.

Power and Wiring

Rockford rates both T1 Slim 10 models at 500 watts RMS continuous. Target 350 to 500 watts RMS.

Wiring is simple because both models are single voice coil, so there is no series or parallel decision at the driver. The impedance your amplifier sees is set by the model you buy: 1 ohm for the T1S1-10, 2 ohm for the T1S2-10. The enclosure ships with one side mounted terminal cup pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC; confirm your amplifier is stable at that load before powering the system.

The driver is purchased separately: bring your own T1S1-10 or T1S2-10, or order the current Gen-2 Rockford Fosgate T1S2-10S from us, which uses the same 9.13 inch cutout. The enclosure carries a 1 year limited warranty. Plush black carpet.

This enclosure holds 1.003 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Rockford Fosgate T1 Slim runs a system Qtc of 1.15–1.26 with half power at 37.9–38.2 Hz, and the cone reaches its 15.0 mm travel limit at 565 W, above the driver’s 500 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. A 25 Hz subsonic filter adds little here: 572 W against 565 W, 1 percent. The box already resonates at 51–53 Hz, so its own rolloff has removed most of what the filter would have stopped.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 37.2–40.0
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 T1S1-10 (1 ohm) 40.0 T1S2-10 (2 ohm) 37.2
T1S1-10 (1 ohm) · EBP 40.0T1S2-10 (2 ohm) · EBP 37.2
EBP under 50 means a motor that wants a sealed load. The T1 Slim sits at 37.2–40.0, inside that band, which is why this is a sealed build rather than a ported one.

02What the box does to it

1.003 cu ft against a 13.1 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 0.46  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 51–53 Hz  ·  Qtc = 1.15–1.26

The box lifts resonance from 42.0–43.5 Hz free-air to 51–53 Hz and half power lands at 37.9–38.2 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. This enclosure ships without a driver, so both coil variants the maker offers are plotted. They do not load the same box the same way.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 15.0 mm, and in this alignment a subsonic filter barely moves it.

PXmax = 565 W unfiltered  →  572–577 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 4 8 12 16 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 15.0 mm 565 W reaches Xmax here

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 15.0 mm. Unfiltered that is 565 W, reached first at 44 Hz. It sits above the 500 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct, and they sit almost on top of the solid ones: 572 W against 565 W. At 51–53 Hz the filter sits well below resonance, where the sealed alignment has already rolled the cone off at 12 dB/oct, so there is little wasted travel left for it to recover. Set it anyway to keep road rumble out of the cone, but do not size the amplifier around it.

Built From a Spec Sheet, Not a Sales Sheet

Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF, 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure, because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.

Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

Specifications

Langboard Elite MDF: Published Mill Data

Property Value Why It Matters
Panel Stock Langboard Elite MDF Named, verifiable panel source, not generic "high-density MDF"
Thickness 3/4" (18mm) Industry standard for subwoofer enclosures; panels below this flex under pressure
Density 48.5 lbs/ft³ Higher density = less porosity, better screw retention, reduced resonance
Internal Bond 200 psi Measures resistance to delamination under sustained internal pressure. The most enclosure-relevant spec on this sheet
Modulus of Rupture (MOR) 4,200 psi Bending strength before the panel breaks, relevant for larger unsupported baffle spans
Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) 410,000 psi Stiffness under load; higher MOE means less panel flex under bass pressure, less resonance
Face Screw Holding 325 lbs How firmly the panel surface holds a screw; critical for baffle joint integrity over time
Edge Screw Holding 250 lbs Panel edge retention, relevant for every joint that isn't face-to-face
Internal Bond

200 psi: The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures

The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually. The symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.

Stiffness

410,000 psi MOE: Less Flex, Less Resonance

The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness, its resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level, not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.

Screw Holding

325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge: Joints That Stay Locked

Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint, where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.

Sourcing

Named Panel Stock: Not "Premium MDF"

The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification. It is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec. You can look up Langboard Elite independently, verify the numbers on this page, and confirm you are getting what we say you are getting. That is the point.

Why Proline X?

Most enclosures are built to a price point. Proline X is built to a spec. Every box starts with published-data MDF, gets CNC-cut to exact internal volume, and is assembled by hand in our Tennessee facility. The difference shows up in the measurements, and in how the box holds up two years into daily use.
