The 3S3 is the entry point for someone who wants to do active right without the full cost of the 5S3 or 7S3. The architecture is identical: active 3-way, DSP required, 6 amplifier channels, no passive crossover. The driver construction is different in ways that matter but not in ways that make this a compromised system. Paper cones with concave dust caps and silver-plated leads are legitimate quality choices, not budget shortcuts.

The power ceiling is 75 watts RMS across all three drivers, which narrows the amplifier selection. This is not a disadvantage for buyers who were going to pair it with a mid-tier 6-channel amp anyway. A good 6-channel at 50-60 watts per channel feeds all three drivers within spec and leaves headroom. Do not buy a 150-watt per channel 6-channel and then try to limit output to 75 watts via gain structure. Buy a 75-watt 6-channel or a pair of 4-channel amps configured for 3-way use at appropriate power.

The ferrite motors on both cone drivers produce a different motor force characteristic than neodymium. Not worse, different. Ferrite motors tend to have broader BH curves and higher thermal mass. The tradeoff is size and weight. The 3S3 midbass at 884 grams is less than two-thirds the weight of the 7S3 midbass. In a door where panel stiffness is marginal, that weight difference matters.

Crossover approach is the same as the other Revolution tiers. Midbass high-pass at 80-100 Hz, band-pass at 300-500 Hz to 3-5 kHz, tweeter high-pass from there. Run measurements, set time alignment, adjust by ear. The Goldhorn DSP makes this process accessible even for someone doing their first active install.

Crescendo Revolution Speaker Series

Crescendo Revolution 3S3 3-Way Speaker System

The entry point to the Revolution active 3-way lineup. Paper cones on the midbass and midrange, silver-plated copper lead wire, 28mm fabric dome tweeter in an aluminum housing, and the same active architecture as the 5S3 and 7S3 at a more accessible price. DSP and 6 amplifier channels required.

3-Way Active DSP Required 6 Amp Channels 50-75W Per Driver

Where the Revolution Lineup Starts

The Crescendo Revolution lineup spans three active 3-way systems: 3S3, 5S3, and 7S3. All three require DSP, all three require 6 amplifier channels, and none include a passive crossover. The 3S3 is where the lineup begins: paper cones, steel midbass chassis, ferrite motors on both cone drivers, and a 28mm fabric dome tweeter. It is a real active 3-way component system at a price that makes the active format accessible to buyers who want the flexibility and tuning control of DSP without the full cost of the higher-tier systems.

The power rating is 50 to 75 watts RMS per driver across all three drivers, lower than the 5S3 and 7S3. Amplifier selection should respect this: 50 to 75 watts per channel per driver is the operating window. A clean 6-channel amplifier at 50 watts per channel is the right pairing for this system.

System requirements: The Revolution 3S3 requires a minimum of 6 amplifier channels and an active DSP processor or active electronic crossover. There is no passive crossover included or available. If your installation does not include DSP-controlled active processing, this is not the right product.

Three Drivers

Midbass

6.5 in

Paper cone, concave paper dust cap, steel chassis, silver-plated copper lead wire, ferrite overhung motor. 50-75W RMS, 4 Ohm, 60 Hz-6 kHz. 884g.

Midrange

4 in

Paper cone, concave paper dust cap, aluminum chassis, ferrite overhung motor. 50-75W RMS, 4 Ohm, 250 Hz-8 kHz. 391g. Ferrite motor at both cone driver positions distinguishes the 3S3 from the 5S3.

Tweeter

28mm

Fabric dome, neodymium motor, integrated aluminum housing, 57.5mm OD. 50-75W RMS, 4 Ohm, 2 kHz-20 kHz. 99g. Same dome diameter as the 5S3 tweeter.

Paper Cones and Silver-Plated Copper Leads

Both the midbass and midrange use paper cones with concave paper dust caps. Paper has natural acoustic damping that polypropylene lacks, producing a warmer and smoother tonal character that Crescendo specifically identifies as the design target for the Revolution 3 Series. The concave paper dust cap profile helps control high-frequency dispersion at the upper limit of each driver's range, smoothing the handoff to the next driver in the active crossover chain.

The silver-plated copper lead wires on the midbass are a quality detail at this price tier. Silver plating reduces oxidation over time and lowers contact resistance at the tinsel lead junction. Crescendo calls this out specifically because lead wire quality is frequently compromised on budget drivers where it is not visible and therefore easy to reduce without obvious cost.

3S3 vs 5S3 vs 7S3: How the Revolution Lineup Scales

The 3S3 uses paper cones and ferrite motors on the cone drivers. The Crescendo Revolution 5S3 steps up to fiberglass cones with neodymium on the midrange and a heavier tweeter assembly. The Crescendo Revolution 7S3 uses treated paper with integrated dust caps, heavier cast aluminum chassis on both cone drivers, stainless steel tweeter housing, and nearly double the tweeter weight. Each tier adds motor strength, chassis rigidity, and acoustic damping sophistication. Power handling increases from 50-75W across the board on the 3S3 to 50-100W on the 5S3, with the 7S3 capping the midrange at 75W. Choose the tier that matches your amplifier budget and installation goals.

Active Architecture and Goldhorn DSP

The 3S3's active design provides the same flexibility as the higher-tier systems: complete control over crossover points, slopes, time alignment, and equalization for each driver independently. Pairing the 3S3 with a Goldhorn DSP gives you the full active tuning capability the system is designed for at a system cost that makes sense for the driver tier. Audio Intensity is the Original US Importer of Goldhorn DSP and can provide configuration guidance for 3S3 installations.

What is included: One pair of 6.5 inch midbass drivers, one pair of 4 inch midrange drivers, one pair of 28mm tweeters in integrated aluminum housings. No passive crossover. Mounting hardware is installation-dependent.
