Hybrid Audio Clarus C10SW Subwoofer
The The Hybrid Audio Clarus C10SW subwoofers are the ideal multi-format subwoofer speaker system, and are an upgrade for the Imagine-series subwoofer drivers. subwoofers are the ideal multi-format subwoofer speaker system, and are an upgrade for the Imagine-series subwoofer drivers. At home in virtually any enclosure arrangement – from sealed, to vented, to infinite baffle and bandpass – the Clarus range of subwoofers are going to impress even the most critical listener with speed and articulation, bottom-octave authority, with a total inductance profile that is not just low, but flat over stroke, frequency, and power. You’ll know how serious this driver is at first glance as you take in the cast frame and heavy-duty nickel-plated spring-loaded push terminals, but its proof will be upon first listen as the Clarus subwoofer does what it does best: articulating the nuances of your favorite recordings to effectively reproducing significant sound pressure levels.
Basket/Frame - The basket of the Hybrid Audio Clarus C10SW is a cast aluminum design with semi-gloss black powder coating. The frame includes spider venting for improved thermal power handling. The frame includes reverse-roll surround tooling proprietary to Hybrid Audio Technologies, allowing for close tolerance flush and iso-mounting for easy grille clearance and localization clearance.
Motor and Voice Coil - The motor of the Hybrid Audio Clarus C10SW Subwoofer is conventional dynamic with a large, high-grade ferrite magnet assembly with bumped and vented pole piece. The voice coil diameter for the four subwoofers is 51mm (2-inch) for elevated power handling, dissipation of heat (thereby lowering power compression), and maximizing the size of the magnet around the voice coil for enhanced motor compliance. The voice coil is a four-layer, high-purity aluminum, which is superior to copper for heat dissipation, as well as significantly reduced moving mass. The result is an extremely light weight winding, with low inductance and good power handling.
Suspension, Cone, Tinsel Leads & Terminals - The inverted surround is butyl rubber which is highly consistent, and does not suffer the variance of natural rubbers. This rubber surround terminates mechanical vibrations well, having a low stiffness for positive damping of resonances. The spider material was chosen for optimal performance; the spider is a 90/10 cotton/Nomex blend with single-dip low viscosity phenolic. This material provides the stiffness desired without being overly brittle or stiff, where vibrations in the spider are well damped and do not translate into the former or the cone. The Clarus subwoofers are cone-type drivers consisting of a polypropylene diaphragm with low moving mass. Polypropylene provides a good balance of strength, moving mass, and water resistance, in the event the Clarus subwoofers are used in all-weather climates, such as motorcycle, ATV, golf cart, and marine uses. The tinsel leads are bonded directly to the former and brought out to the terminals, which keeps tinsel lead slap to a minimum and does not compromise the structural integrity of the cone. The Clarus subwoofers come equipped with heavy-duty PCB-mounted nickel-plated push terminals, and give the end user flexibility in tinned wire or crimp terminal terminations

Hybrid Audio Clarus C51-2 5 1/4" Component Set
The Hybrid Audio Clarus C51-2v2 is part of Hybrid Audio Technology’s “Stage IV” offering, an option that has received the praises of the mass media and users worldwide. All design cues for the Clarus series were taken from the Stage V Legatia series. Hybrid Audio Clarus C51-2v2 kit was reviewed by Car Audio & Electronics Magazine as one of the finest component sets ever tested, at any cost, in the past twenty years of the magazine’s review of car audio products.
Each Hybrid Audio Clarus C51-2v2 kit contains a pair of 5 1/4" midbass drivers, a pair of Clarus C1 20mm soft-dome tweeters, Clarus competition-grade crossovers with nickel-plated spring- loaded terminals (suitable for display), tweeter hardware with several tweeter mounting options, connection wire, grilles, and gift box. The Hybrid Audio Clarus C51-2v2 systems are a good “step up” in performance from the Unity series, boasting higher grade materials, increased midbass authority, higher power handling, and elevated tonal and spectral balance performance.
