What You Are Buying

A brand new, never-installed Dynaudio Esotan 212C coaxial set from a line Dynaudio has discontinued. We are not restocking it.

Dynaudio has been building drivers in Denmark since 1977, and their reputation is built on the home and studio side as much as the car side. What carries across is a house voicing that leans neutral rather than exciting: their drivers tend to under-promise on first listen and hold up over hours. The Esotan line was the accessible end of their car range and it inherits that character.

Read this before you buy

Final sale. No returns, no exchanges, no manufacturer warranty. This is a discontinued model with no replacement pipeline, so a failed driver cannot be matched. If you need warranty coverage, buy current production.

Reading the Specification

91dB sensitivity

This is the number that defines the driver. 91dB is high for a 6.5 inch coaxial and it changes what the speaker is for: it will play loudly and cleanly on very little power. A factory head unit at 18 to 22W per channel drives these to a genuinely satisfying level, which is unusual and makes them a strong choice for a car that is not getting an amplifier.

65Hz to 20kHz

Conventional reach for the format. These are not going to replace a subwoofer, and Dynaudio did not pretend otherwise. Below 65Hz you want something else doing the work.

80W RMS per pair

Worth reading carefully, because it is published per pair rather than per speaker. That works out at roughly 40W continuous per driver. The recommended amplifier figure is 40 to 80W RMS per channel, and the upper end of that is where you should stop.

Silk dome on a neodymium motor

The 0.7 inch tweeter is silk rather than metal, and it sits on a neodymium magnet. Silk rolls off gently and forgives a harsh or compressed source, which is the right decision for a car interior full of hard reflective surfaces. Neodymium keeps the tweeter assembly small enough to sit at the centre of the woofer without adding depth.

Straight answer

The case for these is sensitivity and voicing. If you are not fitting an amplifier, 91dB does more for you than almost any other specification on the sheet. If you already have 80W per channel waiting, a lower-sensitivity driver with more power handling may suit you better.

Fitment

  • 165mm / 6.5 inch mounting fits standard factory locations. Adapter plates for non-European cars are not supplied.
  • Mounting depth is approximately 55 to 60mm. Dynaudio published this as a range rather than a fixed figure, so measure your door before ordering rather than trusting the midpoint.
  • 4 Ohm nominal works with any head unit or amplifier without special consideration.

Who This Suits

Buy these if

  • You are running head unit power and want the most from it.
  • You prefer a neutral, unfatiguing voicing over an exciting one.
  • You want a straight factory replacement with no fabrication.
  • You accept a final sale on a discontinued product with no warranty path.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want deep bass from the doors. 65Hz is where these stop.
  • You are running more than about 80W per channel.
  • You want the tweeter at ear height for imaging; buy a component set.
  • You want warranty coverage or the option to return.

Installation

  • Pull the door card, keep the clips, and test-fit dry with the window both up and down before wiring.
  • Verify the depth against your own door. The published figure is a range.
  • Wire straight from the head unit or amplifier. A coaxial needs no external crossover.
  • Seal the door card and the large holes in the inner skin. On a high-sensitivity driver a leaky door is the difference between full midbass and none.

Getting the most from the sensitivity

A 91dB driver rewards a quiet install more than a loud one. Deadening the outer door skin and sealing the inner skin will do more for these than another 20W would. Spend the effort there first.

Condition and sale terms

Brand new closeout stock from a discontinued Dynaudio line, never installed. Sold as a final sale with no returns, no exchanges and no manufacturer warranty. Packaging may show shelf wear from storage; contents are unused. Specifications are as published by Dynaudio, including power handling quoted per pair and mounting depth given as a range. Once remaining stock is gone this listing will be removed.
