What You Are Buying
A two-way 4 inch coaxial pair. Dash pods, rear doors, kick panels, and the shallow factory locations in older imports and small cars.
Nobody buys a 4 inch speaker because they want a 4 inch speaker. You buy one because the hole is 4 inches and there is 2 inches behind it. This one is honest about what that constraint costs and good at working inside it.
The high-pass points are higher on this one, and that is deliberate
The 80W RMS rating is measured with an electronic high-pass at 120Hz at 24dB/octave, 150Hz at 18dB/octave, or 180Hz at 12dB/octave. That is 40 to 60Hz higher than Audio Dynamics specifies for their 5.25 inch drivers. A 4 inch cone has roughly half the area of a 5.25 and it runs out of excursion long before it runs out of power. Filter it where they tell you to.
Reading the Specification
82.95dB sensitivity
Low, and there is no way around it. Small cone, small motor, extended response: pick two. These will make sound off a factory head unit at 25 to 35W but they will not fill a car. With 50 to 80W RMS per channel behind them they do their job properly.
48mm mounting depth
This is the number that sells the speaker. 1 15/16 inches clears window mechanisms and lock rods in doors where a normal driver fouls something. If you have measured your space and come up short, this is the category to be shopping in.
25.4mm voice coil on a 4 inch cone
A 1 inch coil is oversized relative to the cone, which is the right choice here. It is what makes the 80W rating credible on a driver this size, because thermal capacity scales with coil area, not cone area.
Coated paper cone
Paper with a protective coating. Self-damping, so no hard breakup peak in the upper midrange, and the coating buys some resistance to humidity. On a 4 inch driver being asked to carry from 150Hz up, cone behaviour in the midrange is most of what you hear.
Fitment
- 92.68mm / 3 11/16 inch mounting hole. Check this figure, not the nominal 4 inch.
- 48mm / 1 15/16 inch mounting depth.
- 69.6mm / 2 3/4 inch motor diameter. This is what has to clear whatever is behind the baffle.
- 18.39mm / 3/4 inch tweeter protrusion. Check grille clearance before you close the panel; this one sticks out further than the 5.25 inch models do.
- 4 Ohm nominal.
Where these earn their keep
A 4 inch coaxial run from 150Hz up, with a 6.5 or a subwoofer doing everything below, is a genuinely good dash or pillar speaker. A 4 inch coaxial asked to be the whole system is not. The difference is entirely in the crossover.

- Your factory location is 4 inch and shallow.
- You have an amplifier and a high-pass filter at 120Hz or above.
- You are adding dash or pillar speakers to an existing system.
- You accept a final sale on closeout stock.
Look elsewhere if
- These are the only speakers in the car and there is no subwoofer.
- You are on head unit power and want volume.
- Your location will take a 5.25. Buy the bigger driver.
- You cannot high-pass the channel.
Installation
- Set the high-pass at 120Hz or above before you set the gain.
- Check the 18.39mm tweeter protrusion against the factory grille. On dash locations this is the usual reason a speaker will not seat.
- Test-fit dry before wiring anything.
- Wire straight from the amplifier. The crossover is built in.
Condition and sale terms
Closeout stock, sold as a final sale with no returns and no exchanges. Packaging may show shelf wear from storage. Specifications are as published by Audio Dynamics, including the power rating's dependence on external high-pass filtering. Once remaining stock is gone this listing will be removed.
