Wavtech thinPRO Series
Three inches deep. 54mm of peak-to-peak excursion. 750 watts RMS. The patent-pending thinPRO12 has more mechanical throw than many full-depth 12 inch subwoofers, with a 5 inch voice coil on a dual-gap double-stacked motor and a Honeycomb Nomex/Glass Fiber cone doing the work.
The specification that defines the thinPRO12 is not its depth, it is its excursion. At 54mm peak-to-peak and 20mm of one-way linear Xmax, the thinPRO12 exceeds the mechanical travel of many popular full-depth 12 inch subwoofers. That figure is the direct result of Wavtech's patent-pending dual mirrored NBR spider configuration and reinforced axial force transfer assembly, which separates cone motion mechanics from mounting depth in a way no standard shallow-mount design achieves.
Three inches of mounting depth is thin enough to fit behind seats in crew cab trucks, under rear seat platforms in SUVs, in cargo corners of hatches, and in factory locations where a 5 inch subwoofer previously could not go. The thinPRO12 fills those spaces with genuine 12 inch cone area and genuine 12 inch output, not a compromise.
The FEA-optimized dual-gap motor structure uses double-stacked strontium ferrite magnets to maximize flux density across both gaps simultaneously. Two voice coil windings interact with two separate magnetic fields, which increases total motor force without requiring the motor assembly to be taller. This is how Wavtech achieves 750 watts RMS of power handling and 20mm of linear Xmax from a motor package that fits within 3 inches of total mounting depth. It is a fundamentally different motor architecture from a standard single-gap shallow-mount driver, not an incremental improvement.
The 5 inch (127mm) voice coil is larger than the coil in most standard-depth 12 inch subwoofers. A larger coil diameter means more conductor length in the magnetic field, more motor force per unit current, and more surface area in contact with the gap air for heat dissipation. The 4-layer high-temperature winding on a vented polyimide composite former allows heat to escape the coil gap through the vent structure, which is what supports 750 watts RMS continuous operation. Polyimide handles sustained high temperatures without degrading, whereas Nomex formers used in budget drivers begin to lose dimensional stability under sustained high-power thermal load.
The composite honeycomb cone uses a Nomex fabric honeycomb core sandwiched with glass fiber skins. This construction provides exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio: the cone is rigid enough to act as a true piston through the 20mm excursion range without flexing, while light enough that the 5 inch motor can accelerate it quickly. Cone breakup modes that introduce distortion in paper or polypropylene cones are pushed to frequencies well outside the subwoofer's operating range. The result is cleaner bass with lower distortion at high output levels.
With Fs at 25 Hz (thinPRO12-2) and 26 Hz (thinPRO12-4), the thinPRO12 starts rolling off lower than nearly any comparable shallow-mount design. In the preferred 0.6 cubic foot sealed enclosure, F3 is 39 Hz for the 2-ohm variant and 42 Hz for the 4-ohm, both of which are exceptional for a 3 inch deep driver. The preferred ported alignment at 1.0 cubic foot tuned to 31 Hz reaches F3 at 28 Hz, genuine sub-30 Hz extension from a box as little as 6 inches deep overall. Wavtech publishes complete cut lists for both enclosures in the owner's manual.
The thinPRO12 is a single voice coil design available in two impedances. The thinPRO12-2 presents 2 ohms to the amplifier. The thinPRO12-4 presents 4 ohms. Running two thinPRO12-2 subwoofers in parallel presents 1 ohm; two thinPRO12-4 in parallel presents 2 ohms. Choose based on your amplifier's preferred load and how many drivers the system includes. The thinPRO12-4 wired series with a second thinPRO12-4 presents 8 ohms for bridged 4-channel applications.
Audio Intensity CNC-cuts Proline X Micro Series enclosures specifically for the Wavtech thinPRO12 in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Single 12 and dual 12 sealed configurations are available loaded with the thinPRO12 or as enclosure-only options. Vehicle-specific behind-seat enclosures for 2015-2023 and 2024-2025 Ford F-150/F-250 are also available. These are not generic enclosures modified to fit the driver; they are built to the thinPRO12's specifications from the start.
Fitment at a glance: mounting depth 3.0 inches, cutout 11.125 inches (standard 12 inch cutout), overall diameter with gasket 13.0625 inches, driver displacement 0.042 cu ft. The reverse-mountable gasket and trim ring provide installation flexibility when every fraction of depth counts. No rear clearance required.
Wavtech covers the thinPRO12 with a 1-year warranty through authorized dealers, extended to 2 years when installed by an authorized Wavtech dealer. Audio Intensity is an authorized dealer. Every unit we sell is brand new current production with full warranty coverage and lifetime tech support.

Using Wavtech's published Thiele-Small parameters from the thinPRO12 owner's manual, here are the predicted Qtc, system resonance (Fc), and F3 rolloff for both variants across three sealed volumes. These calculated values match Wavtech's published enclosure data: at the recommended 0.6 cu ft optimum, the thinPRO12-2 produces F3 at 38-39 Hz and the thinPRO12-4 at 41-42 Hz, consistent with the manual's published figures.
The low Qts values (0.49 D2 / 0.46 D4) mean both variants produce controlled, near-Butterworth alignments in the recommended sealed volume. This is unusual for a shallow-mount driver and is part of what separates the thinPRO12's bass character from typical shallow-mount designs. For maximum output and deeper extension, Wavtech's 1.0 cu ft ported alignment at 31 Hz reaches F3 at 28 Hz.

Ported alignment: Wavtech's preferred 1.0 cu ft ported enclosure tuned to 31 Hz reaches F3 at 28 Hz for both variants. Minimum port area is 15.9 sq in (4.5 inch round equivalent). A subsonic filter set at or below the tuning frequency is required. Every Wavtech bassFREQ-equipped amplifier includes a built-in subsonic filter. The thinPRO12 owner's manual includes complete cut lists and port dimensions for both the 0.6 cu ft sealed and 1.0 cu ft ported preferred enclosures. Run your own sealed numbers in the Sealed Box Calculator.
