Spare Tire Subwoofers

Spare tire subwoofers fit directly into the spare wheel well in your trunk, reclaiming space that would otherwise sit empty. The driver mounts into a purpose-built enclosure sized to the well, and the whole system stays below the trunk floor — no box taking up cargo space, no visible installation. For sedans, hatchbacks, and SUVs where trunk space matters, it's the most practical way to add a dedicated subwoofer to the system. Questions about fitment for your vehicle? How Spare Tire Subwoofers Work

The Installation Concept

The spare wheel well in most sedans, hatchbacks, and SUVs sits below the trunk floor and goes unused unless you have a flat. A spare tire subwoofer replaces or sits inside that space with a purpose-built enclosure and driver. Once installed, the trunk mat lays flat over it — the installation is completely hidden and the cargo area stays fully usable.

Powered vs. Passive

Most spare tire subwoofers are powered — the amplifier is built into the unit, which simplifies wiring and eliminates the need to find a separate mounting location for an external amp. Passive options exist for builders who want to match their own amplifier, but for most applications the powered all-in-one format is the cleaner install.

What to Check Before Buying

Measure Your Well First

Fitment is the only variable that matters before anything else. Measure the inner diameter of your spare wheel and the depth of the well from the floor to the underside of the trunk mat. The subwoofer needs to sit below the trunk floor level — if it doesn't fit flat, the trunk mat won't close correctly. Confirm both dimensions against the product specs before ordering.

Spare Tire Access

If you get a flat, you'll need to remove the subwoofer to access the spare. Most powered units are held in place with a single retaining bolt and use quick-disconnect wiring — removal takes a few minutes. Factor this into your decision if you drive in conditions where a flat is a realistic scenario.

Signal Input

Powered spare tire subs accept either RCA line-level input from an aftermarket head unit or high-level speaker input for factory radio integration. Confirm which input your head unit supports before wiring.
