INSTALLER'S TAKE

Same fundamental install story as the A10 down-fire, scaled to 12". The 3.85" mounting depth keeps the motor out of conflict with the floor in a face-down build, and the 1.5" double baffle handles the pressure load directly behind the magnet correctly. At 29.5" wide and 6" tall this enclosure fits under the rear seat of most full-size crew cabs — measure from floor to seat cushion bottom before ordering, clearance varies by year and model.

The impedance selection at checkout matters. Dual 4-ohm wired parallel is 2 ohms — the safer choice for most amplifiers. Dual 2-ohm wired parallel is 1 ohm — your amplifier must be explicitly rated for 1-ohm operation. The A12 is a 300W RMS driver — do not exceed that rating chasing output. A clean 300W amplifier on this driver will outperform a clipping 600W amplifier every time.

The Proline X Single 12" Sealed Down-Fire System pairs the Arc Audio A12 12" shallow-mount subwoofer with a Proline X sealed down-fire enclosure built at our Tennessee facility. Net internal volume is 1.0 ft³ — the optimum sealed volume per Arc Audio's published specification for the A12. The down-fire orientation mounts the driver facing the floor, keeping the cone protected from physical contact and allowing the enclosure to sit flat in under-seat and trunk floor applications. The A12 ships pre-wired to your selected impedance — Dual 2-ohm (wired parallel to 1 ohm) or Dual 4-ohm (wired parallel to 2 ohms). Select your amplifier's target impedance at checkout.

Every panel is CNC-cut from 3/4" Langboard Elite MDF at our Tennessee facility — a mill-certified panel stock with a 200 psi internal bond rating, 410,000 psi modulus of elasticity, and 325 lb face screw holding strength. In a sealed enclosure, panel integrity is the entire acoustic story. The sealed air volume behind the driver controls cone motion — any flex or air leak at a joint directly corrupts that suspension. This box does not flex and does not leak.

Version III construction uses V-groove combined with dado joinery throughout, and the front baffle is 1.5" thick — two layers of 3/4" MDF laminated together. The A12's 3.85" mounting depth is a shallow-mount driver; the double baffle eliminates the flex point directly behind the driver where internal pressure concentrates during high-excursion playback. The terminal cup is built in-house at our Tennessee facility — ABS/Carbon Fiber Composite body, recessed mount, stainless steel hardware, aluminum landing plates, copper ring terminals, and 12g OFC speaker wire pre-installed. Nothing to source. Nothing to upgrade. It ships ready to wire.

The Arc Audio A12 is a shallow-mount 12" subwoofer engineered for installations where a full-depth 12" motor won't fit. At 3.85" mounting depth it installs in under-seat enclosures, trunk floor builds, and down-fire configurations where a standard-depth driver would conflict with the floor or seat. Like the A10, the A12 basket uses Arc Audio's multi-point geometric stress distribution design — the basket handles load equally regardless of mounting angle, which makes it structurally suited for face-down installation. Arc Audio's published optimum sealed volume for the A12 is 1.0 ft³ — that is exactly what this enclosure delivers. The published range is 0.85–1.25 ft³; building to the center of that range produces the flattest sealed response and the most controlled transient behavior. This is not a generic box the A12 happens to fit into — the internal volume was engineered to the spec.

The sealed alignment suits the A12's design intent. Arc Audio's A-Series is built for accurate, controlled bass in restricted spaces — linear response at moderate excursion, clean integration with a front stage, and consistent output at sustained listening levels. In a properly sized sealed enclosure, the A12 steps up output relative to the A10 while maintaining the same character: tight, fast bass that tracks the music rather than coloring it. This is the right choice for 12" SQ builds, daily drivers who need a flat profile, and any install where the enclosure needs to disappear physically.

For amplifier power, target 250–300W RMS at the wired impedance. Dual 4-ohm wired parallel = 2 ohm final load. Dual 2-ohm wired parallel = 1 ohm final load. Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF — 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure — because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.

Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

200 psi — The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures

The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually — the symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.

410,000 psi MOE — Less Flex, Less Resonance

The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness — resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level — not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.

Screw Holding

325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge — Joints That Stay Locked

Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint — where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.

The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification — it is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec.
