INSTALLER'S TAKE

Measure the installed height, not the cabinet height. The box is 8.625 tall on its own and the feet add 1.75, so plan around 10.375 inches on the 41 by 14 footprint.

Height was solved to the airspace: 8.625 tall holds 1.676 net, against 1.66 in the standard box, and the motor clears the lid with 1.92 inches to spare. Same air, lower box.

The SC122 lands at Qtc 0.705, right on Butterworth; the 4 ohm SC124 rides along at Qtc 0.618.

Morel's spec sheet and Morel's 2016 manual disagree on this driver. The sheet's numbers reproduce their own moving mass; the manual's do not, so the sheet is what this cabinet is built to. Polyfill is already in as a wall lining; do not add more.

Measure installed height, not cabinet height: 8.625 on its own, 10.375 with the 1.75 inch feet on. The standard 30 by 15 is still the pick if you do not have 41 inches of run.

The Down Fire Wide Format

Down Fire Wide is the Performance Optimized answer to a space that is long rather than deep or tall. This cabinet runs 41 inches wide by 14 inches deep by 8.625 inches tall: 1 inch shallower front to back than our standard 30 by 15 inch Down Fire platform, and 11 inches longer.

Fourteen inches is the practical minimum for a 12 inch driver: a 12 inch frame needs about 13 inches of baffle. The SC122 / SC124's 12 inch frame sits on the 14 inch deep baffle with about 1.00 inch of baffle outside the flange fore and aft. Because the airspace is spread along 41 inches instead of 30, the wide cabinet usually stands lower than the standard box, and it does here: 8.625 inches against 10.44 inches for the standard 30 by 15 SC122 / SC124 cabinet.

With the footprint fixed at 41 by 14, height is the free dimension, and it was solved to the airspace: 1.676 cubic feet net, against 1.66 in the standard box. The motor clears the top panel with 1.92 inches to spare, so clearance did not set the height.

Which one to choose. The standard 30 by 15 is the pick when length is limited. This one is the pick when height or depth is the limit and you have 41 inches of run: under or behind a rear bench, or along a cargo wall. Measure depth and height first; depth is usually the dimension that decides it.

Performance, Performance Optimized, and Micro

Proline X builds three tiers of Down Fire enclosure. The difference is not finish or materials, it is whether the cabinet was designed for a category or for a driver, and how much of the fitting work is already done for you.

This page is a Performance Optimized enclosure. The cutout, the mounting depth and the chamber volume all come from the Morel Ultimo Ti SC122 / SC124's own numbers. A Performance box fits your subwoofer. A Performance Optimized box was built for it.

Built Around the Morel Ultimo Ti SC122 / SC124

The baffle is bored to the Ultimo Titanium SC 12's 10.35 inch cutout, 263 mm to Morel's sheet, and the threaded inserts are pressed to Morel's 11.50 in bolt circle.

The Ultimo Titanium SC is Morel's 12 inch on a titanium voice coil former and a 5.1 inch Hexatech aluminium coil, rated 600 watts RMS and 2000 watts transient, 5.96 inches deep on a 12 inch frame, 9.5 mm of excursion each way. It ships as the SC122 (2 ohm) and the SC124 (4 ohm). Every figure comes from Morel's current Ultimo Titanium SC specification sheet; Morel's older printed manual carries a different parameter set that is not used here.

Net Volume, Not Gross

We build this cabinet at 1.676 cubic feet net from 1.775 gross, after the internal brace and Morel's published 2.6 liter, 0.09 cubic feet of displacement are accounted for.

True net, not marketing net. Internal volume is calculated from the machined cavity dimensions and the driver's displacement, not estimated from external dimensions minus wall thickness.

Morel measures the two coils separately and publishes a different parameter set for each: the SC122 at Fs 27.51 Hz, Qts 0.45 and Vas 68.86 liters, the SC124 at Fs 28.0 Hz, Qts 0.41 and Vas 60.29 liters.

Predicted alignment, 1.676 cubic feet net
Coil System Qtc Fc F3
SC122, 2 ohm Qtc 0.705 43.1 Hz 43.2 Hz
SC124, 4 ohm Qtc 0.618 42.2 Hz 49.1 Hz

The SC122 lands within a few thousandths of the 0.707 maximally flat reference, and the SC124 sits a little more damped in the same airspace. One cabinet serves both coils because it is sized to the coil that asks for the larger box.

These figures are anechoic. Firing down into the floor, the sealed rolloff meets rising cabin gain below about 60 Hz, so in-car response extends below the published F3.

Down Fire Wide Construction

Cut with V-groove and dado joinery on our ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite 3/4 inch MDF, a dense 48.5 lb/ft³ board with a 200 psi internal bond and 410,000 psi MOE. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks before adhesive is applied, which keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling. Corners are square on Down Fire cabinets.

The cabinet measures 41 inches wide by 14 inches deep by 8.625 inches tall, measured in the down fire position, excluding the feet. The 1.75 inch standoffs ship with the enclosure but are not installed, so the installed height is 10.375 inches. Plan the space around that figure.

1.5 Inch Double Baffle

Two 3/4 inch layers laminated to 1.5 inches, the outer layer machined as a flush recess so the driver bolts to the inner layer, with threaded inserts pressed to Morel's 11.50 in bolt circle and stainless machine screws included.

Round Frame, 14 Inch Baffle

The 10.35 inch cutout sits centred on the 14 inch deep baffle, leaving about 1.00 inch of baffle outside the flange fore and aft. No rotation or special layout is needed for a round frame.

