INSTALLER'S TAKE

The Driv 650 is the woofer you reach for when the build has a real space problem. 121mm mounting depth and a 162mm cutout means it fits in doors, kicks, and underseat boxes that rule out anything in the 8-inch class. The Qts of 0.60 (D2) to 0.70 (D4) tells you this driver likes a small sealed box or a modest ported alignment — it's not trying to be a free-air or IB driver. Sealed in 0.25–0.35 cu ft gives you tight, controlled output that works well in SQ builds. Ported in 0.4–0.5 cu ft tuned around 42–46 Hz will give you noticeably more output and low-end extension if the enclosure space allows it. The carbon overlay cone is real — you can see and feel the weave. It keeps the cone from going soft at the top of its travel, which matters when you're running 300+ watts into a 6.5. Coil runs cool for its size. Terminal posts are solid. This is a legitimate daily driver in a package that actually fits where you need it.

Real Output. Compact Footprint.

The Proline X Driv 650 is a 6.5-inch subwoofer engineered for builds where space is limited but output expectations aren't. At 400 watts RMS and just 121mm of mounting depth, it slots into door pods, custom kick panels, underseat enclosures, and tight trunk builds that would reject anything larger — without asking you to give up excursion, motor strength, or cone integrity.

This is a purpose-built subwoofer driver. The 42.5mm, 4-layer voice coil, the φ134×40mm ferrite motor, and 12mm of linear Xmax are all overspec for a 6.5-inch platform at this price point. That is exactly the point.

The Cone: Paper Substrate, Carbon Fiber Overlay

Most manufacturers cut corners on the cone at this price. The Driv 650 uses a paper substrate with a carbon fiber overlay — a construction method that combines paper's natural damping characteristics with the rigidity and mass control of composite material.

Paper delivers the internal damping that SQ-oriented builders have relied on for decades. The carbon overlay adds rigidity across the cone surface, resisting the breakup modes that cause distortion at high excursion. The combination produces a piston that moves predictably through the full 12mm Xmax stroke — no flex, no breakup, no harmonic distortion spike at the top of travel.

Why the Overlay Matters

Paper alone at 300+ watts into a 6.5-inch driver will begin to deviate from pistonic behavior as the cone surface flexes under load. The breakup introduces harmonic distortion that shows up as congestion and harshness in the bass — audible long before mechanical failure.

The carbon fiber overlay raises the breakup threshold significantly without replacing the paper's natural damping properties. The result is a cone that behaves like a rigid piston through the driver's full operating range — accurate at moderate power, composed at full rated output.

42.5mm 4-Layer CCAW Voice Coil

Copper-clad aluminum wire wound in four layers on an aluminum former. CCAW reduces moving mass versus pure copper while maintaining conductivity, improving transient response. The aluminum former dissipates heat faster than Kapton, extending the coil's sustained power capacity under real-world listening conditions.

φ134×40mm Ferrite Motor

A substantial magnetic structure for a 6.5-inch driver. BL of 13.6 T·m (D2) and 16.65 T·m (D4) provides the motor authority to keep the coil controlled through the full Xmax range — not just at moderate excursion levels where most drivers perform adequately.

12mm Linear Xmax

12mm of one-way linear excursion in a 6.5-inch driver is a meaningful specification. It means the coil remains in the linear portion of the magnetic field through the full stroke range, which keeps distortion low and output clean at the upper end of the driver's power handling.

Cast Aluminum Basket

The basket maintains spider and surround geometry under high mechanical stress. Combined with the polypropylene spider and rubber surround, the suspension system is calibrated for controlled return — the Driv 650 is tuned to play accurately, not just move a lot of air.

Enclosure Recommendations

The Driv 650's Qts of 0.60 (D2) to 0.70 (D4) makes it well suited to both sealed and modest ported alignments. It is not a free-air or IB driver — it performs best in a purpose-built enclosure sized to its parameters.

Sealed — 0.25 to 0.35 ft³ Net

Tight, accurate bass with excellent transient response. The preferred alignment for SQ builds, musical daily drivers, and any install where accuracy matters more than maximum output. The Driv 650's natural damping characteristics shine in a well-built sealed enclosure.

