INSTALLER'S TAKE

The NB3-10 is a depth solver first. 3.00 inches of mounting depth, 600 watts RMS, 11mm of one-way Xmax, and a 70 ounce ferrite motor with a 2.5 inch four-layer copper coil. For a shallow driver that is a lot of motor, and the 151.63 gram moving mass with a BL of 23.365 tells you Prodigy built this to actually control the cone rather than just fit under a seat.

Here is the honest part about sealed alignment on this driver. Published Vas is 14.43 liters against a 36.4 Hz Fs, which is a stiff suspension. That combination means anechoic F3 sits in the 60s in a sealed box regardless of what volume you build. Going from 0.25 cubic feet net to 0.80 moves F3 by about 5 Hz. There is no volume that makes this driver a low anechoic F3 sealed sub, so the design question is not how to chase extension, it is what to do with the rolloff you are going to get.

0.76 cubic feet net is the answer. It lands at Qtc 0.526 with Fc at 47.1 Hz, which is the lowest corner frequency this driver will reach in a sealed cabinet. Textbook 0.707 would need roughly 0.25 net and would push Fc up 17 Hz to buy back 5 Hz of F3. That is a bad trade. The overdamped alignment gives the gentler rolloff slope and the tighter impulse response, and in a down fire cabinet coupling into the floor, that shallow slope is exactly what you want meeting cabin gain on the way down. Anechoic 68 Hz measures nothing like 68 Hz in a truck cab.

The double baffle at 1.5 inches is standard across Performance Optimized and it matters here for a specific reason: a 6.25 inch tall cabinet has short panel spans and very little room for internal bracing geometry, so baffle rigidity carries more of the structural load than it would in a taller box. Two bonded 3/4 inch layers with a CNC-precision cutout give the driver a mounting platform that will not telegraph flex back into the cone.

Terminal cup is side mounted, which is the standard on every Performance Optimized enclosure and not a down fire specific choice. On this cabinet it happens to be the only sensible location anyway, since the baffle faces the floor and the cabinet sits low. You can land wire on it with the box in position.

Target 450 to 600 watts RMS at the woofer impedance. The NB3-10D4 is a dual 4 ohm driver, so a single unit wires to 2 ohms or 8 ohms.

Performance, Performance Optimized, and Micro

Proline X builds three tiers of Down Fire enclosure. The difference is not finish or materials, it is whether the cabinet was designed for a category or for a driver, and how much of the fitting work is already done for you.

Feet ship with every tier, uninstalled on purpose. Mount them where your floor wants them for a down fire install, or leave them off and run the cabinet front firing or up firing. The orientation is yours to choose.

This page is a Performance Optimized enclosure. The airspace, the cutout and the cabinet height all come from the Prodigy NB3-10D4's own published numbers. A Performance box fits your subwoofer. A Performance Optimized box was built for it.

Built Around the Prodigy NB3-10

Nothing about this cabinet is generic. The baffle is bored to the NB3-10's 9.125 inch cutout, and the cabinet stands 6.25 inches tall because the driver asks for only 3.00 inches of mounting depth. The NB3 Series exists to solve a depth problem, and this enclosure extends the same logic to the box: it slides into spaces that will not accept a conventional cabinet.

The NB3-10D4 is a 600 watt RMS dual 4 ohm driver with 11mm of one way Xmax at 70 percent BL. The motor is a 70 ounce ferrite magnet with a 2.5 inch four layer copper voice coil on a black aluminum former, and an FEA designed center pole vent pulls heat out of the gap. Cone is treated paper on a rubber surround in a stamped steel frame, with a Nomex and cotton blend spider and flat stitched tinsel leads.

For a shallow driver that is a lot of motor. Moving mass is 151.63 grams against a BL of 23.365, which tells you Prodigy built this to control the cone rather than only to fit under a seat.

Net Volume, Not Gross

Gross internal volume is 0.86 cubic feet. After the driver's published 0.10 cubic feet of displacement, the as built figure is 0.76 cubic feet net. That volume was selected against the driver's published Thiele-Small data, not a generic 10 inch rule of thumb.

