INSTALLER'S TAKE

The 13W7AE is a big driver — 13.5", 52 lbs, 32mm one-way Xmax, 1500W RMS. It needs an enclosure that can physically handle what it generates. This box is 32" × 16" × 17.75" external and comes in around 65 lbs. Plan the install accordingly — the 17.75" depth is the critical dimension to check against your available trunk or cargo space.

Net volume is 2.5 cu ft ported, tuned to 33Hz with 42.5 sq in of port area. The 33Hz tuning sits below the driver's Fs of 23.5Hz — chosen to prioritize low-frequency extension and output smoothness over a peaked SPL response. This is the right call for a driver with this Qts and Vas if the goal is SQ-oriented output rather than a single-note competition tune.

Baffle hardware is matched to the 13W7AE's twelve-point #10-32 bolt pattern. Threaded inserts through a 1.5" double-layer baffle — metal-to-metal, stays torqued. Terminal cup is pre-wired with 12g OFC. The 13W7AE wires to 3Ω series or 0.75Ω parallel — most installs will run series to 3Ω into a high-current 2–4Ω stable monoblock.

This is a dedicated trunk build. Customers need to confirm the 17.75" depth fits their vehicle before ordering.

The Enclosure the 13W7 Was Waiting For

The JL Audio 13W7AE is 52 lbs of motor, cone, and suspension engineering — a 13.5" driver with 32mm one-way Xmax and 1500 watts RMS that demands an enclosure built to match. This box is spec'd to 2.5 cu ft net, tuned to 33Hz with 42.5 sq in of port area, and built with the structural integrity to stay accurate under sustained high-power use. Enclosure only. Driver not included.

2.5 cu ft net
33Hz Port tuning
1.5" Double-layer baffle
1500W RMS rated

Built to the Driver's Numbers — Not a Generic Template

The 13W7AE has a Qts of 0.448 and an Fs of 23.5Hz — a driver that is fundamentally suited to ported alignment, where its low resonant frequency and moderate Q combine to produce deep, high-output bass with extended low-frequency reach. JL Audio's published ported recommendation is 2.375 cu ft. This enclosure delivers 2.5 cu ft net — close to spec with a small addition of breathing room appropriate for this driver's Vas of 3.68 cu ft — tuned to 33Hz to prioritize low-frequency extension and SQ-focused output character over peak SPL efficiency.

The 42.5 sq in port area is sized to move the air volume this driver displaces at Xmax without generating port noise at sustained high power. This is not a shelf-queen build — it is engineered to perform correctly under the load of 1500 watts RMS into a 13.5" driver with 32mm of one-way linear excursion.

1.5" Double-Layer Baffle — Twelve-Point Mounting System

The 13W7AE mounts via twelve bolt positions around its flange — a pattern JL Audio engineered specifically to distribute clamping force evenly across the largest mounting footprint in the W7 lineup. This enclosure's 1.5" double-layer baffle — two full sheets of Langboard Elite MDF bonded and CNC-cut as one unit — provides the rigidity and thread depth that twelve-point mounting demands. Threaded inserts are installed through the baffle matched to the 13W7AE's #10-32 bolt pattern. Metal-to-metal threading. No wood screw holes to strip. No mounting hardware to chase after a loud session.

Dado + V-Groove Joinery | Extensive Internal Bracing

At 32" wide and 17.75" deep, this is a large enclosure carrying a 52-lb driver at 1500 watts RMS. Panel integrity is not optional. Every joint is CNC-cut to interlock — dado joints recess each panel into its mating surface, V-groove cuts at panel edges create a mechanical lock — and extensive internal bracing ties opposing walls and spans panel runs across the full enclosure volume. The result is a cabinet that stays rigid and acoustically inert under sustained high-power output.

MDF

Langboard Elite 3/4"

Mill-certified panel stock. 48.5 lbs/ft³ density, 200 psi internal bond, 410,000 psi MOE. Every panel traceable to published mill data.

Joinery

Dado + V-Groove CNC

Panels interlock mechanically before adhesive is applied. The joint holds independent of glue — essential for an enclosure running 1500W RMS into a 13.5" driver.

Bracing

Extensive Internal Bracing

Wall-to-wall and panel-spanning bracing throughout. At this enclosure volume and power level, panel resonance is eliminated structurally — not managed after the fact.

Terminal

Proline X ABS/Carbon Fiber Terminal Cup

Built in-house. Stainless steel hardware. Copper ring terminals. Pre-wired 12-gauge OFC speaker wire — connect your amp and go.

Wiring Options — Dual 1.5Ω Voice Coils

The 13W7AE-D1.5 carries dual 1.5Ω voice coils — an uncommon impedance that requires deliberate amplifier matching.

Parallel wiring → 0.75Ω final load. Requires a stable 1Ω or lower amplifier. Not recommended for most amplifiers.

Series wiring → 3Ω final load. Closest to a standard 4Ω load — most amplifiers stable at 4Ω will handle 3Ω without issue.

