Performance Optimized Wedge | Rockford Fosgate T1D215
Single 15" Sealed Wedge Enclosure | Rear-Firing Trunk-Load Design for the Flagship Rockford Fosgate T1 Power Series
The Rockford Fosgate T1D215 in RF's Spec-Perfect Sealed Volume
The Rockford Fosgate T1D215 is the flagship of Rockford's Power T1 series and the largest single driver in the T1 lineup — 15 inches of Kevlar-reinforced paper cone driven by a 229-ounce magnet and a 3-inch voice coil on an anodized aluminum former. 1000 watts RMS continuous power handling (CEA-2031 compliant), 2000 watts peak, dual 2-ohm voice coils, 16.4mm one-way Xmax, a rigid die-cast aluminum FlexFit basket, Santoprene VAST surround that extends effective radiating cone area by up to 25% over conventional 15" drivers, and Klippel-verified design tolerances. When you need real 15-inch output from a driver with the engineering pedigree to deliver it cleanly, this is Rockford's answer.
The Performance Optimized Wedge Sealed 15 for Rockford Fosgate T1 is engineered to hit RF's exact published sealed specification. 2.79 cubic feet gross internal volume minus the T1D215's 0.547 cubic foot total driver displacement lands at 2.243 cubic feet net — essentially exact match to Rockford's 2.25 cubic foot published sealed spec, delivering the alignment RF's engineers designed the T1D215 to operate in.
2.79 cubic feet gross = 2.243 cubic feet net after the T1D215's 0.547 cubic foot total driver displacement. Essentially exact match to Rockford Fosgate's published 2.25 cubic foot sealed spec for the T1D215. The wedge geometry mounts the 15-inch woofer on the vertical trunk-lid-side face, firing rearward into the trunk cavity — classic SQ trunk-load pattern applied to Rockford's flagship 15" SPL platform.
Trunk-Load Wedge Design Explained
This wedge is not a front-firing enclosure. The woofer is mounted on the vertical face that sits at the back of the box, closest to the trunk lid, and fires rearward into the trunk cavity. The angled face is on the opposite side of the box — the side that faces the front of the vehicle — and tucks against the rear seat back. Two different problems solved by one geometry.
Seat-Side Face Matches Seat Lean
Most factory rear seat backs lean roughly 20 degrees back from vertical. The angled face of this wedge (11.2" at the top, 17.75" at the bottom) matches that lean, tucking against the seat back with no wasted gap. Even at this substantial 15" cabinet size, the wedge geometry fills trunk space efficiently rather than boxing off cargo area.
Trunk-Lid-Side Face Fires the Woofer
The vertical face on the opposite side of the wedge (28" wide × 18" tall) is where the T1D215 mounts. The driver fires rearward toward the trunk lid, using the trunk cavity as an acoustic loading chamber. This is the classic SQ trunk-load install pattern applied to Rockford's flagship 15" driver.
Trunk Cavity Loading
Firing the woofer into the trunk cavity rather than directly into the cabin uses the trunk itself as an extension of the acoustic system. Low frequencies transmit into the passenger cabin through the rear deck, seat back, and cabin boundaries — a smoother, less-localized presentation than direct-firing setups, and particularly important with a 15" driver where standing waves and boundary reflections become more pronounced.
Vehicle Sizing Requirements
28" wide by 18" tall by 11.2-17.75" deep is a substantial cabinet. Requires a full-size sedan trunk, a wagon or SUV cargo area, or a pickup extended-cab or crew-cab install with adequate space behind the rear seat. Not suitable for compact sedans, coupes, or small hatchbacks — measure your trunk carefully before ordering. The 18" height in particular is critical for parcel shelf clearance.
Engineered to Rockford Fosgate's Published Sealed Specification
Rockford Fosgate publishes exactly 2.25 cubic feet net internal as the recommended sealed enclosure volume for the T1D215. This spec is RF's own engineered target — the volume where the T1's motor structure, VAST-enhanced Santoprene surround, and progressive-roll spider suspension deliver the sealed response their Klippel-verified design targets. The Performance Optimized Wedge Sealed 15 delivers 2.79 cubic feet gross internal, which after subtracting the T1D215's total driver displacement of 0.547 cubic feet lands at 2.243 cubic feet net — right on RF's published spec.
