Arc Audio SW Series Subwoofers
More cone area, more output, 0.225 inches deeper than the SW10. The SW12 brings a 3 inch voice coil, 15.5mm of one-way linear Xmax, and a 0.8 cubic foot sealed enclosure recommendation to the same front-mounted N42UH neodymium motor architecture as the SW10. The flagship of the Arc Audio SW Series.
The Arc Audio SW10 and SW12 share the same front-mounted N42UH neodymium motor architecture, CNC-machined vented iron motor cap, stage-baked tempered aluminum voice coil, reinforced cellulose fiber raised-cup cone, low-shore butyl surround, Nomex/cotton spider, and spring-loaded terminals. The SW12 steps up in four measurable ways: a larger 12 inch cone with more piston area, a 3 inch voice coil versus 2.5 inch on the SW10, 15.5mm of one-way Xmax versus 14.7mm, and an optimum sealed volume of 0.8 cubic feet versus 0.6 cubic feet. The mounting depth increases by 0.225 inches to 2.625 inches. Choose the SW10 when the available depth is under 2.625 inches or the enclosure footprint limits you to under 0.8 cubic feet. Choose the SW12 when the space allows and you want the larger cone area and higher excursion capability.
The SW12 uses the same front-mounted motor design as the SW10. The N42UH neodymium motor sits at the front of the driver and is positioned outside the enclosure once installed, exposed to open air rather than confined inside a sealed cavity. Arc Audio developed the CNC-machined vented iron motor cap specifically for front-loaded enclosure environments: under-seat truck systems, down-fire enclosures, seat-back loaded designs, and stealth installations where the motor faces the loading surface directly in front of the driver. The vented motor cap geometry manages the acoustic relationship between the motor structure and the nearby surface, which Arc Audio identifies as a primary variable in shallow-mount performance consistency.
The 3 inch voice coil diameter on the SW12 provides more conductor length in the magnetic gap than the 2.5 inch coil on the SW10, producing more motor force per unit current and more thermal surface area for heat dissipation. The aluminum former conducts heat from the winding into the vented external motor structure more efficiently than Nomex or Kapton formers at equivalent wall thickness. Stage-baked tempering pre-cures all adhesives and drives off moisture before assembly, ensuring the voice coil maintains full structural integrity under sustained high-power use at 2.625 inches of total mounting depth.
The SW12's 15.5mm one-way linear Xmax exceeds the 15.2mm Xmax of the JL Audio 12TW3-D4, which mounts at 3.5 inches of depth. At 2.625 inches, the SW12 delivers more measured excursion than a driver that requires 0.875 inches more depth. This reflects the raised-cup cone profile and the front-motor geometry working together to allow greater excursion within a shorter overall driver stack. The cellulose fiber cone with hydrophobic composite coating and the low-shore butyl surround provide the compliance and mechanical stability that support this excursion at real-world power levels.
Arc Audio optimized the SW12 for front-loaded cavity applications where the motor faces the loading surface. The CNC-machined vented iron motor cap is a functional part of this design, not just a structural component: it shapes the air movement between the motor structure and the nearby baffle surface, influencing the acoustic loading the driver sees from the front cavity. In a conventional under-seat sealed enclosure where the driver fires downward through the enclosure floor or frontward through a close-coupled baffle, the SW12's motor geometry is doing specific acoustic work that a standard rear-motor design in the same enclosure would not replicate.
Fitment note: The SW12 is designed for front-loaded enclosure applications at 2.625 inches of mounting depth with a 0.8 cubic foot sealed enclosure recommendation. Full cutout diameter, overall diameter, power handling, and complete enclosure range are pending Arc Audio's official spec sheet release. Contact Audio Intensity to confirm fitment for your specific installation.