Hybrid Audio Clarus C51-2v2 Attributes:
Hybrid Audio Clarus C51-2v2 frame is Cast aluminum with black powder-texture surface coating. The basket is a high-quality cast aluminum design, which plays a critical role in aligning the voice coil in the magnetic circuit. Additionally, the cast aluminum frame allows for better clamping strength verses typical stamped steel frames, and ensures that the voice coil remains centered in the former. The black coating on the frame protects it from abrasion and oxidation. The frames are similar in size and format to the Mirus, Imagine, and Clarus-series drivers, allowing for upgrade potential from these product lines to the Clarus series.
Hybrid Audio Clarus C51-2v2 Cone and Dust Cap: Pressed paper, untreated on the front side and treated on the rearward side. It is widely acknowledged that pressed paper cones are the best marriage of lightness, stiffness, and ability of the cone to damp unwanted cone and edge modes and resonances (read: distortion). The damping afforded by the paper cone ensures the midbass speakers can play lower treble frequencies effortlessly, without significant cone “breakup.” Our approach to “point-source imaging” is to rely on the midbass driver to effectively reproduce the lower treble frequencies, where the human vocal range extends, as well as other imaging-critical musical instruments, ensuring phase-coherent imaging and stable, lifelike staging character. The paper cone, known for its excellent sonic attributes, is water resistant, thanks to a polymer developed exclusive and proprietary by Hybrid Audio Technologies. The treatment does not change the look and parameters of the driver like old-fashioned “glossy” polymers which added an appreciable amount of moving mass and significantly colored the sound. No, the Clarus cones look like any “normal” paper cone. The treatment protects the cone from periodic drips (such as inside a door panel), as well as accidental splashes to the front of the cone. The dust-cap covers the voice coil to keep dirt and debris from fouling the voice coil gap. Since high frequency information emanates from the center of the cone, a paper dust-cap was utilized in concert with the pressed paper cone diaphragm to ensure that the speaker’s response remained linear into the lower- to mid-treble frequencies. Surround Inverted high-loss rubber surround. The inverted high-loss rubber surround (in concert with the spider, detailed below), helps to provide the compliance and “restorative force” needed for the Clarus drivers to play effectively into the lower midbass, and even upper sub-bass frequencies (depending on in-car cabin gain and other factors). You’ll also know a Hybrid Audio midrange and midbass design by its inverted surround; this design feature allows for the use of a smaller height grille, better clearance with OEM panels, and more flexibility in mounting options. The surround is a shared technology with the Imagine series coaxial and convertible component sets.
Hybrid Audio Clarus C51-2v2 Spider: Phenolic fabric and tinned tinsel leads. The spider is the brownish/yellow corrugated (rippled) fabric that attaches the cone and voice coil. The spider for the Clarus designs was the subject of a considerable amount of our research and development. The spider is a phenolic symmetrically-rolled fabric which provides excellent restorative force during excursion, and the woven tinsel leads, often not found in speakers in this price range, are an asset to the Clarus line because the leads are protected from physical damage and accidental short circuit. The tinsel leads are connected to real epoxy PCB, not flimsy cardboard.
Hybrid Audio Clarus C51-2v2 Voice Coil and Motor System: 1” (25mm) (C5) and 1.4” (35mm) (C6): complimentary design. The voice coil used in the Clarus midbass is a 2-layer aluminized copper wire coils on a round former. An “overhung” voice coil was selected to improve sensitivity while still keeping distortion to a minimum. The motor system utilizes a ferrite magnet with rubber protective boot (which can be removed to improve mounting depth), complimented by design with a back plate and rear venting chamber to improve the speaker’s thermal power handling and improved ability of the midbass to play at high amplitudes.

Hybrid Audio Legatia L1Pro tweeter
The Hybrid Audio Legatia L1Pro’s topology is an enhanced “low resonance” version of the massively successful Legatia L1V2. The purpose of the L1 Pro topology was to build upon the success and efficacy of the Stage V Legatia L1V2, but offer it in a package with considerably lower resonance frequency for potential use in two-way applications, or where a tweeter with low resonance was needed. The L1 Pro was launched in February 2008, and was the first product developed and released in the Legatia Special Edition and Pro Series. In the years since its inception, the L1 Pro has been used successfully in organized car audio sound quality competition, notably including two-time Canadian and IASCA North American championshipcompetitor John “Fozz” Myers’ vehicle. The Legatia SE L1 Pro is the reference soft-dome tweeter driver in Hybrid Audio’s product category known collectively as the Legatia SE Series.