Sealed vs. Ported for the T1D215
The T1D215 is a versatile driver that Rockford supports both sealed (2.25 cu ft) and vented (2.66 cu ft) applications for. Sealed operation delivers the tightest, most controlled bass response — ideal for musical accuracy, sound quality installs, and daily-driven vehicles where cabin gain rewards a slightly warmer alignment. If you're building a maximum-SPL system or want the peak-tuned resonance boost of a ported enclosure, RF's 2.66 cu ft vented spec is worth considering as a separate build. This cabinet is engineered specifically for RF's sealed alignment — the SQ-oriented, musically accurate side of the T1D215's capabilities.
Mounting Geometry and Driver Fitment
The vertical trunk-lid-side baffle is cut to the T1D215's exact 13.9375" cutout specification. The T1D215's 8.39" mounting depth fits inside the cabinet with clearance — internal depth from the vertical baffle to the interior of the angled seat-side face ranges from approximately 10.45" at the top edge to 17" at the bottom (after accounting for 3/4" MDF panel thickness), with the driver's mounting position at cabinet center providing over 13.7" of clearance behind the motor. Ample room for the T1D215's substantial 229-ounce magnet structure and inductive damping heat sink.
FlexFit Basket Consideration
The T1D215 uses Rockford's FlexFit basket — a slot-mounted frame pattern that allows fine-tuning of the driver's rotational mounting position. The Proline X wedge baffle is drilled with a standard bolt pattern compatible with the T1D215's slotted mounting geometry. Threaded 8/32 inserts pressed into the baffle backside accept stainless steel machine screws included with the enclosure. Given the T1D215's weight (~40 pounds installed), the mounting hardware and threaded insert placement are engineered for the driver's mass load, not just the vibration load.
Performance Series Construction, Built for 1000W RMS Flagship Operation
Langboard Elite MDF
Premium 3/4" MDF panels milled to documented spec — denser and more dimensionally stable than commodity MDF. Critical for an enclosure housing a 1000 watts RMS driver: panel resonance and MDF creep would compound over time under sustained flagship-power operation. Langboard's density and stability address both, and the panel sizes required for a 15" cabinet at these dimensions make material quality especially important.
V-Groove and Dado Joinery
CNC-cut V-grooves at every panel intersection let the wedge cabinet fold into its angled shape with maximum glue surface. Dado joints lock the vertical woofer baffle and the angled seat-side panel into the side walls — no fasteners visible from outside, no exposed end grain at joints. Especially important at the 15" cabinet scale where each panel joint experiences greater peak acoustic pressure.
8/32 Threaded Inserts
Threaded inserts pressed into the vertical woofer baffle accept stainless steel mounting screws. The T1D215's 40+ pound driver weight and 16.4mm Xmax excursion put substantial mechanical demand on mounting hardware — the threaded inserts and 3/4" baffle thickness are specified to handle both, not to marginal spec.
Pre-Wired Terminal Cup
Proline X ABS/carbon fiber composite terminal cup, pre-wired with 12-gauge OFC inside the cabinet, with stainless steel hardware accepting both spade and banana terminations on the input side. Sized to comfortably handle the T1D215's 1000W RMS power delivery with margin for peak transients.
Every panel is cut on ShopSabre CNC routers in our Tullahoma, TN facility. The angled seat-side panel requires precise CNC compound cuts to hit both the volume target and the mating angles between the top and bottom edges — at 15" cabinet scale with substantially larger panel dimensions, these tolerances are especially critical. Internal volume is verified on every unit to ensure the RF-spec 2.25 cubic foot net target is achieved.
Customize Your Build
Carpet Finish
Dark Gray Trunkliner is the standard durable wrap, matched to most factory trunk and cargo-area carpet tones. Plush Black (+$10) is a deeper, more luxurious nap that pairs well with blacked-out interiors and show builds.
Acrylic Insert Color
Choose Black, Blue, Red, or White for the baffle insert to match your build. Or skip the insert entirely (-$40) for a clean, understated look. The insert is purely cosmetic — performance is identical across colors.
Enclosure Only
This listing is for the enclosure only. Drop in your existing Rockford Fosgate T1D215 (Dual 2-ohm) or T1D415 (Dual 4-ohm) subwoofer — the cabinet fits both variants identically since RF publishes the same 2.25 cu ft sealed spec across the T1 15" line. Source your driver from any authorized Rockford Fosgate dealer.
