INSTALLER'S TAKE

I have spent years competing and judging on the sound quality circuit, and if you ask me where the magic of a great car system comes from, it is the midrange. Vocals, guitars, pianos, the body of almost every instrument lives in this band, and giving it a dedicated driver is the biggest single jump in realism you can make. That is what the Aspect 3 is for.

Adding a 3 inch midrange does two good things at once. It lets the midbass stop reaching up into frequencies where a 6.5 or 6x9 starts to get directional and harsh, and it lets the tweeter come in higher where it is happiest. Everybody in the system gets to do its best work.

For tuning, high-pass it at 300Hz and cross to the tweeter around 3,000 to 3,500Hz. Never run a little midrange wide open. The nice surprise is the level match: at 85dB it sits right next to the Karma midbass drivers, so I am not fighting big gain differences to blend it. Free-air or a tiny 0.5 liter pod makes placement easy, and getting that midrange up high on a pillar or the dash is where the tall, wide stage comes from.

My honest take: if you are running a Karma 2-way and wondering what the next upgrade is, this is it. Whether you are on the Allure set or the Aspect set, the Aspect 3 is the piece that takes it to another level.

Karma Mobile Audio Aspect 3

Aspect Series 3" Kevlar Midrange | Sold as a Pair

3" Midrange Kevlar Cone 100W RMS 4 Ohm Free-Air Aspect Series

The Heart of a 3-Way

The Karma Mobile Audio Aspect 3 is a 3 inch Kevlar midrange designed by speaker engineer Dr. Rishi S. Gurbani. It is the piece that turns a 2-way front stage into a 3-way, and it is sold as a pair.

The midrange is where voices and most instruments live. Giving that band its own dedicated driver is the single biggest step up in clarity and staging you can make. The Aspect 3 lets your midbass stop straining for the high notes and lets your tweeter come in higher and cleaner.

Built to Perform

The Aspect 3 carries the Karma material set into a compact, low-mass midrange tuned for detail and easy placement.

Kevlar Cone

A stiff, light Kevlar cone with a laser-etched aluminum-magnesium dustcap keeps the vocal band clean and natural without harshness.

Low Moving Mass

At just 2.3 grams of moving mass, the cone starts and stops fast, which is exactly what the midrange band needs for detail and speed.

Integrated Butyl Surround

A one-piece butyl surround and gasket seals to the baffle or pod and holds up to years of heat cycling far better than foam.

Flexible Mounting

It runs free-air or in a sealed pod as small as 0.5 liters, so it fits a pillar, a dash, a door, or a custom pod with ease.

Power and Crossover

The Aspect 3 is a midrange and must be high-passed. Run it filtered the way it is designed to run and it stays clean and protected.

The factory sheet lists 15 watts nominal and 30 watts peak. Those are raw bench numbers measured full-range with no crossover. Behind the recommended 300 Hz 24 dB-per-octave high-pass, the usable rating is 100 watts RMS. Never run a small midrange wide open. Cross it at 300 Hz and let the midbass carry everything below.

In a 3-way, high-pass the Aspect 3 at 300 Hz and hand off to your tweeter around 3,000 to 3,500 Hz. Its 85 dB sensitivity sits right next to the Karma midbass drivers, so the two level-match naturally with very little adjustment.

Fitment and Integration

The Aspect 3 is a direct replacement for factory 3 inch speakers in dashes, doors, and pillars, and an easy build into a custom pod. It does not need a sealed box, but it does want a solid mounting surface.

Flange diameter: 90.4mm. Cutout: approximately 71mm. Bolt circle: 81mm, four holes. Mounting depth: 33.7mm. Confirm against your location using the mounting drawing before install.

Build the full Karma 3-way

With the Allure Set

Add the Aspect 3 between the Karma Mobile Audio Allure 6 Midbass and Allure 1 Tweeter for a reference 3-way front stage.

With the Aspect Set

Build on the Karma Mobile Audio Aspect 6.1 Component Set, adding the Aspect 3 to make it a full 3-way.

With the Aspect 6.9

Pair it with the Karma Mobile Audio Aspect 6.9 6x9 midbass and a tweeter for a big-midbass 3-way.

Pillar or Dash Pod

Free-air or a 0.5 liter pod lets you set midrange height and aim in an A-pillar or on the dash for a tall, wide stage.
