INSTALLER'S TAKE

The RS-W10 is the shallow 10 we point to when the space is tight but the customer still wants a woofer that moves real air. 20 mm of Xmax and a 4 inch coil in 3.25 inches of depth is full-size territory, and it is the driver in our loaded Micro and F-150 behind-seat builds for that reason.

Pick the coil by the load you want at the amplifier. The D2 has the lower Qts of the two and stays tighter in a small sealed box; the D4 is the higher-Q version and likes Alpine's medium or large box. Either way keep it sealed, which is all Alpine recommends for this line.

Alpine R-Series Shallow Subwoofer

Alpine RS-W10 10 Inch Shallow Subwoofer

600 watts RMS and 20 mm of Xmax from 3.25 inches of mounting depth. The RS-W10 gives a shallow 10 the same cone travel as Alpine's full-size R2 woofers, driven by a 4 inch voice coil and a neodymium motor. Choose the dual 4 ohm RS-W10D4 or the dual 2 ohm RS-W10D2 to suit your amplifier. Compare it with our other shallow mount subwoofers.

600W RMS 3.25 in Depth 20 mm Xmax Dual 4 or Dual 2 Ohm

Full-Size Excursion in a Shallow Basket

Most shallow 10s give up excursion to save depth. The RS-W10 keeps 20 mm of one-way linear excursion and 54 mm of peak-to-peak mechanical travel in a 3.25 inch mounting depth. The cutout is 9-5/8 inches (243 mm), the frame is 10.81 inches across, and the driver displaces only 0.04 cubic feet, so it fits behind truck seats, in thin floor boxes and anywhere a full-depth 10 will not clear.

Alpine's Gen2 DD Linear dual magnetic gap keeps the 4 inch voice coil under control at high excursion for lower distortion, and a neodymium magnet keeps the motor light and short. The coil former is vented, a cooling fin draws heat off the voice coil, and the frame is die-cast aluminum with a removable trim ring and an aluminum dust cap. The trim ring accepts Alpine's KTE-RS10G grille kit, sold separately.

Dual 4 Ohm or Dual 2 Ohm

Both versions share the basket, motor, power rating and mounting dimensions. The coil sets the load your amplifier sees:

RS-W10D4 (Dual 4 Ohm): coils in parallel give 2 ohms, in series 8 ohms. A pair wired 8 ohms each and paralleled gives 4 ohms.

RS-W10D2 (Dual 2 Ohm): coils in parallel give 1 ohm, in series 4 ohms. A pair wired 4 ohms each and paralleled gives 2 ohms.

Alpine rates both at 600 watts RMS and 1800 watts peak, with a recommended amplifier range of 500 to 600 watts RMS per woofer.

Alpine's Recommended Sealed Boxes

Alpine designs the R-Series Shallow for sealed enclosures and gives a sealed range of 0.45 to 1.0 cubic feet net for the 10. These are Alpine's own recommended boxes for both coil versions, built from 3/4 inch MDF, with the F3 and Fb figures Alpine publishes for each.

Size External (W x H x D) Gross Net F3, Fb
Small 16" x 15" x 6.25" 0.54 cu ft 0.50 cu ft 32 Hz, 44 Hz
Medium 18" x 15" x 7" 0.79 cu ft 0.75 cu ft 30 Hz, 40 Hz
Large 20" x 15" x 8.75" 1.04 cu ft 1.00 cu ft 28 Hz, 38 Hz

Enclosures We Cut for the RS-W10

We build Proline X sealed cabinets for this driver in Tullahoma, Tennessee, with the 9-5/8 inch cutout and 3.25 inch mounting depth cut direct fit:

We also sell the Micro Series sealed 10 system and Ford F-150 and F-250 behind-seat builds with the RS-W10D4 already installed. Need more cone area in the same depth? See the Alpine RS-W12D2 shallow 12, or everything we carry from Alpine on our Alpine page.
