INSTALLER'S TAKE

The M15D-S GUS is the top of the Micro Series lineup. Two ResoNix GUS-15 drivers in separate, acoustically isolated sealed chambers, each delivering exactly 1.35 cubic feet of net acoustic airspace per driver after the 0.072 cubic foot GUS-15 displacement is accounted for. Both chambers are identical, both drivers see identical acoustic conditions, and both produce identical T/S response curves. This is ResoNix's published 0.707 Qtc target hit precisely on both drivers simultaneously.

The volume is calculated the same way as every other Proline X Micro Series build: by summing every CNC-cut layer's individual opening on both sides of the chamber divider, not by assuming an internal cavity based on external dimensions minus wall thickness. The number listed is the actual net acoustic airspace each GUS-15 loads into once installed. No one else in this industry calculates enclosure volume this way. The 1.35 cubic foot per-driver figure is exact, not approximate.

Construction on this enclosure is scaled up from the standard Micro Series spec across every structural element. The exterior walls are 1-inch thick Langboard Elite MDF, thicker than the 3/4-inch panels used elsewhere in the series. Panel rigidity scales with the cube of thickness, so moving from 3/4-inch to 1-inch produces a substantially stiffer wall than the numerical difference alone suggests. At 3,000 watts RMS combined driver output the structural demands justify the additional thickness across the entire enclosure shell. The front baffle is a double-face 1.5-inch build: two bonded layers of Langboard Elite combined into a single rigid panel with both GUS-15 drivers flush-mounted into the baffle. Flush-mounting eliminates the frame-lip resonance surface-mounted drivers can develop at high-excursion listening levels and produces a cleaner airflow path across the front of the cones.

The chamber divider is CNC-cut at the same 1-inch thickness as the exterior walls and sits between the two driver chambers to keep each acoustic volume completely independent. Internal bracing is integrated into the panel layering to control diaphragm-driven wall flex under sustained high-power operation. This is stack-fab construction throughout: every panel is individually CNC-cut and stacked layer by layer, and the layer stack itself is the structural bond. Between-layer dowels add tension reinforcement that locks the panel stack against shear movement independent of adhesive condition. Corners are radiused at 3 inches viewed top-down, which is standard across the entire Micro Series. The radiused corners break up the parallel-wall geometry that creates internal standing waves and produce an organic finished shape that fits cleanly against vehicle interior surfaces without sharp corners catching on trim or upholstery. The area directly behind each driver's magnet is precision-milled to allow fine volume adjustment and, more importantly, to maintain open area immediately behind each driver's pole vent so backpressure does not interfere with voice coil cooling airflow.

The dual configuration is the right call when a single GUS-15 is not enough output for the install or when the installation footprint accommodates the larger enclosure. Two GUS-15 drivers produce roughly 3 dB more low-frequency output than a single GUS-15 at equivalent power, and combined thermal capacity is 3,000 watts RMS. At 25.89mm of Klippel-verified one-way Xmax per driver combined across 1,608 cm2 of effective cone area, this is the highest-output enclosure in the Proline X Micro Series lineup. There is no comparable shallow-mount dual 15-inch build at this depth class.

External dimensions are 38 inches wide, 12 inches tall, and 18 inches deep in downfire orientation before adding the 1.75-inch downfire feet. Total installed height in downfire mode is 13.75 inches. The 1.75-inch feet couple the enclosure to the vehicle floor across the full 38-inch width for even bass distribution across the cabin. Finished weight is 75 pounds and this enclosure ships freight, not standard ground. Contact Audio Intensity directly for freight quotes on residential deliveries with lift gate requirements.

The 33mm minimum front clearance ResoNix specifies applies at both driver positions the same as the single GUS-15 build. At 25.89mm of Xmax this clearance is the operating envelope of the suspension and is not optional headroom. Verify against seat cushion, cargo cover, vehicle floor in downfire orientation, or any other surface positioned in front of either driver before finalizing the install. Surround contact at full excursion causes mechanical damage that is not covered under warranty.

Each chamber has its own dedicated Proline X ABS/carbon fiber terminal cup with stainless steel hardware and copper ring terminals, pre-wired internally to its own driver position with 12-gauge OFC. Independent connection paths, no cross-chamber wiring. This gives complete flexibility in amplifier configuration: run each driver from its own monoblock for maximum power and channel separation, or bridge both into a single high-output amplifier with external wiring. For the D4 wired parallel per driver, each terminal cup sees 2 ohms. For the D2 wired parallel per driver, each terminal cup sees 1 ohm and requires an amplifier explicitly rated for sustained 1-ohm operation. D2 T/S parameters are not yet finalized by ResoNix, so confirm before selecting the D2 variant. For most builds, D4 wired parallel per driver (2 ohms each terminal cup) into separate 2-ohm-stable monoblocks delivering 1,200 to 1,500 watts RMS per driver is the practical target. Do not significantly exceed 1,500 watts RMS per driver. ResoNix is explicit that overpower damage is not covered under warranty.

