INSTALLER'S TAKE

The P3 Shallow 10 is the sensible shallow. 300 watts RMS, 8.4mm of one-way Xmax, a 2.5 inch four-layer coil, and a 3.50 inch mounting depth. It is not trying to be a competition driver and it does not pretend to be. What it does is deliver clean, accurate bass out of a space that will not accept a real box.

If you have looked at the T1 Slim, this is the more accurate driver of the two. Free-air Qts is 0.64 on the D2 and 0.78 on the D4, against 0.95 and 1.05 on the T1. That difference is why this one lands near a flat alignment while the T1 cannot get there at all. If accuracy matters more to you than raw impact, the P3 Shallow is the better choice.

At 0.92 net the D2 coil sits at Qtc 0.795 with F3 at 44.9 Hz. That is genuinely close to flat and it is the cleanest, most controlled presentation available in this format. The D4 lands at Qtc 0.797 with F3 at 44.8 Hz, which trades damping for a lift at the corner and about 5 Hz more extension. Both are legitimate. The D2 is for people who want it right, the D4 for people who want it to hit.

One honest note on the D2: with a 0.64 Qts you could technically reach a textbook 0.707 alignment, but the math calls for about 2.27 cubic feet net. That is a full-size trunk box, not a shallow cabinet, and building it would defeat the entire point of buying a 3.5 inch deep driver. 0.92 net is as close to flat as this format sensibly goes.

Worth knowing if you compare our numbers to the manual: Rockford calculates Qtc on gross volume without subtracting driver displacement. Their published 0.90 for the 10 inch checks out exactly at 0.50 gross with the D2 coil. We subtract the driver, which is the more conservative method, so our figures read slightly higher. Same driver, same box math, different convention.

Both models are dual voice coil, so you set your final impedance by how you wire the coils at the driver. Target 200 to 300 watts RMS.

Performance, Performance Optimized, and Micro

Proline X builds three tiers of Down Fire enclosure. The difference is not finish or materials, it is whether the cabinet was designed for a category or for a driver, and how much of the fitting work is already done for you.

Feet ship with every tier, uninstalled on purpose. Mount them where your floor wants them for a down fire install, or leave them off and run the cabinet front firing or up firing. The orientation is yours to choose.

This page is a Performance Optimized enclosure. The airspace, the cutout and the cabinet height all come from the Rockford Fosgate Punch P3 Shallow 10's own published numbers. A Performance box fits your subwoofer. A Performance Optimized box was built for it.

Built Around the Rockford Fosgate Punch P3 Shallow 10

Nothing about this cabinet is generic. The baffle is bored to the P3 Shallow 10's 9.06 inch cutout, the internal height is set by its 3.50 inch mounting depth, and the volume is built to the top of Rockford's published sealed range for the driver.

The P3 Shallow 10 comes as the P3SD2-10 (dual 2Ω) or the P3SD4-10 (dual 4Ω), both rated 300 watts RMS with 8.4mm of one-way Xmax. A 2.5 inch four-layer voice coil sits behind an anodized aluminum cone with Rockford's VAST surface technology, and the driver ships with a painted aluminum trim ring. Both models share the same 9.06 inch cutout, 3.50 inch depth and 0.074 cubic foot displacement, so this cabinet is direct fit for either impedance.

At 6.875 inches tall on a 30 by 15 inch footprint this is the shortest cabinet in the Down Fire line, and it fits under rear seats and in cargo wells that will not take a conventional box. Every external dimension is stated as measured in the down fire position.

Net Volume, Not Gross

We build this cabinet at 0.92 cubic feet net, from 0.99 gross, with the driver's published 0.074 cubic feet of displacement subtracted. That lands at the top of Rockford's published sealed range for the P3 Shallow 10. Rockford calculates Qtc on gross volume without subtracting the driver, so our figures read slightly higher than theirs against the same box. Same driver, same math, more conservative convention.

True net, not marketing net. Internal volume is calculated from the machined cavity dimensions and the driver's published displacement, not estimated from external dimensions minus wall thickness.

The two coil options behave differently enough here to be worth understanding. The P3SD2-10 has a free-air Qts of 0.64 and lands at Qtc 0.795 with F3 at 44.9 Hz, close to a flat alignment and the more controlled, accurate presentation. The P3SD4-10 has a Qts of 0.78 and lands at Qtc 0.797 with F3 at 44.8 Hz, trading some damping for a lift near the corner frequency and roughly 5 Hz more extension. Neither is wrong: the D2 is the choice for accuracy, the D4 for impact.

Down Firing Into Rising Cabin Gain

The figures above are anechoic. In a vehicle the sealed rolloff meets rising cabin gain below 60 Hz, so in-car response extends well below the published F3. Firing the cone down into the floor couples the driver to the largest flat surface in the vehicle and puts the output into the cabin where that gain is already working.

The P3 Shallow is the more accurate of Rockford's two shallow families. Free-air Qts here is 0.64 to 0.78, against 0.95 to 1.05 on the T1 Slim, and that difference is why this driver lands near a flat alignment while the T1 cannot reach one at all. The T1 Slim carries more power and hits harder. The P3 Shallow is the choice when accuracy matters more than raw output.

Down Fire Construction

Cut with V-groove and dado joinery on our ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite 3/4 inch MDF, a dense 48.5 lb/ft³ board with a 200 psi internal bond and 410,000 psi MOE. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks before adhesive is applied, which keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling. Corners are square on Down Fire cabinets.

Double Baffle, Flush Recess

The front baffle is 1.5 inches, two bonded 3/4 inch sheets, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so the driver bolts to the inner layer. That recovers 3/4 inch of internal clearance.

Side-Mounted Terminal Cup

Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite cup with stainless hardware and copper ring terminals, pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC. Side mounted so it stays accessible with the baffle facing the floor.

Perimeter Cross-Brace

Cross-bracing ties the long panel spans on a 30 by 15 inch footprint, and polyfill is pre-installed. The driver lands on 8/32 threaded inserts with stainless steel machine screws included.

Power and Warranty

Rockford rates both P3 Shallow 10 models at 300 watts RMS continuous. Target 200 to 300 watts RMS. Both models are dual voice coil, so you set your final impedance by how you wire the coils at the driver. The enclosure ships with one side mounted terminal cup; confirm your amplifier is stable at the load you wire before powering the system.

The enclosure carries a 1 year limited warranty. Bring your own P3SD2-10 or P3SD4-10; the driver is purchased separately.

This enclosure holds 0.92 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-10 runs a system Qtc of 0.80 with half power at 44.8 Hz, and the cone reaches its 8.4 mm travel limit at 160 W, below the driver’s 300 W thermal rating, so travel is what stops you here, not heat. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 185 W — +25 W, or 16 percent more power for the same 8.4 mm of travel.

At 56.3 the P3SD2-10 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 8.4 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 8.4 mm. Unfiltered that is 160 W, reached first at 23 Hz. It sits under the 300 W the driver can take thermally, so the enclosure sets the ceiling, not the voice coil. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 185 W before hitting the same 8.4 mm. That is 16 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Built From a Spec Sheet, Not a Sales Sheet

Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF, 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure, because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.

Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

200 psi: The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures

The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually. The symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.

Stiffness

410,000 psi MOE: Less Flex, Less Resonance

The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness, its resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level, not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.

Screw Holding

325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge: Joints That Stay Locked

Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint, where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.

Named Panel Stock: Not "Premium MDF"

The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification. It is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec. You can look up Langboard Elite independently, verify the numbers on this page, and confirm you are getting what we say you are getting. That is the point.
