Cicada CH69.4 6x9 Inch Coaxial Horn Speakers

Compression horn on a die-cast aluminum basket. 95dB, 250W RMS, 75Hz to 20kHz, 4 Ohm, all-weather construction with a 36mm aluminum tweeter and a 64mm midbass coil.

  • All-weather

What You Are Buying

A pair of 6x9 coaxial horn speakers with external crossovers, built for open-air use: powersports, marine, bar tops, anywhere the speaker is exposed and has to be loud.

This is not a car door speaker with a weather claim bolted on. The design starts from the horn and works back: a horn-loaded aluminum tweeter, a die-cast aluminum basket, a water-resistant treated paper cone, and a removable threaded horn ring so the horn itself can be swapped.

Read this before you buy

Final sale. No returns, no exchanges, no manufacturer warranty. Also worth saying plainly: a horn is a specific tool. Put these in a car door expecting a refined front stage and you will not like them.

Reading the Specification

95dB sensitivity

This is the whole point of a horn. 95dB is roughly 8dB above a normal 6x9, which means these produce the same output on a quarter of the power. On an open boat or a UTV, where there are no walls to reflect anything back at you and the engine and wind are already loud, that 8dB is the difference between hearing your music and watching a speaker move.

250W RMS, 500W maximum

High for a 6x9, and combined with 95dB it puts the ceiling somewhere most systems will never reach. Practically you will be limited by your amplifier and your ears long before the driver is.

75Hz to 20kHz, plus or minus 3dB

Note that this is a tolerance-bounded figure, which is more honest than the unqualified ranges most manufacturers print. 75Hz is where useful output stops. In open air, with no cabin gain to help, you want a subwoofer below that.

Aluminum tweeter dome, 36mm coil

Aluminum is bright and efficient, which is what a horn wants. It is also unforgiving of a harsh source. The external crossover includes a minus 3dB and minus 6dB attenuator on a heat-sinked resistor, and on most installs you will end up using it. That is not a defect, it is the adjustment being there because the designer knew you would need it.

64mm midbass voice coil

A 2.5 inch coil on a 6x9 is large. Coil area is thermal capacity, and thermal capacity is what lets a driver sit at high power in the sun without compressing.

Use the attenuator

Start at minus 3dB. An aluminum dome on a horn measures flat and sounds forward, particularly at close range on a boat deck or a bar top. If it still sounds hot, go to minus 6dB. Turning down a tweeter costs you nothing you will miss.

Fitment

  • 155mm x 226mm / 6.6 x 9.3 inch mounting diameter. Check this against your cutout; a horn assembly is not forgiving of a tight hole.
  • 93mm / 3.7 inch mounting depth. Deep. This is the specification that decides whether the job happens.
  • 4 Ohm. Cicada also built a 2 Ohm version of this model. This listing is the 4 Ohm.
  • External crossovers need a mounting location. On an open-air install, that means somewhere dry.

Who This Suits

Buy these if

  • The speaker is exposed to weather and has to compete with engine and wind noise.
  • You have limited amplifier power and need every decibel of it.
  • You have 93mm of depth and a 6x9 cutout.
  • You accept a final sale on closeout stock.

Look elsewhere if

  • This is a front stage in a car and you care about imaging and refinement.
  • Your depth is under 93mm.
  • You want deep bass. 75Hz is the floor, and outdoors there is no cabin gain.
  • Your source is compressed streaming audio. A horn shows you everything.

Installation

  • Verify both cutout dimensions and the 93mm depth before you cut anything.
  • Mount the crossovers somewhere they will stay dry, and secure them properly. Vibration on a UTV or a boat destroys anything that is only cable-tied.
  • Amplifier into the crossover input, crossover outputs to the driver. Set the attenuator before you close the panel; reaching it later is a job.
  • High-pass at 80Hz or above. Below that you are only heating the coil.
  • The horn ring is threaded and removable. Do not lose it, and do not run the driver without it.

Condition and sale terms
