What You Are Buying

A two-way 6.5 inch component set: two woofers, two pivoting 20mm textile domes, two passive crossovers, and the mounting hardware. From a discontinued Xcelsus line, and we are not restocking it.

The design brief here was different from most component sets, and it shows in three numbers: 63mm depth, 89dB sensitivity, and a 60W RMS rating. Taken together those say this was built to replace factory speakers in a factory system, not to be the front end of a competition build.

Read this before you buy

Final sale. No returns, no exchanges, no manufacturer warranty. Discontinued model with no replacement pipeline, so a failed driver cannot be matched.

The Crossover Is the Interesting Part

Xcelsus publishes the crossover as 6dB on the tweeter and no filter on the woofer. That is unusual and it has real consequences, both good and bad.

No filter on the woofer

The woofer runs without a network above it. Where it stops is decided by cone breakup and voice coil inductance, not by a capacitor and coil. That preserves whatever the head unit is sending, which is the point on a factory system where the deck is doing its own equalisation. It also means the cone material is doing the crossover's job, which is why a mica-filled polypropylene cone matters here more than it would in a set with a proper low-pass.

6dB on the tweeter

First order, the gentlest slope there is. It keeps the woofer and tweeter in phase through the handover, which is why the transition sounds seamless. The cost is protection: a first-order filter at 5500Hz still lets a lot of energy below the crossover reach the tweeter. That is a large part of why the set is rated 60W RMS and not 100W. The rating is honest about what the network allows, not conservative for the sake of it.

5500Hz crossover point

High. Most 6.5 inch two-ways hand over between 2500 and 3500Hz. At 5500Hz the woofer carries well into the presence region, where a 165mm cone starts to beam and its off-axis response narrows. In a car, where nothing is aimed at you, that produces a forward midrange and a top end that stays out of the way. The pivoting tweeter exists partly to claw some of that back.

Aim the tweeters

The pivot is not decoration. With a 5500Hz crossover the tweeter is only handling the top two octaves, so where it points changes the character more than it would on a set crossed at 3000Hz. Aim each tweeter at the opposite headrest rather than straight at the near listener.

Reading the Specification

89dB sensitivity, 60W RMS

These belong together. 89dB is enough to work on a factory head unit at 15 to 22W per channel, which is what this set was designed around. 60W RMS is the ceiling, and it is a real ceiling given the first-order tweeter filter. A 50 to 75W amplifier is a sensible upgrade. A 100W amplifier is not, and no amount of careful gain setting makes it one.

55Hz to 20,000Hz

Good lower reach for a 6.5 inch door driver. It will still want a subwoofer under it, but it does more of the midbass on its own than most sets in this power class.

Mica-filled polypropylene, 75mm magnet

Mica loading stiffens polypropylene and pushes its breakup mode higher and softer. On a woofer with no low-pass filter, that is not a marketing material, it is the crossover.

Fitment

  • 145mm / 5.75 inch mounting hole. Check this against your cutout, not the 6.5 inch nominal size.
  • 63mm / 2.56 inch mounting depth. Shallow for a component woofer, and the reason this set fits factory doors that reject deeper drivers.
  • 4 Ohm. Matches factory amplifier expectations without adaptation.
  • Tweeters pivot and mount at dash, A-pillar, sail panel or upper door.
  • Mounting hardware, grilles, spacers and tweeter mounts are included.

Who This Suits

Buy these if

  • You are replacing factory speakers and keeping the factory head unit.
  • Your doors are shallow and deeper component woofers will not fit.
  • You want a tweeter you can aim.
  • You accept a final sale on a discontinued product with no warranty path.

Look elsewhere if

  • You have a 100W per channel amplifier. 60W RMS with a first-order tweeter filter is the limit.
  • You want an airy, detailed top end. A 5500Hz first-order handover is not the way there.
  • You want the woofer band-limited by the crossover rather than by the cone.
  • You want warranty coverage or the option to return.

Installation

  • Test-fit the woofer dry, window up and window down, before wiring.
  • Mount the crossovers inside the door above the drain line, or under the dash. Secure them with foam tape or ties rather than screwing into door metal, which creates a rattle you will chase for weeks.
  • Amplifier or head unit into the crossover input, crossover outputs to woofer and tweeter. Never feed the tweeter directly; a first-order filter is the only thing between it and full power.
  • Deaden the outer door skin and seal the inner skin. On a set with this much midbass capability, the door is the limiting factor.
  • Set the tweeter aim before the trim goes back on.