The most common real-world configuration for the 13W7AE is series wiring to 3Ω, matched to a high-current monoblock rated at 2–4Ω. Verify your amplifier's stable impedance rating before selecting this driver.

Enclosure only. The JL Audio 13W7AE-D1.5 is not included. This enclosure is built for the 13W7AE exclusively — it is not a universal 13" or 15" box. Verify mounting depth (10.5") and cutout diameter (11.89") against your install before ordering.
2-Year Warranty

Every Proline X Professional Series enclosure is covered by a 2-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Built in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Shipping included — no freight charges at checkout.

JL Audio 13W7AE-D1.5 Subwoofer The JL Audio 13W7AE-D1.5 is the driver this enclosure was built around — a 13.5" subwoofer that represents the peak of JL Audio's W7 Anniversary Edition lineup. With 32mm of one-way linear Xmax, 1500 watts RMS power handling, and a motor structure refined through decades of engineering, the 13W7AE occupies a category few drivers can reach: genuinely high-output bass reproduction that doesn't sacrifice the tonal accuracy and transient speed that SQ-focused listeners demand. Its Qts of 0.448 and Fs of 23.5Hz make it a natural fit for ported alignment, where its low resonant frequency and moderate Q translate to deep, controlled output with real low-frequency extension. Built From a Spec Sheet, Not a Sales Sheet

Every Proline X Performance Series enclosure is CNC-cut from Langboard Elite MDF — 3/4" (18mm) panels produced to published mill specifications. Most enclosure manufacturers source generic MDF without published data. We can tell you the internal bond rating, the modulus of elasticity, the modulus of rupture, and the face and edge screw holding strength for every panel in this enclosure — because we chose the material based on those numbers, not on price or availability.

Langboard Elite is produced in the United States. The specifications below are pulled directly from Langboard's published mill data and are verifiable. This is the same panel stock used in our full Proline X lineup.

Specifications

Langboard Elite MDF — Published Mill Data

Property Value Why It Matters
Panel Stock Langboard Elite MDF Named, verifiable panel source — not generic "high-density MDF"
Thickness 3/4" (18mm) Industry standard for subwoofer enclosures; panels below this flex under pressure
Density 48.5 lbs/ft³ Higher density = less porosity, better screw retention, reduced resonance
Internal Bond 200 psi Measures resistance to delamination under sustained internal pressure — the most enclosure-relevant spec on this sheet
Modulus of Rupture (MOR) 4,200 psi Bending strength before the panel breaks — relevant for larger unsupported baffle spans
Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) 410,000 psi Stiffness under load; higher MOE means less panel flex under bass pressure, less resonance
Face Screw Holding 325 lbs How firmly the panel surface holds a screw; critical for baffle joint integrity over time
Edge Screw Holding 250 lbs Panel edge retention — relevant for every joint that isn't face-to-face
Internal Bond

200 psi — The Number That Actually Matters for Enclosures

The internal bond rating measures how well the MDF panel resists delamination under sustained pressure applied perpendicular to the face. In a subwoofer enclosure, every bass transient generates a pressure pulse that pushes outward on every panel simultaneously. A panel that begins to delaminate internally loses stiffness gradually — the symptoms are slow: a box that starts to sound softer, less defined, less punchy over months of use. 200 psi internal bond is the spec that determines how long this enclosure holds its acoustic integrity under daily use at real power levels.

Stiffness

410,000 psi MOE — Less Flex, Less Resonance

The modulus of elasticity measures panel stiffness — resistance to bending under load. A stiffer panel flexes less under the pressure generated by a high-excursion driver at volume. Panel flex is a source of acoustic coloration: the panel itself begins to radiate sound at its own resonant frequency, adding distortion to the output. 410,000 psi stiffness combined with V-groove and dado joinery means the panels stay rigid and the bracing controls resonance at the structure level — not the panel level. The bass you hear comes from the driver, not the box.

Screw Holding

325 lb Face / 250 lb Edge — Joints That Stay Locked

Screw holding strength determines how firmly the panel grips a fastener at the face and at the edge. This matters most at the baffle joint — where the front panel meets the side panels and where the driver is mounted. A panel with low screw holding strength allows fasteners to loosen over time under vibration, leading to air gaps at the joint and loss of acoustic seal. 325 lb face screw holding strength means the baffle hardware stays put. Combined with dado joinery and adhesive, the front panel on a Proline X Performance Series enclosure is not going anywhere.

Sourcing

Named Panel Stock — Not "Premium MDF"

The phrase "premium MDF" or "high-density MDF" appears on marketing copy for enclosures across every price point, from $40 to $400. It is not a specification — it is a description with no defined standard. Langboard Elite is a named, sourced, mill-documented product with published data. We name it in our copy because naming it holds us accountable to the spec. You can look up Langboard Elite independently, verify the numbers on this page, and confirm you are getting what we say you are getting. That is the point.

Why Proline X?

Most enclosures are built to a price point. Proline X is built to a spec. Every box starts with published-data MDF, gets CNC-cut to exact internal volume, and is assembled by hand in our Tennessee facility. The difference shows up in the measurements — and in how the box holds up two years into daily use.