Ported — 0.4 to 0.5 ft³ Net, 42–46 Hz

Noticeably more low-frequency output and extension compared to sealed, with a manageable enclosure footprint. Recommended for builds where volume is available and output is the primary objective. Avoid tuning below 38 Hz — the driver's Fs and Vas are not optimized for very low tuning alignments.

1-Year Warranty

Every Proline X Driv 650 carries a 1-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. Contact Audio Intensity directly — no third-party claims process.

Impedance Configurations

The Driv 650 is available in dual 2-ohm (D2) and dual 4-ohm (D4) configurations. Both variants share an identical mechanical platform — same basket, cone, magnet, and motor geometry. The only difference is voice coil winding impedance.

D4 — Dual 4-Ohm (Default)

Wires to a 2-ohm mono load when both coils are paralleled — the standard configuration for most monoblock amplifiers. The most common daily driver pairing. BL of 16.65 T·m gives the D4 slightly higher motor authority than the D2.

D2 — Dual 2-Ohm

Wires to a 1-ohm mono load when paralleled, for amplifiers specifically rated at 1 ohm. Can also run each coil independently on a 2-channel amplifier at 2 ohms per side. Choose D2 for 1-ohm rated amplifiers or bridged multi-channel builds.

The Driv 650. Built for the Build That Has No Room for Compromise.

Both variants land in the 80–90 EBP range. At EBP above 80, ported is the stronger primary alignment. The Qts of 0.60–0.70 makes a well-built sealed box a solid secondary option for space-constrained installs or SQ-focused builds, but the numbers point to ported first.

Recommended alignments

Enclosure Specifications

Primary recommendation listed first. All volumes are net internal airspace after driver displacement and bracing.

Sealed Secondary
Net volume0.25 – 0.35 ft³
TuningN/A — sealed
Qtc target0.65 – 0.75
F3 estimate~70 – 80 Hz
CharacterTight, accurate, fast

Build notes

0.30 ft³ net is the sweet spot for both variants — targets Qtc ≈ 0.70, the flattest sealed response for this Qts range.

Driver displacement is approximately 0.025 ft³ — account for this when calculating gross internal volume.

Polyfill recommended at 0.5 – 0.75 lb/ft³ — effectively increases acoustic volume 10–15% and improves low-end extension in small sealed boxes.

Minimum baffle thickness: 0.75". Double-layer (1.5") recommended for any install where the enclosure is exposed to impact or vibration.

Cutout diameter: 162mm (6.38"). Verify 121mm of rear clearance behind the baffle before cutting.

Ported Primary
Net volume0.40 – 0.50 ft³
Port tuning42 – 46 Hz
Port typeSlot or round
F3 estimate~40 – 45 Hz
CharacterExtended, higher output

Build notes

0.45 ft³ net tuned to 44 Hz is the recommended center-point. Use a port calculator to verify length for your chosen port diameter.

Minimum port area: 8 – 10 in² for a 6.5" driver at 400W RMS. Undersized ports chuff at high power — size up if in doubt.

Do not tune below 38 Hz. The Driv 650's Fs and Vas are not optimized for very low tuning alignments — output below port tuning drops sharply and excursion rises.

Port length will be short given the small box volume — verify the port fits geometrically before finalizing dimensions. An L-shaped or folded port may be required.

Ported enclosures offer less excursion protection below tuning. Use a subsonic filter set 10 Hz below tuning frequency.

Why Proline X Driv

Most drivers are selected by gut feel. We selected the Driv series the same way we select MDF — by the numbers. After decades of building enclosures, we know exactly what a subwoofer needs to perform inside one. The Driv series is what happens when the people who build the box start speccing the driver.

Enclosure-Informed Engineering

Enclosure-Informed Engineering

We don't just sell drivers — we build what they live in. Every Driv spec was evaluated against real-world enclosure alignments, not just a data sheet. The result is a driver tuned to perform in the builds we know.

Tested Against Our Own Standard

Tested Against Our Own Standard

Proline X enclosures are built to published specs with no shortcuts. We held the Driv series to the same standard — measured T/S parameters, verified excursion, confirmed power handling before a single unit carried our name.

Backed by the Brand That Built the Box

Backed by the Brand That Built the Box

The Driv series carries the Proline X name — the same name on enclosures running daily in builds across the country. That's not a marketing claim. That's accountability.