Windowed U-Brace

A windowed U-brace dadoed into the shell stiffens the long 41 inch panels without walling off the airspace. Polyfill is installed as a light wall lining.

Side-Mounted Terminal Cup

Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite cup with stainless hardware and copper ring terminals, pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC. Side mounted so it stays accessible with the baffle facing the floor.

Power and Wiring

Morel rates the Ultimo Titanium SC at 600 watts RMS and 2000 watts transient, so target 420 to 600 watts RMS. Both coils are single voice coil drivers: the SC122 is a nominal 2 ohm load (1.3 ohm DC), the SC124 a nominal 4 ohm load (3.0 ohm DC). Confirm the load against your amplifier's minimum stable impedance before powering the system.

Morel does not publish a position on down firing this driver, and this cabinet makes no claim on their behalf. The feet ship uninstalled, so front or up firing is an install-time choice.

Bring your own Morel Ultimo Ti SC122 or SC124; the driver is purchased separately. The enclosure carries a 1 year limited warranty.

Cut for the Driver, Not the Catalog

We cut every Down Fire Wide cabinet to one driver's published cutout, mounting depth and airspace, then build it one at a time in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Questions on fitment or amplifier matching, call 931-563-5151.

This enclosure holds 1.676 cu ft net . In it the Morel Ultimo Ti SC122 / SC124 runs a system Qtc of 0.62–0.70 with half power at 43.2–49.1 Hz, and the cone reaches its 9.5 mm travel limit at 116 W, below the driver’s 600 W thermal rating, so travel is what stops you here, not heat. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 172 W — +56 W, or 49 percent more power for the same 9.5 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

EBP = Fs ÷ Qes = 46.6–56.0
SEALED 0–50 TRANSITION 50–100 PORTED 100–150 0 50 100 150 SC122 46.6 SC124 56.0
SC122 · EBP 46.6SC124 · EBP 56.0
The Ti SC 12 straddles the boundary at 46.6–56.0 depending on coil — part sealed-band, part transition. Either way it takes a sealed load happily; the coil you run shifts the alignment more than it shifts this verdict.

02What the box does to it

1.676 cu ft against a 68.9 L Vas.

α = Vas ÷ Vb = 1.45  ·  Fc = Fs√(α+1) = 42–43 Hz  ·  Qtc = 0.62–0.70
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 +6 +0 -6 -12 -18 -24 FREQUENCY · Hz LEVEL · dB −3 dB
SC122 · Qtc 0.70, Fc 43 Hz, F3 43.2 HzSC124 · Qtc 0.62, Fc 42 Hz, F3 49.1 Hz
The box lifts resonance from 27.5–28.0 Hz free-air to 42–43 Hz and half power lands at 43.2–49.1 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. Morel measures the 2 ohm and 4 ohm coils separately and publishes a different resonance and compliance for each, so both are plotted rather than averaged; the cabinet is sized to the coil that asks for the larger box and the other coil sits a little below Butterworth in it. Figures are from Morel’s current specification sheet; Morel’s 2016 manual prints a different parameter set that does not reproduce its own moving mass and is not used here.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 9.5 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

PXmax = 116–121 W unfiltered  →  172–187 W with a 25 Hz subsonic
20 30 50 70 100 150 200 0 4 8 12 FREQUENCY · Hz CONE TRAVEL · mm PAST LINEAR TRAVEL · Xmax 9.5 mm 116 W reaches Xmax here

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 9.5 mm. Unfiltered that is 116 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits under the 600 W the driver can take thermally, so the enclosure sets the ceiling, not the voice coil. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 172 W before hitting the same 9.5 mm. That is 49 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Materials
Material

Built From a Spec Sheet, Not a Sales Sheet

Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF, 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure, because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.

Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

Specifications

Langboard Elite MDF: Published Mill Data

Property Value Why It Matters
Panel Stock Langboard Elite MDF Named, verifiable panel source, not generic "high-density MDF"
Thickness 3/4" (18mm) Industry standard for subwoofer enclosures; panels below this flex under pressure
Density 48.5 lbs/ft³ Higher density = less porosity, better screw retention, reduced resonance
Internal Bond 200 psi Measures resistance to delamination under sustained internal pressure. The most enclosure-relevant spec on this sheet
Modulus of Rupture (MOR) 4,200 psi Bending strength before the panel breaks, relevant for larger unsupported baffle spans
Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) 410,000 psi Stiffness under load; higher MOE means less panel flex under bass pressure, less resonance
Face Screw Holding 325 lbs How firmly the panel surface holds a screw; critical for baffle joint integrity over time
Edge Screw Holding 250 lbs Panel edge retention, relevant for every joint that isn't face-to-face
Internal Bond

200 psi: The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures

The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually. The symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.

Stiffness

410,000 psi MOE: Less Flex, Less Resonance

The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness, its resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level, not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.

Screw Holding

325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge: Joints That Stay Locked

Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint, where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.

Sourcing

Named Panel Stock: Not "Premium MDF"

The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification. It is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec. You can look up Langboard Elite independently, verify the numbers on this page, and confirm you are getting what we say you are getting. That is the point.

Why Proline X?

Most enclosures are built to a price point. Proline X is built to a spec. Every box starts with published-data MDF, gets CNC-cut to exact internal volume, and is assembled by hand in our Tennessee facility. The difference shows up in the measurements, and in how the box holds up two years into daily use.
