Scott Bronco
Scott Bronco
This page compares six dual subwoofer enclosures built for one vehicle, Scott's Ford Bronco. Every cabinet shares the same 41 inch wide by 16 inch tall front face, sized to span the Bronco's cargo floor and sit low enough to keep the area above it usable. With the width and height locked, the only things that change from box to box are the driver, the alignment and the depth. That makes this a straight comparison of what each choice does to the bass.
There are two cabinet types. The Performance Optimized sealed wide wedge fires rearward from a vertical baffle, with the back panel raked 20 degrees to sit against the rear seat. A full divider gives each driver its own sealed chamber, tuned to the driver's own parameters. Sealed boxes stay compact and roll off gently, which gives tight, controlled bass that the cabin then fills in below 50 Hz. The Professional Series ported box is a full front-firing cabinet with a 2.25 inch three-layer baffle, the drivers flush mounted, and a slot port on the face that shares one chamber between the pair. Ported boxes need more depth, but they reach lower and play louder around their tuning frequency.
There are three drivers, each built two ways. The Arc Audio ARC 12 has the lowest free-air resonance of the group at 22.8 Hz and the highest sensitivity at 89 dB, on a modest 350 W rating. The Alpine R2-W12D2 trades sensitivity (84.6 dB) for power and travel: 750 W and 20 mm of excursion. The Arc Audio Black Series 10 is the compact option, a 10 inch rated at 400 W that builds the shallowest cabinets here. All six are live on audiointensity.com and built to order in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Start with the summary for the quick answers, then use the side-by-side table for the full numbers: box dimensions, net volume, alignment, F3, power and price. Each row links to its product page. The three graphs show the same six boxes three ways: on their own, in the vehicle with cabin gain, and as estimated output with both drivers at rated power. Solid lines are the sealed wedges and dashed lines are the ported boxes, and each driver keeps one color across every chart.
Summary
Side by side
Response
dB relative to the passband, no cabin. Where each box rolls off on its own.
Anechoic plus cabin gain (45 Hz corner, 18 dB cap). Closer to what the Bronco's cargo area will do.
dB SPL at 1 m, both drivers at rated RMS, in-vehicle. Thermal estimate: ignores excursion and port compression.
How these numbers were made
Sealed boxes: closed-box response on the D2 coil at the built net volume per chamber. The D4 figure is in the table. Ported boxes: the Professional solver's own vented model for the pair in one shared chamber, the same curve the listings' F3 comes from, with no subsonic filter applied. Run the filter at the setting in the table.
Output assumes both drivers at their rated RMS and adds 6 dB for the pair over one driver at 1 W. The ARC 12 is rated at 350 W, the Black Series 10 at 400 W and the R2-W12 at 750 W, which is why the R2 catches up on output despite lower sensitivity. Real limits come from cone travel and port noise first, so treat the third chart as a ceiling.
Prices are the Black acrylic insert version for the sealed wedges; the None variant is $20 less.