A sealed wedge cut for a single ResoNix GUS-15 and nothing else. It sits in the trunk with the tall face against the back of the rear seat and the driver firing rearward, using the length of the trunk instead of standing in the middle of it.

Read This First

This Is Not a Down Fire Enclosure

The wedge works in one orientation: tall face flat against the rear seat back, taper running out toward the trunk lid, driver firing rearward. There are no feet, no baffle clearance gap, and no down fire option on this cabinet.

It is also cut direct fit to the GUS-15 at a 355mm opening. A standard 15 will not fit, and would not see the correct airspace if it did.

Built Backward From One Published Number

ResoNix specifies 1.35 cubic feet of net acoustic airspace for the GUS-15, the volume that produces a maximally flat sealed alignment. This cabinet is built at 1.42 cubic feet gross. Subtract the driver's 0.072 cubic feet of displacement and the GUS-15 sees 1.348 cubic feet.

That is not close to the target. That is the target. The cabinet was sized from the number rather than the number being quoted after the fact, which is the whole idea behind the Optimized line.

How It Is Built

Cabinet

Cut on our ShopSabre CNC from Langboard Elite MDF and assembled with dado and V groove joinery over 0.75 inch panels, with a double baffle at 1.5 inches. Angled panel meets are cut as V joints so the faces close on a machined bevel rather than a filled seam.

Mounting Pattern

The GUS-15 is in the Proline X CAD library, drawn from the manufacturer's own STEP file. The 355mm cutout and the nutsert locations are machined in the same operation from the same origin, so the holes cannot drift relative to each other. 8/32 threaded inserts installed with stainless machine screws supplied, matched to the driver's 375mm bolt circle and its eight 6.5mm holes.

Wiring and Damping

Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite terminal cup, side mounted, pre wired with 12 gauge OFC. Polyfill is installed as a light wall lining to control internal reflections without altering the acoustic volume, because adding fill density would shift the alignment off the 1.35 target.

Fitment

External dimensions are 23.5 inches wide by 17.5 inches tall, with depth running 12.625 inches at the base tapering to 7.25 inches at the top. Maximum driver mounting depth is 7 inches, comfortable for the GUS-15.

Front clearance. ResoNix specifies 33mm minimum clearance in front of the GUS-15. At more than 25mm of Klippel verified one way excursion that is the operational envelope of the suspension, not optional headroom. Since the driver fires rearward into the trunk, anything you load behind the box has to stay outside that envelope.

Look at the F3 column, not the Qtc column. Across the entire usable range, from ResoNix's minimum 0.8 up to their maximum 2.0 cubic feet, F3 moves about one hertz. Enclosure volume on this driver changes the shape of the response, not how deep it plays. Going bigger buys damping and headroom and costs upper bass, but buys no extension. That falls straight out of a 17 Hz Fs paired with a 0.34 Qts.

What flat means in a trunk. These figures are anechoic. Installed in a vehicle, cabin transfer function lifts the bottom octave regardless of alignment, and a rear firing trunk mount adds the loading of the trunk on top of that. In practice the in-car response will be considerably warmer than the curve above.

This enclosure holds 1.35 cu ft net per chamber. In it the ResoNix GUS-15 runs a system Qtc of 0.69–0.70 with half power at 32.2–35.6 Hz, and the cone reaches its 25.0 mm travel limit at 1590 W, above the driver’s 1500 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 3025 W — +1435 W, or 90 percent more power for the same 25.0 mm of travel.

The GUS-15 straddles the boundary at 44.1–50.3 depending on coil — part sealed-band, part transition. Either way it takes a sealed load happily; the coil you run shifts the alignment more than it shifts this verdict.

The box lifts resonance from 17.1 Hz free-air to 32–35 Hz and half power lands at 32.2–35.6 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. This enclosure ships without a driver, so both coil variants the maker offers are plotted. They do not load the same box the same way.

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 25.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 25.0 mm. Unfiltered that is 1590 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits above the 1500 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 3025 W before hitting the same 25.0 mm. That is 90 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF, 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure, because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.

Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

200 psi: The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures

The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually. The symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.

Stiffness

410,000 psi MOE: Less Flex, Less Resonance

The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness, its resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level, not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.

Screw Holding

325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge: Joints That Stay Locked

Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint, where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.

Named Panel Stock: Not "Premium MDF"

The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification. It is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec. You can look up Langboard Elite independently, verify the numbers on this page, and confirm you are getting what we say you are getting. That is the point.