Wiring the Rockford Fosgate T1D215 to Your Amplifier
The Rockford Fosgate T1D215 is a dual-voice-coil driver with both coils at 2 ohms, using RF's SWIFT terminal system that allows quick reconfiguration between series and parallel wiring. The pre-wired terminal cup accepts the two-conductor connection via 12-gauge OFC, with stainless steel input hardware.
Parallel wiring (1 ohm total load): Both voice coils in parallel via SWIFT terminals presents a 1-ohm load to your amplifier — the highest-output configuration, ideal for RF's own Power T1000-1bdCP monoblock amplifier, or any modern class D monoblock stable at 1 ohm. This is the standard high-SPL wiring configuration and the natural pairing for the T1D215's 1000W RMS power handling.
Series wiring (4 ohm total load): Both voice coils in series via SWIFT terminals presents a 4-ohm load — used with amplifiers that don't support 1-ohm stable operation, or in dual-driver installs where paralleling two 4-ohm loads at the amp gets you back to a 2-ohm total. Also compatible with class AB amplifiers preferring higher impedance loads.
T1D415 alternative: Rockford also offers the T1D415 (Dual 4-ohm) variant for installs where 2-ohm parallel (T1D415 wired parallel = 2 ohms) or 8-ohm series operation is preferred. Either variant fits this cabinet identically.
The T1D215 is rated for 1000 watts RMS continuous (CEA-2031 compliant) with 2000W peak handling. Aim for a well-regulated class D monoblock delivering 800-1000 watts RMS at your chosen impedance for the best combination of headroom and dynamic capability. Rockford Fosgate's own Power T1000-1bdCP is the natural match, delivering full rated output at 1-ohm parallel via SWIFT terminals with Constant Power design that maintains rated output across impedance loads. Set your amplifier's active low-pass filter between 80 and 100 Hz for musical accuracy in a full-range system. A subsonic filter around 20-25 Hz is recommended given the T1D215's 26.3 Hz Fs.

Built From a Spec Sheet, Not a Sales Sheet
Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF, 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure, because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.
Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.
Langboard Elite MDF: Published Mill Data
| Property | Value | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Panel Stock | Langboard Elite MDF | Named, verifiable panel source, not generic "high-density MDF" |
| Thickness | 3/4" (18mm) | Industry standard for subwoofer enclosures; panels below this flex under pressure |
| Density | 48.5 lbs/ft³ | Higher density = less porosity, better screw retention, reduced resonance |
| Internal Bond | 200 psi | Measures resistance to delamination under sustained internal pressure. The most enclosure-relevant spec on this sheet |
| Modulus of Rupture (MOR) | 4,200 psi | Bending strength before the panel breaks, relevant for larger unsupported baffle spans |
| Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) | 410,000 psi | Stiffness under load; higher MOE means less panel flex under bass pressure, less resonance |
| Face Screw Holding | 325 lbs | How firmly the panel surface holds a screw; critical for baffle joint integrity over time |
| Edge Screw Holding | 250 lbs | Panel edge retention, relevant for every joint that isn't face-to-face |
200 psi: The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures
The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually. The symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.
410,000 psi MOE: Less Flex, Less Resonance
The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness, its resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level, not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.
325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge: Joints That Stay Locked
Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint, where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.
Named Panel Stock: Not "Premium MDF"
The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification. It is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec. You can look up Langboard Elite independently, verify the numbers on this page, and confirm you are getting what we say you are getting. That is the point.
Why Proline X?
Most enclosures are built to a price point. Proline X is built to a spec. Every box starts with published-data MDF, gets CNC-cut to exact internal volume, and is assembled by hand in our Tennessee facility. The difference shows up in the measurements — and in how the box holds up two years into daily use.
CNC-Cut to Spec
Panels are machine-cut on ShopSabre CNC routers and joined with V-groove and dado joinery. Consistent geometry, no hand-cut variance, no gaps at the joints.
Handcrafted in USA
Hand-assembled at our facility in Tullahoma, TN. Every enclosure is inspected before it ships.
Tuned to the Build
Internal volume and port geometry are calculated to spec and CNC-cut to exact dimensions. The box performs the same way every time.
