710g carries an 8.250 inch mounting depth and a 26.0 mm Xmax on a 10.625 inch frame, and this Professional cabinet gives it 2.943 cubic feet net, vented at 32.5 Hz through a 53.1 square inch port. F3 lands at 27.6 Hz with 5.70 dB of passband ripple in the 30.0 by 14.0 by 24.0 inch enclosure.

Threaded insert kit ships with this box. DD Audio does not publish the mounting hole locations for the 710g, so we cannot install the threaded inserts before it ships. The threaded insert kit comes in the box instead: 8 to 12 inserts sized to the woofer, the correct drill bit, 2.5 inch allen-head screws, an allen key and woofer gasket tape. You set the inserts when you mount the woofer; one kit serves one woofer.

DD publishes a Qts of 0.333 for the 710g, and computing it from their own Qes of 0.364 and Qms of 3.909 reproduces that figure exactly, so the driver's own numbers agree with each other. DD publish no vented recommendation for the 710g, so the 2.943 cubic foot net alignment and 32.5 Hz tuning come from our own solver working Fs, Qts and Vas against the coil's 1800 W rating. At 2160 W, 1.2 times that rating, the port mouth runs 16.6 m/s, closing in on the point where a slot starts to chuff; the margin here is narrow.

What makes it Professional

Three-layer baffle, flush mount

Three layers of 3/4 inch Langboard Elite make a 2.25 inch
front. The channel runs 16.00 inches along its wall and turns once along the back wall for another 10.75 inches, which is why a 32.5 Hz tuning fits a 24.00 inch deep box.

Why this is a Professional build

Every driver is run through the Performance Optimized wedge and down-fire before this chassis; the Professional box is where a driver lands when that smaller envelope, 30 inches wide and 18 inches deep with a triangular side port, cannot give it what it needs at its rated power. The 710g did not clear the port gate there. The calmest wedge port that fits that envelope is 18.4 square inches at 23.5 by 12.00 by 16.91 inches, and its mouth runs 29.1 metres per second at 1800 W against the 17 metres per second line where a port starts to chuff. That port would stay clean to about 614 W. The slot on this box reaches 53.1 square inches and holds the mouth at 16.6 metres per second at 2160 W.

What the price covers

Every Professional cabinet is priced the same way, by its size: this one is 5.83 cubic feet outside. Delivery to the 48 states is inside the price; it ships as a 65 lb parcel and checkout adds nothing. The Performance Optimized 10 inch ported wedge is $369.99. The $221 difference is the larger box and the port this driver needs to run at its rating.

The cabinet

30.00" W x 14.00" H x 24.00" D external. Two windowed braces run front to back either side of the woofer, clearing the cutout by two and a half inches. The box ships dry: polyfill detunes a ported alignment. This is our tallest single-ten Professional envelope, built around the 710g's 10.625 inch frame and 8.250 inch mounting depth. You source the driver. We handle the box. It ships as a parcel.

The port mouth on this build runs 16.6 m/s at 1.2 times the coil's rated power, close enough to the chuff point that this counts as a marginal design rather than one with headroom to spare. DD does not publish a Bl figure for the 710g, so the motor's force factor cannot be checked against Sd or Xmax independently. DD also publishes no Sd for this driver; the 366.1 cm2 figure used here is derived from their published piston diameter (Sd = pi times the radius squared), and no Mms, Cms, Re, or Xmax basis (geometric or 70 percent BL) is published either. DD Audio does not publish the mounting hole locations for the 710g, so the threaded inserts cannot be pressed into the baffle before it ships; the threaded insert kit ships in the box instead. DD sells the 710g in D2 and D4. The D2 is two 2 ohm coils, 4 ohms in series or 1 ohm in parallel; the D4 is two 4 ohm coils, 8 ohms in series or 2 ohms in parallel. A 1 ohm parallel load needs an amplifier rated for it. DD publishes one Thiele-Small block for the model rather than a set per coil, so the cabinet is the same either way, and DD publishes no DC resistance at all. DD sells the 710g in D2 and D4.