The NB3-10 carries a small 14.43 liter Vas against a 36.4 Hz Fs. That is a stiff suspension, and it makes sealed alignment an inherently low Qtc proposition on this driver no matter what volume you build. At 0.76 net the system lands at Qtc 0.526, Fc 47.1 Hz, and a predicted anechoic F3 of 68.1 Hz. That is deliberately on the overdamped side, and it is the correct choice here: shrinking the box to chase a textbook 0.707 alignment would take roughly 0.25 cubic feet net and would raise Fc by 17 Hz to buy back only 5 Hz of extension. The larger cabinet gives the gentler rolloff slope, the tighter impulse response, and the lowest corner frequency this driver will reach in a sealed box.

True net, not marketing net. Internal volume is calculated from the machined cavity dimensions and the driver's published displacement, not estimated from external dimensions minus wall thickness.

Anechoic Numbers, Cabin Reality

Anechoic F3 is not what you hear in a vehicle. The 68.1 Hz figure is a free space prediction with no boundaries. A cabin is a small sealed volume that produces rising gain below roughly 60 Hz. A sealed enclosure rolls off at 12 dB per octave, and an overdamped alignment rolls off more gently still, so driver output and cabin gain work against each other in a useful way. In a down fire orientation coupling into the cabin floor, in car response typically extends well below the anechoic number. We publish the anechoic figure because it is the honest measurable spec, not because it is what you will hear.

Down Fire Construction

Cut with V-groove and dado joinery on our ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite 3/4 inch MDF, a dense 48.5 lb/ft³ board with a 200 psi internal bond and 410,000 psi MOE. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks before adhesive is applied, which keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling. Corners are square on Down Fire cabinets.

External dimensions are 30 inches wide by 15 inches deep by 6.25 inches tall, measured in the down fire position. Finished weight is 28 pounds. The driver fires down into the floor, so the cabinet couples into the boundary directly beneath it.

Double Baffle, Flush Recess

The front baffle is 1.5 inches, two bonded 3/4 inch sheets, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so the driver bolts to the inner layer. That recovers 3/4 inch of internal clearance, which counts for more in a cabinet this short.

Side-Mounted Terminal Cup

Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite cup, recessed, with stainless hardware and copper ring terminals, pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC. Side mounted so it stays accessible with the baffle facing the floor.

Perimeter Cross-Bracing

A 6.25 inch cabinet has short panel spans and little room for bracing geometry, so the perimeter cross-brace and the double baffle carry the structural load together. Polyfill damping is pre-installed.

Power and Warranty

Target 450 to 600 watts RMS at the woofer impedance. Prodigy rates the NB3-10D4 at 600 watts RMS continuous. It is a dual 4 ohm driver, so a single unit wires to 2 ohms or 8 ohms.

The driver lands on 8/32 threaded inserts and stainless steel machine screws are included. The enclosure carries a 1 year limited warranty. Bring your own Prodigy NB3-10D4; the driver is purchased separately.

This enclosure holds 0.76 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Prodigy Audio NB3-10 runs a system Qtc of 0.53 with half power at 68.1 Hz, and the cone reaches its 11.0 mm travel limit at 347 W, below the driver’s 600 W thermal rating, so travel is what stops you here, not heat. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 584 W — +237 W, or 68 percent more power for the same 11.0 mm of travel.

At 73.5 the NB3-10 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 11.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 11.0 mm. Unfiltered that is 347 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits under the 600 W the driver can take thermally, so the enclosure sets the ceiling, not the voice coil. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 584 W before hitting the same 11.0 mm. That is 68 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Built From a Spec Sheet, Not a Sales Sheet

Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF, 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure, because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.

Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

200 psi: The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures

The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually. The symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.

Stiffness

410,000 psi MOE: Less Flex, Less Resonance

The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness, its resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level, not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.

Screw Holding

325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge: Joints That Stay Locked

Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint, where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.

Named Panel Stock: Not "Premium MDF"

The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification. It is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec. You can look up Langboard Elite independently, verify the numbers on this page, and confirm you are getting what we say you are getting. That is the point.
