INSTALLER'S TAKE

The NB5-15 is a serious motor — 27.33 Tm BL (D2), 280 ounces of ferrite, 2.75" flat aluminum voice coil, 27mm one-way Xmax, 1200W RMS. It needs an enclosure sized for what it actually does. This box delivers 3.0 cu ft net ported at 33Hz with 48 sq in of port area. The port area is the number most builders cut corners on with a 15" at this volume — 48 sq in keeps air velocity manageable at 1200W and eliminates chuffing at sustained output.

Baffle is 2.25" triple-layer — three full sheets of Langboard Elite bonded and cut as one unit. Heaviest baffle in the Professional Series lineup. Threaded inserts through the baffle, 8/32 machine screws, metal-to-metal throughout. Single terminal cup, pre-wired 12g OFC to your selected impedance.

Front panel has Prodigy Audio logo acrylic inserts — laser-cut in-house. This is a finished build, not a plain carpet box.

Box is 32" × 17" H × 19.5" D external. The 19.5" depth is the critical dimension — this is a dedicated trunk build. Verify depth clearance before ordering. Enclosure-only ships at ~65 lbs. Bundle with the NB5-15 ships at ~110 lbs.

The Prodigy NB5-15 Finally Has the Enclosure It Deserves

The Prodigy Audio NB5-15 is a 1200-watt 15" driver with 27mm of one-way Xmax, 280 ounces of ferrite motor, and a 2.75" flat aluminum voice coil — a purpose-built high-output driver that demands an enclosure engineered to match. This box is spec'd to 3.0 cu ft net, tuned to 33Hz with 48 sq in of port area, and built with a 2.25" triple-layer baffle that can take everything this motor delivers. Available as enclosure only or bundled with the Prodigy Audio NB5-15 — select your variant above.

Built to the Driver's Numbers — Not a Generic Template

The NB5-15 has a Qts of 0.485 (D2) to 0.536 (D4) and an Fs of 35–36Hz — parameters that sit right at the ported alignment threshold. At 3.0 cu ft tuned to 33Hz, the enclosure volume gives the driver the breathing room its Vas of 43–47L requires, and the 33Hz tuning sits just below the driver's resonant frequency to prioritize low-frequency extension and output smoothness over a peaked SPL curve. The 48 sq in port area is sized to handle the air displacement a 27mm Xmax driver generates at 1200W without port compression or chuffing at sustained output.

This is not a shelf-friendly universal 15" enclosure. Every dimension — volume, tuning, port area — was calculated around the NB5-15's published Thiele-Small parameters. The result is a driver operating in its intended acoustic environment, not fighting an enclosure that was designed for a different motor.

The front panel features Prodigy Audio logo acrylic inserts — laser-cut in-house on our Full Spectrum Pro48 CO2 laser. The branding is part of the build, not an afterthought — a finished panel that matches the quality of the enclosure behind it.

2.25" Triple-Layer Baffle — The Heaviest Baffle in the Proline X Lineup

Three full sheets of Langboard Elite 3/4" MDF bonded and CNC-cut as a single 2.25" unit. The NB5-15 carries a BL factor of 27.33 Tm (D2) — among the highest in any 15" driver in this power class — and generates serious sustained baffle load at 1200W RMS with 27mm of one-way cone travel. The triple-layer baffle eliminates flex as a variable entirely. The driver sits rigid against a surface that doesn't move, doesn't compress, and doesn't introduce its own resonance into the output.

Threaded inserts are installed through the baffle matched to the NB5-15's bolt pattern. 8/32 machine screws thread metal-to-metal — not into MDF. The driver stays clamped and torqued regardless of sustained output level or how many times it gets remounted.

Dado + V-Groove Joinery | Extensive Internal Bracing

At 32" wide and 19.5" deep, this is a large enclosure running a high-force motor at serious power. Every panel joint is CNC-cut to interlock — dado joints recess each panel into its mating surface, V-groove cuts at panel edges create a mechanical lock independent of adhesive. Extensive internal bracing ties opposing walls and spans the long panel runs across the enclosure's width and depth. At 3.0 cu ft ported with a 1200W driver, panel integrity is not optional — it is what keeps the port geometry stable, the airspace constant, and the output accurate.

Wiring Options — D2 and D4

The NB5-15 is available in Dual 2-ohm (D2) and Dual 4-ohm (D4). A single driver wires as follows:

D2 — voice coils parallel → 1Ω final load. Voice coils in series → 4Ω final load.

D4 — voice coils parallel → 2Ω final load. Voice coils in series → 8Ω final load.

The most common configurations for a single high-current amp are 1Ω (D2 parallel) and 2Ω (D4 parallel). Match to your amplifier's stable impedance rating before selecting a variant. The NB5-15 is rated for 1200W RMS — pair with an amplifier capable of delivering that power at your chosen impedance.

With 27mm of one-way Xmax at 70% BL, 1200 watts RMS power handling, and a BL factor of 27.33 Tm on the D2 variant, the NB5-15 produces the kind of sustained high-output bass that its 280-ounce ferrite motor and 2.75" flat aluminum voice coil were designed to deliver. Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF — 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure — because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.

Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

200 psi — The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures

The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually — the symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.

Stiffness

410,000 psi MOE — Less Flex, Less Resonance

The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness — resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level — not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.

Screw Holding

325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge — Joints That Stay Locked

Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint — where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.