The Hybrid Audio Legatia L1Pro tweeter is an excellent step-up in performance over the Legatia L1V2 tweeter driver offered in the Stage V Legatia series, and is the bench-mark low-resonance soft-dome tweeter in Hybrid Audio’s complete product offering. Equally at home in two-way configuration paired with a midrange or midbass, or as the dedicated tweeter transducer in a three-way application, the Legatia SE L1 Pro is an exemplary performer, and is eclipsed in performance by only the Stage VI Legatia SE L1 Pro Ring Radiator (R2) tweeter.
Hybrid Audio Legatia L1v2 Tweeter
The Hybrid Audio Legatia L1v2 is a compact, high-resolution 20mm (3/4-inch) dome-type tweeter which has a very good, extended linear response and exceptional transient response, and can be used for the reproduction of treble frequencies in dedicated two-, three-, and four-way front stage systems. We are proud to be one of the very few speaker manufacturers that understand what it takes to build a car audio tweeter: larger diaphragm tweeters sound heavy and unremarkable, lack detail and have unnaturally fast rolloff in the upper treble frequencies, have undesirable polar response, and are extremely difficult to install. Additionally, metal dome tweeters tend to be harsh, brittle, and add unnecessary coloration to the music. This is why we have built the quintessential small-diameter car audio tweeter that is very easy to install, boasts a small diameter soft-dome silk diaphragm and resonance frequency that is complementary to all types of front-stage system architecture. The L1V2 can be listened to for hours without listener’s fatigue, while having an industry-standard polar response. The design offers a wide dispersion pattern for flexible mounting locations and easy installation. And the phase linearity of the design ensures phase coherent imaging and staging cues in the car audiophile system. Tweeters were meant to play treble, and ours does it effortlessly, in a package that fits easily in the palm of your hand. The L1V2 is available in two finishes: brushed (natural) aluminum and anodized black.
The L1V2 starts with an impregnated fine silk cloth dome diaphragm for a linear tonal character, with a treated silk surround to damp edge modes and resonances. The Hybrid Audio Legatia L1v2 is efficient, exhibits low distortion, and has a wide dispersion. The dome is of extremely low mass and is much less susceptible to mechanical deformation than other designs, and yet yields a smooth response over the extent of its range. Motor The motor assembly of the L1V2 is conventional dynamic, with a φ19.5 × 3 H NdFeB neodymium magnet to ensure a small footprint size and shallow depth. The L1V2 tweeter has a resonance frequency of 1,830 Hz, providing a considerable amount of flexibility for use with Legatia widebandwidth midbass drivers in point-source two-way front stage systems, as well as continuing to be the tweeter of choice of point-source Hybrid Audio Technologies three-way and four-way front stage kits. The power handling was doubled from the original L1 tweeter, and the L1V2 has a nominal resistance of 4 ohms. Grille As mentioned previously, the dome is a fine silk diaphragm that has an acoustically transparent, perforated steel grille to protect it. A major upgrade over the original L1 is a fully-machined aluminum body and mounting flange to effectively damp dome and edge modes, reduce dome resonance, and edge distortion. The mounting flange accommodates three screws for surface-mounted installation; black anodized Alan-head screws are included with each tweeter kit. The L1V2 tweeter comes in two colors to ensure cosmetic integration with the vehicle’s surroundings: natural (silver) aluminum, and anodized black (there is no cost difference between the two colors). Terminals Cap and Spring-Loaded Terminals Another upgrade over the original L1 tweeter is the inclusion of an extruded polypropylene cap with integrated high-end nickel-plated spring-loaded push terminals at the rear of the tweeter’s motor assembly. The spring-loaded terminals give the end-user flexibility in direct connection with largegauge tinned wiring, without the need for crimp terminals. The overall dimensions of the driver are very amenable for use in the car audio environment, boasting a depth of just 20mm, for the ultimate in mounting flexibility.
