INSTALLER'S TAKE

The M350 is what I would specify now over the older M3. 36 mm of mounting depth against 49.5 is the practical difference, and in an A pillar or a door pod that 13.5 mm is frequently the whole argument.

The engineering is genuinely unusual. The spider sits inside a 2 inch voice coil former rather than around it, which is what lets a 3.5 inch driver carry a coil that large and still move 4 mm one way. Bigger coil means better thermal handling, and the carbon fiber dome is the moving diaphragm itself rather than a dust cap riding on a cone.

Run it 400 Hz to 5,000 Hz. This is a dedicated midrange, not a wideband like the M3, so it wants a tweeter above it and a midbass below it. Sensitivity is 88 dB, a touch above the M3, so level match if you are mixing the two across a 3 way.

One fitment warning if you are swapping from an M3. SI say it drops in and the mounting hole count does match, but the published cutout is 74 mm against the M3's 72.5 mm, and the OD is 94 against 94.4. Check the hole you already have before you assume it is a straight swap.

M350 Carbon

3.5 Inch Carbon Fiber Dome Midrange | Sold as a Pair

Carbon Fiber Dome 2 in Copper Voice Coil 4 mm One-Way Xmax 36 mm Mounting Depth 400 Hz to 5,000 Hz

A Different Approach to a 3.5 Inch Midrange

The M350 Carbon is a completely new 3.5 inch midrange built around an unusual idea: a full 2 inch diameter voice coil with the spider mounted inside the voice coil former. Putting the spider inside the coil gives it room for smooth, ample travel, and Stereo Integrity says the large coil increases thermal power handling dramatically compared with a conventional 3.5 inch design.

It is also shallow. The M350 mounts in 36 mm, 13.5 mm less than the M3 Carbon, which opens up more mounting locations and makes installation easier.

Engineering Highlights

Full Carbon Fiber Dome

The dome is the moving diaphragm, so Stereo Integrity made it from full carbon fiber for its strength to weight ratio. A custom tooled carrier joins the spider to the dome and keeps the coil, spider, dome, and surround in alignment.

Underhung Neodymium Motor

The new underhung neodymium cup motor increases motor strength for higher sensitivity and delivers 4 mm of one-way linear travel at 70 percent Bl, which Stereo Integrity says is 35 percent more than its predecessor.

2 Inch Copper Coil on Kapton

The copper coil is wound on a lightweight Kapton former that eliminates eddy currents, with a copper pole sleeve and a solid aluminum Faraday ring at the magnet.

Tidy Terminal Block

A minimalist cast aluminum frame carries a terminal block with the voice coil leads soldered directly in place for easy speaker connection.

Crossover Recommendation

Stereo Integrity recommends using the M350 Carbon from 400 Hz to 5,000 Hz. The specification sheet lists a frequency response of 400 Hz to 20,000 Hz and a sealed volume of up to 0.25 cubic feet if you build a pod or back chamber.

Upgrading from the M3 Carbon: Stereo Integrity designed the M350 as an easy swap for the M3 Carbon. Its published cutout is 74 mm and outer diameter 94 mm, compared with 72.5 mm and 94.4 mm for the M3 Carbon, so confirm the fit before you cut.

Fitment

Outer diameter: 94 mm. Cutout: 74 mm. Mounting depth: 36 mm. Motor diameter: 74 mm without boot. Mounting holes: 5. Baffle to top of surround: 7 mm. Minimum grille clearance: 4 mm. Sold as a pair.
